T h e Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations. Since the organization’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued. Did you know that senior citizens are the fastest growing population in the world? The number of Americans 65 and older is projected to more than double to over 98 million by 2060. To date, the Twilight Wish Foundation has granted over 3,700 wishes throughout our country! These wishes have ranged from simple needs wishes, such as shaving razors for nursing home veterans, to living life to the fullest wishes, such as going cross country in a tractor trailer truck. Recently, many Long Island residents had their wishes come true. Below is a story about Michael, a Plainview resident. Michael wished for a record player and vinyl records. The Twilight Wish Foundation happily granted his wish, and as far as the records go, he received two of his favorites! Michael had worked in insurance and took an early train into the city every morning, returning home late at night. By the time he retired, he was ready for senior living accommodations. However, retirement did not stop his desire to volunteer. Prepandemic he worked closely to help people who were lower functioning/ had dementia. During the pandemic,
he was still the first person to ask others what they needed and if he could be of help in any way. He truly gives so much without thinking of taking. Thank you for being you, Michael! You can qualify for a Twilight Wish if you are at least 65 years old, are a legal U.S. citizen, demonstrate financial need, provide a history of giving back to others and possess the cognitive, emotional and physical ability to experience the wish. Please note, when going to grant a wish, this foundation takes all the necessary safety precautions. If you are interested in volunteering with their Long Island Chapter, you can fill out the Chapter Volunteer Application at www.twilightwish.org/volunteeropportunities/ and someone will get in contact with you regarding how you can do so. The Long Island chapter operates under the direction of James Ciervo. Lastly, if you would like to donate to this organization, please visit their website. K of C Council 794 Finally Get Keys To World War Veterans Club In Lindenhurst
It’s official!!! The keys to the World War Veteran’s Building at 185 North Broadway in Lindenhurst were handed over to Knights of Columbus Council 794 by Suffolk County Parks’ Director of Historic Services Richard Martin on Tuesday, March 23rd. After nearly two years of numerous legislative resolutions, meetings, contract negotiations, asbestos removal and a thorough clean-up, the building was officially placed under the stewardship of the Knights. The Lindenhurst Council 794 of the Knights of Columbus have been active in the Lindenhurst
community since 1903, nearly 18 years prior to the construction of the World War Veterans Club. Suffolk County Legislator Kevin J. McCaffrey, members of the Knights of Columbus, and the Suffolk County Parks Department came together for the final walk through on Tuesday, March 23rd. “The renovation of the building is just beginning, said Jim Barthelmes of the K of C Council 794. It will take a little bit of time, money and hard work to bring the building back to its former glory.” Legislator McCaffrey added, “We are thrilled to put this historic building back into service for our community.
Instead of falling further into disrepair, the building will get a new lease on life, preserve an important piece of Lindenhurst’s rich history, and act as the new home for the Knights of Columbus Council 794.” The building will have the artifacts from the original club members on permanent display for the community to see. It will also be a venue for small events and a meeting place for the Knights who have been forced to hold meetings in various places since the closure and sale of their former home on South Broadway several years ago.

The Dangers Of Dented Cans
Dented cans have long been a source of confusion and concern for shoppers. They may be discounted and seem like a good deal, but some of those dented cans may not be safe to eat. Damaged cans may be harboring food that contains botulism and other toxins. According to the United States Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Services, if a can of food has a small dent but is otherwise in good shape, the food should be safe to eat. However, deeply dented cans should be discarded. Dented cans of food that are safe will have smooth dents or dents that are not on the seams of the can. A person should avoid sharp dents, dents in the seam and dents where the seam and the can meet. In addition, if the can is bulging or swollen, it should be avoided. Dents in a seam can let in air and bacteria. Deep dents may have left pinholes, again where bacteria can enter.

right here on Long Island.
Rhonda Klch is the Executive Director and Founder of Equity First, which was formed in 2004. This organization provides financial education, literacy and best practices to the community at low or no cost. Financial decisions are based on emotional scenarios, often times leading to clients making poor choices and decisions in regards to their future. Equity First creates and implements an approved client plan until the desired result is achieved. Their programs include money management, budget reviews, financial well check, credit restoration, debt settlement, bankruptcy consulting, loss mitigation services and more. Each service is paired with ongoing consultations to ensure a thorough understanding of timelines, expectations and benchmarks. Rhonda and her team are making an incredible impact in the Long Island community. In addition to financially assisting others, during the pandemic they have also given locals in need food, gift cards, personal hygiene products and more.
Lisa Gatti is the Founder and CEO of Pal-O-Mine Equestrian and the mother of her 13 year old daughter, who is the pride and joy of her life. Her passion for horses and teaching began at a very young age. In college, she was the captain of the equestrian team and she graduated with a dual degree in Elementary and Special Education. She has supplemented her education throughout the years by taking other educational programs. In 1996 and 2000, Lisa was named as US Team Leader for the US Equestrian Paralympic Team in Atlanta, Georgia and Sydney, Australia. From 2008-2013 Lisa served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of EAGALA, the global standard for equine assisted psychotherapy and personal development. In 2015, Lisa was named to the Board of Autism Communities. Most recently in 2019, she was appointed to the Town of Islip Disability Advisory Committee to help local government identify the most crucial issues facing our special needs population. She was honored with the 2020 Woman of Distinction and Distinguished Service Award from The Town of Islip, is a current finalist for the Imagine Awards for the Leadership Excellence Category and just received the 2021 Circle Of Excellence Award from the Long Island Business News. Throughout the pandemic, she still sees the greatness around her everyday and believes that when we see it in others, we know it, and when we trust its presence in ourselves, we embody it.
Eileen Scanlon has been a NYS Licensed Cosmetologist for 30 years. She has worked with Corporate America, Non Profits, Academia and local grass-roots organizations. In the 1640s, the Halsey family began farming in the Water Mill and Bridgehampton area. Today, their family farm tradition continues as Milk Pail Fresh Market & U-Pick, which is run by both Amy and Jennifer Halsey. The Village of Babylon Historical & Preservation Society held their “Great Reveal” early on St. Patrick’s Day. The event was attended by Suffolk County Legislator Kevin J. McCaffrey, newly elected Village of Babylon Mayor Mary E. Adams, Village Trustee Robyn Silvestri,

On a cold, winter day the sun broke through the clouds as the Village of Lindenhurst kicked off construction of a 362kW Solar PV Carport at the LIRR Commuter Parking Lot. This state-of-the-art, renewable energy solar carport project is part of the Village’s Energy Solutions Project in partnership with Johnson Controls, a leader in energyefficient technology. The partnership is creating opportunities for the Village to produce clean, renewable energy at various Village-owned facilities, and the production of solar energy at the Commuter Lot is a key part of this sustainability commitment. When the project is completed, it is expected to generate enough electricity to

First introduced in the Village of Lindenhurst, the program has now expanded throughout Babylon where banners will be displayed on decorative lamp posts from Memorial Day to Veterans Day.
In addition to the banner, participants will receive a 4x6 print suitable for framing, a digital version for sharing on social media and the opportunity to share their Hometown Heroes’ story to the Lindenhurst Kiwanis website.
