The museum, located at Irmisch Historical Park, on South Broadway between Kent Avenue and South Third Street, is open Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays, 2:00PM – 4:00PM, through October 29, 2022. Admission is free, and all are welcome to come and learn about this unique part of our Lindenhurst and Long Island history. Come and see the old ticket agents’ office, the black, cast iron stove, which provided the only heat, old railroad photographs and artifacts, and discover the legend of “Mile-A-Minute Murphy”. The Town of Babylon Industrial Development Agency (IDA) recently held a fundraising auction at the Belfast Gastro Pub in Lindenhurst to Support Ukraine’s Refugees. The fundraiser was the culmination of a two month fundraising effort by the IDA and the Babylon business community. The IDA is continuing to collect donations for this cause, and the total raised so far is $50,470.00. The money will be presented to the Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church in Lindenhurst, which will distribute it to refugee assistance groups in Poland and other
Before the April 12th, 2022, General Meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature, a small ceremony was held to recognize the winners of the Annual Bicycle Safety Poster/Video Contest for Suffolk County Schools. The contest, established in 2021, serves as a public education campaign to spread awareness and educate youth on the importance of bicycle safety to reduce the potential for serious accidents. “It gives me great pleasure to announce a winner of the Bicycle Safety Program Poster Contest from the 14th Legislative District” said Presiding Officer McCaffrey as he introduced Isabel Focarile, a second grader
at Babylon Grade School, and her parents to the Suffolk County Legislature as the 2nd Place Winner of the Bicycle Safety Poster contest. “Isabel’s artwork stood above that of other countywide contest participants and shows her understanding of the dangers faced by all bicycle riders here in Suffolk County, young and old. Her work reinforces Suffolk County’s public education campaign to increase awareness and demonstrates bicycle safety very well. It is important that our art teachers participate in these contests to help bring the message of bicycle safety to our elementary school children. I would like to thank Ms. Elizabeth
Losito who, each year has a number of students participating in the program and learning the important message behind the posters. to advise pet owners as to all potential side effects of prescribed medications. With the passage of Bouy’s Law we are making this a legal requirement so that more informed decisions can be made and potential tragedies averted.” All for the love of a dog… In 2013, Mary Kate Tischler and her late husband Jimmy took their beloved 3 year old Yellow Labrador Retriever, Bouy, to have
routine knee surgery after which he was prescribed a painkiller to aid his recovery. Unbeknownst the Tischlers, the drug was known to have serious side-effects on some dogs and because they had not been given any prior warning from the veterinarian, they began to administer the drug as per his instructions. As a result, Bouy began to suffer acute kidney failure

Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk www.eoc-suffolk.com The primary mission of the Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk (EOC of Suffolk), is to promote selfsufficiency among low-income families and individuals. Most of their programming is devoted to revitalizing communities, broadening the minds of children and assisting families in need.
As defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “developmental disabilities” are a group of conditions arising from an impairment in physical, learning, language, or behavior areas. These conditions typically begin during a young child’s developmental period, may impact day-to-day functioning, and usually last throughout a person’s lifetime. EOC of Suffolk offers a comprehensive array of services for people with developmental disabilities aimed at enhancing their quality of life. Its specially trained staff will customize a program to help maximize each person’s ability to live with independence and self-sufficiency. In addition, personalized case management helps to ensure that individuals receive the government benefits to which they are eligible. The overall offering has six components: Community Habilitation Services: Under this program, EOC of Suffolk provides individuals with support and services that focus on developing life skills and community integration.
Respite Services: EOC of Suffolk provides temporary relief from the demands of caregiving, helping to reduce overall family stress. The program helps families provide uninterrupted care for their loved one with a developmental disability. Respite/Recreation: This service component provides educational, occupational and recreational activities, as well as opportunities to increase socialization skills. Services take place on-site as well as on field trips to help enrich the learning process. Self-Directed and Fiscal Intermediary Services: This program empowers individuals to exercise the maximum amount of control over the types of support and services they wish to receive. They also have a voice in the selection of providers and in how services are provided. Working with employers and funding agencies, people with developmental disabilities can engage as full citizens in communities of their choosing. EOC of Suffolk can also arrange for the services of a Fiscal Intermediary for individuals who have chosen self-direction – supplemented by administrative and billing support. Lindenhurst UFSD Hosts Successful Dual-Language Family Night The Lindenhurst Union Free School District held a successful dual-language family event on April 26 at Albany Avenue Elementary School. There were more than 120 participants from the K-2 program and parents continued to be very supportive of the programs’ growth.
Students and their families participated in three spring themed stations, including a Yoga at which students learned different poses and techniques; a planting station where they were able to decorate a pot and plant a small seedling and a craft station where they
made their own bug jar and bug mask. The Lindenhurst Public Library was in attendance and students ended the night with some educational games that were raffled off while everyone enjoyed light refreshments and snacks.
VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION FAIR - The Lindenhurst Knights of Columbus recently teamed up with the Lindenhurst Memorial Library and Sand City South to host a fair showcasing the tremendous work of volunteer organizations throughout the Village of Lindenhurst! Nearly two dozen organizations came out to share their mission, DUAL-LANGUAGE FAMILY NIGHT - The Lindenhurst Union Free School network, and recruit new members! Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey, a District held a successful dual-language family event on April 26 at Albany Avenue member of the Lindenhurst Knights and former Village Trustee, stopped by the event Elementary School. On Sunday, May 1, 2022, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Knights of Columbus Council #794 took part in the Village of Lindenhurst’s SpringFest chaired by the Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce. It was an incredible turnout of people from all around the Town of Babylon, and beyond. The Knights raised over $3,000 for St. Jude’s Research Foundation and all net proceeds will be donated to their important mission. “We are so touched by the generosity of the Lindenhurst community
in supporting yet another of our fundraisers,” said Grand Knight Stephen Strigaro. “Throughout this Columbian Year, our fundraising has hit new milestones for all the different causes we support, and we know our friends and neighbors continue to see our work as a charitable beacon.” The Knights next fundraiser will be at the “OLPH Market,” chaired by Darlene Perez Fantel, will be on Sunday, June 12th from 2:00 – 7:00 pm in the school parking lot off High Street.
