This Vegetarian Reuben Sandwich is a fun take on the traditional Jewish-style favorite, but swaps out fatty corned beef for stir-fried veggies!

Remove swiss cheese covered bread and plate the slices, with each slice facing up. Spread one or two tablespoons of Thousand Island Dressing onto each slice. Scoop sauerkraut onto each slice above dressing. Lastly, scoop drained veggie mixture onto bread and close sandwich.
Preparation Combine diced portobello mushrooms, spinach leaves and sliced onion into a frying pan that has 1/4 cup water at the bottom. Trun on high until stove gets going. Then reduce heat to low

The Lindenhurst studentcreated business Caffeine Dreamin competed against more than 50 local districts, earning one gold medal for their impressive performance. The teen business leaders of Caffeine Dreamin are Alyssa DeFelice, Ryan Pizarro, Michael Micara, Vincent Sottile and Julita Wiechowski. They were judged by industry professionals based on their combined performance in the oral and written presentations of the Caffeine Dreamin business plan. The Lindenhurst students marketed their firm’s virtual goods and services, and networked with other students, business leaders and college mentors from across the metro area during the live Trade Show event. In the Business Plan Competition, the future business leaders competed in a variety of categories, demonstrating their thinking, perspective and skills to the Long Island business community. “Helping Both Ends of The Leash” Paws of War is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that trains and places shelter dogs to serve and provide independence to our U.S. military Veterans who suffer from the emotional effects of war. In turn, each V e t e r a n can experience the therapeutic and unconditional love that only a companion animal can bring! Since 2014, Paws of War has supported over 100 Veterans with service dogs rescued from kill shelters.

If you work or volunteer at a shelter and have a special dog that you believe would be a good match for a Veteran in need, you can submit a short video and biography of the dog to Paws of War through their website! They will then consider your rescued dog for their program once they have received all the information you can provide. All dogs that will be considered must be rescued/ shelter dogs, social, healthy, eager to please, good with other dogs and good with people.
You can also donate to Paws of War to help them carry out their mission. Individuals can donate on their website or by mail. There is truly no donation amount that is too small. They would not be able to carry out their mission of helping both ends of the leash without the generosity of their supporters. All donations are taxdeductible.
This organization relies heavily on devoted volunteers to continue providing their services. With such a small staff, Paws of War depends on the generosity of volunteers to support their fundraising efforts, to provide support to veterans and to help out with their dogs. To help educate and protect consumers, world-renowned fraud prevention expert Frank Abagnale offers these tips: • Shop smart: Limit the credit cards you carry. •Keep receipts and check your statements: Examine every charge on your statement before paying. Your receipts provide a great cross-reference check and guard against suspicious activity. You have 30 days from the date of your statement to notify your financial institution of any discrepancies; otherwise, you can be liable for any purchases. • Protect your computer when online shopping: Make sure your security
patch and anti-virus software are updated regularly. Consider technology to protect against potential viruses. • Watch where you shop online: Look for the lock icon on the site’s browser status bar, a sign that that site is safe. If you have never heard of a website before, see if it has security precautions in place and isn’t a fake site set up by identity thieves. •Don’t write checks: Give cash or gift cards. Even before half the adults in America had their information stolen from a major credit-reporting agency, there were about 178 million personal records exposed in 2015 and it’s estimated that number rose to more than 200 million in 2016. The technology you use every day—computers at work or home, printers and your mobile phone— needs to be protected. By 2020 there are projected to be 20.8 billion Internetconnected things—and they’ll all need protection. Tackling Depression Can Lead To A Happier New Year
Taking care of an elderly loved one can be fulfilling. It isn’t always easy, however. Having to do it from another city or state can make the challenges seem even more complex. Out of the 34 million Americans who provide care to older family members, 15 percent live an hour or more away from their relative. Out of these, nearly 80 percent work full- or part-time. How do they manage? It takes organization, determination and a supportive employer. Long-distance caregivers provide a wide array of services at great cost to themselves. According to
a survey by the National Alliance for Caregiving, long-distance caregivers spend an average of $392 per month on travel and out-of-pocket expenses. The expenditure in time is no less than the expenditure in dollars. Out of the more than 1,100 long-distance caregivers contacted by the National Alliance for Caregiving, half of them said they spend nearly 14 hours a month arranging care services and half said they spend another 16 hours a month checking on their care recipient or monitoring the care being received. Nearly three-quarters of these long-distance caregivers
provide help with instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) such as transportation, shopping, cooking, cleaning, managing finances and medications-for an average of 22 hours per month. Considering that so many long-distance caregivers are employed, they often have to make significant adjustments to their work schedules to allow for their caregiving responsibilities. Twenty-five percent of the surveyed long-distance caregivers had shortened their workday while they were caregiving and 36 percent reported missing full days of work. Twelve percent had taken a leave
of absence. The forces that have created today’s longdistance caregiver realities, including an aging population, families separated by distance, more women entering the workforce, and global competitiveness among companies, are unlikely to reverse themselves in the near future. Rather, the challenges and workbalance issues are likely to accelerate. Clearly, longdistance caregiving already
impacts retention and productivity. What can an employer do? Certainly, sensitizing line managers to the issue is a reasonable starting point. Adjusting policies to allow job sharing and short-time relief, as well as providing information and help in coordinating eldercare, are definitely worthwhile investments, compared to the cost of attrition and lost productivity. And, since long-distance caregivers have financial burdens

Spread Cheer, Not Germs ARA - Stopping by the nursing home or hospital to spend time with loved ones is a ritual for thousands of Americans -- but are you sharing more than smiles and hugs when you visit? “Your hands are the main transmitters of health careacquired infections,” says Alecia Cooper, a registered nurse and senior vice president of clinical services for Medline Industries, Inc. “This shouldn’t come as a surprise, since your hands are constantly in contact with your surroundings -opening doors or dialing the phone, for example.” Two simple things can go a long way toward ensuring that you’re not sharing bacteria along with your special treats --
keeping your hands clean and making sure you are cleaning them correctly. Just as important is making sure you are covering the areas of your hands that are likely to have the greatest density of germs. According to a study published in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology, these include the area under your fingernails, your palms, the backs of your hands and the “webbing” in between your fingers. “Put a squirt of gel or soap in the palm of one hand and dip the fingertips of the opposite hand into the pools before spreading over other areas, then repeat with the other hand and fingertips,” says Cooper. “It only takes a
few seconds and you will be getting at where the majority of germs are.” Proper hand hygiene is one of the cornerstones in preventing the spread of infection in a health care setting.
