Parking along Wellwood Avenue will be restricted starting at 9:00 AM on Parade Day, and cross streets along the parade route will be barricaded starting at approximately 10:30AM. Conceived by Parade Committee CoPresidents David Crowe, Proprietor of Lindenhurst’s Belfast Gastropub, and RJ Renna, Lindenhurst Village Trustee, this is the first St. Patrick’s Parade in the almost 100-year history of the Village. Also on the Parade Committee are Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer Kevin McCaffrey, and Committee Secretary Katie Schrader. Make sure your calendars are marked for March 26th! Some good news from the pandemic is that the public has recognized the need to support youth mental health and well-being. Educators supported their students in ways they had never imagined, schools and parents have recognized mental health is an essential part of overall health...mental health conditions are real, common and treatable. Youth experiencing mental health issues deserve support, compassion and care not stigma and shame. Research shows that the most important thing a child needs to be resilient is a stable committed relationship with a supportive adult. So what can parents do?

The United States Surgeon General issued an advisory in December 2021, Protecting Youth Mental Health, which spoke to the unprecedented challenges our nation’s children and families face, compounded by the pandemic. Without surprise, the report highlights the growing prevalence of young people experiencing mental health issues and acknowledges risk factors that became more present as a result of COVID-19. Responding to youth and families for the past 45 years and maintaining essential programs throughout the pandemic, YES Community Counseling Center is keenly aware of the growing needs and challenges referenced in the Surgeon General’s advisory.

Emotional Regulation. Practice techniques to manage emotions by ﬁrst

developing emotional intelligence within ourselves and our children. Taking the space between thoughts and behavior to identify feelings and how to effectively communicate those feelings, etc. Talk about the risk of alcohol and drugs. Children are exposed to positive images about alcohol at a very young age. Parents need to counteract those positive messages by communicating the negative impact of alcohol and other drugs in a youth’s developing brain. Look out for warning signs of distress and seek help when needed. Signs of distress include irritability, anger, withdrawal, changes in appearance, performance at school, sleeping or eating patterns. When you notice changes let your child know your concerns and be ready to support them. Seek professional help through your pediatrician if necessary. Manage youth time and activities online. Digital technology has promote both positive and negative experiences. Assess how your child feels after spending time online, etc. YES Community Counseling Center offers a variety of programs for children, teens and parents that support healthy development and strong families. Some testimonies that have been shared by those that received services at YES within the past year are below: My parenting has become more consistent which is in turn helping my kids behave better and strengthening our relationships. The groups have made a tremendous difference for me and my family. It allowed me to navigate my family crisis - several times - with strength and resilience. The Museum Of American Armor Will Field An Education Day For Long Island’s High School Students That Connects History To Headlines

Stating that today’s headlines about Russia’s war on Ukraine were written some 80 years ago as a grim legacy of World War II, the Museum of American Armor, the Long Island Living History Association (LILHA) and Nassau County Department of Parks, Recreation & Museums will conduct a joint educational field program that will allow thousands of Long Island high school students to strengthen their understanding of World War II and the shadow it continues to cast nearly a century later. The event will be held on Friday, May 13th, and preregistration is now open to social studies classes across Long Island. The program integrates classroom curriculum with operational armor, military

field tactics, and mock small arms in open woods reminiscent of World War II France. Lawrence Kadish, president and founder of the museum, said, “There has been a deliberate reduction in class time assigned to teaching history, and World War II in particular. As a result, many students have no context for what the world is seeing in Ukraine and how Putin is repeating Hitler’s playbook almost to the letter. We need to appreciate that today’s headlines were written by history and this program seeks to address that.” Gloria Sesso, the Armor Museum’s education coordinator and copresident of the Long Island Council for the Social Studies, explained, “This program creates an immersion program for

students that integrates classroom study guides with an extraordinary field experience. As the classroom returns to normal following COVID this program regains the ability to tell the story of World War II, its legacy,

and why the chilling scenes we are seeing in Ukraine are yet another chapter written by that conflict.” Dr. Libby O’Connell, History Channel Chief Historian Emeritus and Chairperson of the NYC World War I Centennial

Commission, said, “This day-long program has the means to become a statewide model for field trips that place students in a period of time that remains a pivotal moment in world history. Those school districts that participate
