The Charity of The Month for February is: Girls on the Run of Long Island www.gotrlongisland.org

This organization also runs a program called Heart & Sole. This is their middle school program that meets the unique needs of girls in 6th-8th grade. Heart & Sole takes girls as a whole into consideration body, brain, heart, spirit and social connection - in a positive and structured space, where participants can learn about themselves, explore new ideas, cultivate empathy and stregthen connections. Running is incorporated into each lesson to encourage physical wellness. These girls also prepare for a celebratory 5K event at the end of the program. The upcoming spring season

Meeting twice a week in small teams for a 10-week season, a volunteer coach will teach girls life skills through engaging lessons and fun movement activities. At each season’s conclusion, all girls from teams across Long Island will meet up for a celebratory 5K running event.

A New Lease On Life Legislator McCaffrey penned two resolutions that were approved by the Suffolk County Legislature at the General Meeting on February 11, 2020. The approval of the resolutions completed a long term effort to bring the World War Veterans Club of Lindenhurst building at 185 North Broadway back into the community. The historic building that has been vacant for the better part of three decades, received a new lease on life. Introductory Resolutions 1012 & 1070 placed the building

into the Suffolk County Historic Trust and paved the way for the Knights of Columbus Council No.794 to enter into a long term contract for the restoration, maintenance, and operation of the historic building. The Knights of Columbus are an organization that has proudly served the Lindenhurst community on many charitable endeavors since 1903. The community will again be able to enjoy the use of this local historic building that will be a meeting place for the Knights of Columbus,

host local events, and a museum showcasing artifacts and memorabilia from World War I and II from our War Veterans right here in Lindenhurst. “The commitment and investment by the Knights of Columbus really created a “win win” situation for the community”, said McCaffrey. “The historic building will provide a home for Council 794, host local events, and act as a museum which satisfies the intent of the original members of the World War Veterans Club.
