Their mission is founded in the spirit of St. Louis de Montfort, who had a commitment to the poor and the courage to do what no one else had the courage to do. They have accomplished much over the 40+ years they have been helping others with minimal financial assistance from federal, state or county agencies. They depend on the generosity of private contributions, fundraising events and corporate donations. Hope House Ministries services people in both Nassau County and Suffolk County, offering services free of charge. Together, their staff and volunteers have created an empowering sense of family and community that are the change agents, helping young people grow in self-discipline, critical thinking, problem solving skills and personal responsibility. Hope House Ministries was founded by Fr. Francis Pizzarelli, SMM, LCSW-R, ACSW, DCSW. 41 years ago, Fr. Francis discovered hundreds of youth who were homeless, experiencing mental health issues and living with addictions and it wasn’t long before he realized that neither government nor faith communities were doing enough to meet the crisis of homelessness. He formed Hope House Ministries and it has grown into an amazing organization that has provided for the needs of over 500,000 individuals. Hope House Ministries offers

The Board of Trustees has determined that it is necessary to regulate the distribution and sale of food vendors who operate on a temporary basis at a fixed location that are not otherwise regulated by Chapter 129. Issuance of a permit for persons or organizations engaged in the above-mentioned activities is required for the protection and

maintenance of the health, safety and welfare of the inhabitants of the Village. The Board of Trustees finds that this new section is reasonably aimed at achieving this goal and that the governance of the Village will be enhanced by enactment of the regulations set forth in this section.

§174-2. Definitions. When used in this Article, the following shall mean: EVENT A single event or activity where food or food samples are distributed to the public, with or without charge, that operates for a period of time not to exceed three (3) consecutive days and not more than twelve (12) days in any particular month. Such event shall be scheduled to occur at a single specified location, where access is controlled by the event’s sponsor, and may be held indoors or outdoors, in public or privately owned or leased premises, and shall include but not be limited to: (1) A street activity, regardless of whether the event requires a permit issued in accordance with the rules of the Village; (2) A business, advertising or media promotion or convention; (3) A celebration; a street or other fair; or (4) A sporting event, carnival, flea market, circus, public exhibition, festival, religious or fraternal organization function, parade or other similar gathering. No permit may exceed a period of one (1) year. The strict application of these conditions may be waived by approval of the Village Board in the case of exceptional circumstances. OPERATOR The permittee or person who owns, operates, manages, controls or is otherwise in charge of a temporary food service establishment providing food services at an event, and who has been issued a permit by the Village Administrator or his designee. SPONSOR The person or organization that organizes, controls and manages the event at which a temporary food service establishment provides food service. TEMPORARY FOOD SERVICE ESTABLISHMENT An individual food service establishment operating from a booth, stand, vehicle, or cart, in a fixed public or private, indoor or outdoor location, at an event, where foods are stored, prepared or held for service to the public. A temporary food service establishment shall also

It shall be necessary for any individual or organization that wishes to operate as a temporary food establishment to acquire a permit from the Village Administrator or his designee approved by resolution of the Village Board. §174-4. Permit Application. A. Applicants for a license under this chapter shall file an application with the Village Clerk in the form of a sworn affidavit, in duplicate, on a form to be supplied by the Village Clerk, which application shall furnish the following information: (1) The name, address and telephone number of the applicant. (2) The applicant’s place of residence for the past five years. (3) The applicant’s business or employer for the past five years. (4) Two full-face photographs of the applicant taken within 30 days of application and measuring 1 1/2 inches by 1 1/2 inches. (5) Whether or not the applicant has ever been convicted of a felony, misdemeanor or violation of any municipal ordinance, except traffic violations, and, if so, the date, court, ordinance and sentence of the court. (6) Whether the applicant has been previously licensed in any occupation and, if so, when, where and for what period and, if such previous license was ever revoked, the date of revocation and the reason therefor. (7) The name and address of the person, firm or corporation the applicant represents or is employed by. (8) The manner of conveyance said business or occupation conducted.

(13) Proof that the applicant holds a New York State sales tax identification number. (14) In the event that any other license or permit shall be required by any other governmental agency in connection with the applicant’s business, the same shall be produced by the applicant, and the Village Clerk shall duly note the same. (15) Any additional information as the Village Clerk shall deem necessary for the purpose of administering the provisions of this chapter. (16) Proof of insurance for a minimum sum of $100,000 for personal injury and property damage suffered by any person as a result of the peddler’s doing business pursuant to a license issued under this chapter. §174-5. Standard of Review. On all applications to the Village Administrator for permits in addition to other specific requirements, the Village Administrator or his designee shall consider the health, safety, convenience and general welfare of the Village. The standards to be considered by the Village Administrator or his designee in making its determination of any matter under this chapter are whether the granting of the permit will be in harmony with the general purpose and intent of the chapter, in accordance with the comprehensive plan and design set forth in the chapter, to lessen congestion in the streets, to secure safety from fire, panic and other dangers, circumstances of the applicant to provide adequate light and air, to prevent the overcrowding of land, to avoid undue concentration of population, to facilitate the adequate provision of transportation, water, sewage, off-street parking, parks and other public requirements; and in accordance with reasonable

consideration, among other things, as to the character of the district and its peculiar suitability for the particular use; and with a view to conserving the value of buildings and land and encouraging the most appropriate use of land throughout the municipality. Any issued permit is subject to revocation by the Village Administrator or his designee, and any requested permit may be denied in the event it is determined the use is the subject of legitimate concerns for the public’s health, safety and general well-being. Any permanent revocation or the denial of any permit shall be subject to appeal by the applicant to the Village Board with an opportunity for the applicant to be heard at a public meeting of the Board of Trustees.

