The Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst officially launched it’s 2021 Hometown Heroes Banner Program in partnership with the Town of Babylon offering residents the opportunity to honor service men and women with a commemorative banner to be displayed in the hamlets of North Babylon, West Babylon, Deer Park, Wheatley Heights, North Amityville, Wyandanch and Copiague. First introduced in the Village of Lindenhurst, the program has now expanded throughout Babylon where banners will be displayed on decorative lamp posts from Memorial Day to Veterans Day.

better. As everyone in charge claims to follow the science, why are seniors who make up more than 60% of Covid related hospitalizations being left in the dark? In Israel, 72% of seniors age 60 and above are vaccinated already. Seniors especially
those aged 75 plus have the least amount of access to technology which appears to be how notification vaccine distribution will be disseminated. Legislator Leslie Kennedy stated “County Government must protect the health, safety and wellbeing of residents. Distribution of the
Covid 19 vaccine will do just that. Announce today a plan for our seniors to be vaccinated in every Town in Suffolk County!” Every Town Supervisor in Suffolk County has volunteered to open up their facilities including unused community senior centers to serve as vaccine distribution
sites and assist in communication to seniors. To date offer of assistance from Towns has not received a response. Legislator Rob Trotta added “County Executive Bellone has managed to put Suffolk County number 62 out of 62, dead last for fiscal stability. It appears he’s trying to

Their non-profit continued to grow so much so that Debbie and Brittany decided to open up a storefront location in Patchogue called Angels of Long Island. Their slogan Neighbors helping neighbors is a great reflection of what this thriving thrift store/boutique/donation center does. “We work so hard to keep our store clean and beautiful so that all of our customers who walk through our doors feels a sense of dignity and respect shopping at our store,” says Debbie. “We are not like your average thrift store! We carry designer brands and offer a unique experience.” The mission of this non-profit is to assist and advocate for people in our Long Island community who are in need of assistance. Their goal is to empower people to overcome poverty and live prosperous lives. They truly provide a wide range of services and goods to people in crisis, however anyone can come shop at their Patchogue store, which has recently expanded, located at 350-23 East Main Street. The store is proud to take many types of donations. They now accept bottle and can donations every Monday-Saturday from 9AM-3PM, where you can simply pull up curbside, pop your trunk and a team member will take the donations for you. All bottles and cans must be marked New York state deposit and no broken glass bottles are able to be accepted. Please remember to separate glass items from plastic items before you donate them. Pickups at your residence are available for large quantities of recyclables. Additionally, they accept other donations, such as new or gently used clothing, housewares, home decor and
furniture. All proceeds from this store go directly to help Long Island residents in need. If you have some free time on your hands and are comfortable volunteering at the store, please contact Debbie at 631.205.3458. During this pandemic, Angels of Long Island is short staffed and looking for help. Their store is cleaned every morning and masks are required there. Please only consider volunteering if you are not showing any covid symptoms. Everyone’s safety is their first priority. Lastly, every Saturday until further notice, Angels of Long Island will team up with Carroll’s Kitchen, another Long Island based non-profit. Together they will be handing out gourmet to-go meals for free to anyone who stops by the Angels’ Patchogue store when the meals are available (please visit the Angels of Long Island Facebook page for meal arrival updates). Anyone is welcome to come and let a team member know how many dinners you need. The meals are distributed via curbside pickup. “So many people are out of work,” says Debbie. “If we can help their budget a ltitle by providing a meal for their family, it thrills me!” I personally would like to thank both nonprofit organizations for making a difference on our island, touching the hearts of those in need and having a smile on your faces while doing so! “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.” Proverbs 19:17