Apart from birthdays, primary female caregivers may not always get the recognition they deserve, nor be entitled to a day to kick back and relax and let others take the helm. National Nurses Week National Nurses Week is celebrated each year in the United States. The American Nurses Association notes that the week begins each year on May 6 and ends on May 12, which coincides with International Nurses Day, a global celebration designed to highlight and celebrate the contributions nurses make to society. May 12 also marks the birthday of Florence Nightingale, an influential 19th century British nurse who many
consider the founder of modern nursing. The Canadian Nurses Association celebrates its own National Nursing Week, which begins on May 10 and continues through May 16. Student nurses and school nurses are honored during National Nurses Week celebrations in the United States. Celebrations honoring nurses across the globe figure to take on greater meaning in 2021 as the world continues to confront the COVID-19
pandemic, during which hundreds of nurses have died from the virus while countless others have contracted it before eventually returning to work to continue helping those in need. This year, individuals, community leaders and privately held businesses can come together during National Nurses Week to celebrate the important work nurses do and the bravery they’ve shown while confronting one of the most devastating pandemics in history.
Citing mere feet to go before potentially being lost to the Atlantic Ocean, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer recently announced, after a call with the Army Corps of Engineers, that work to protect the Montauk Point Lighthouse will officially begin in May. Schumer, said starting in May is critical to protecting the historic structure. The lighthouse, a 1796 project propelled by George Washington, once stood hundreds of feet from the Atlantic coast, but over time, it has inched closer and closer to the water’s
edge, where it now stands in peril. “We have come a long way since 1796,” said U.S. Senator Charles Schumer. “However, so has the historic Montauk Point Lighthouse, slipping ever closer to the Atlantic’s waters, but with fed funds en route and construction to start, we will restore the shoreline protections needed to keep this beacon of Long Island pride and tourism shining for years to come.” As reported by Newsday, H&L Contracting of Bay Shore was awarded the contract for the project. The plan will remove and reuse existing five and ten-ton armor stones and add additional ones along the shore to protect the lighthouse. The project will also help stabilize the slope of where the lighthouse stands with terracing and vegetation installation. The State Department of Environmental Conservation has committed $15.4M to the project and the Montauk Historical Society will continue to maintain the site once the project is finished. According to the
Society, more than 100,000 visitors visit the lighthouse each year, even amid the pandemic. According to the State, In 1996, the U.S. Coast Guard transferred ownership of the historic site to the Montauk Historical Society, which now operates and owns the property. The Montauk Historical Society is dedicated to the protection, preservation, and educational development of this nationally significant landmark and has maintained the revetment since the early 1990s. The lighthouse complex bluff is located adjacent to the Montauk Point State Park and is primarily used by fishermen, surfers, and sightseers. “The illuminating point here is that these federal Army Corps funds made the Montauk Point Lighthouse protection project happen, and they could not come soon enough,” Schumer added. “Now, one of our great jewels shining proudly on Long Island’s coastal crown will remain in place for years to come, and it ‘shore’ is pretty.”

Lindenhurst Kindergarten Registration Information 2021-22 Registration of eligible kindergarten students for the Lindenhurst Union Free School District 202122 academic year will be performed remotely online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In accordance with established policy of the Lindenhurst School District, children must be 5 years of age on or before Dec. 1, 2021, to be enrolled in kindergarten for the upcoming year. If your child has received or is currently receiving preschool special education services, you will still need to register for kindergarten. Spirit’s Promise Equine Rescue is offering Summer Clinics every week from Monday, June 28 through Monday, August 30. During the clinic children will learn the ins and outs of a working horse rescue and will help groom, feed and care for the horses and other animals on the farm. Cost is $45 per day for members or $65 for non-members. The clinics will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for children in grades 1 – 7. A “Leader in Training” program is available for grades 8

Moms Need Timeouts, Too While time-outs may be torturous for young children eager to get up and go, alone time may sound like paradise to busy mothers. It can be helpful for parents to schedule daily timeouts, though breaks a few times per week can do the trick as well. Timeouts can benefit moms who need a break during or after a long day. Such breaks can be restful and reenergizing. Any woman can benefit from a time-out, but working mothers juggling careers and home life may be especially in need of scheduled breaks. Women who want to incorporate more breaks into
their daily routines should know that it’s possible to do so, even on the most hectic days. • You don’t need much time. A break doesn’t need to be extensive to be effective. Schedule around 30 minutes for the timeout. That’s just enough time to watch a sitcom, read a chapter in a book or enjoy a nice, steamy bath. • Choose a kid-free time of day. If possible, select a timeout period when the kids are away from home or you can be guaranteed some alone time. If this is not possible, make an arrangement with your spouse to look after the kids while you get some alone time. • Find an enjoyable activity. Select an activity for the timeout that you may not have the opportunity to enjoy when other people or tasks require your attention. Listening to music, taking an exercise class, writing in a journal, engaging in artwork or other crafts, or reading a book make for great timeout activities. A timeout is not the time to catch up on chores. • Treat yourself on occasion. Build an extra treat into the time-out, such as a bite of a favorite dessert or purchasing a clothing accessory or a luxurious body butter. This can make the timeout even more enjoyable. Timeouts can be utilized by women who feel they need opportunities to unwind and put themselves first for a short time.
