Rescheduled 10th Annual All Kids Fair Has Gone Virtual! The 10th annual All Kids Fair, which was postponed from its usual month of April to November 8 has now gone virtual! An expo which draws thousands could not take place due to COVID-19, but rest assured a great time can still be had by all members of the family online. This year’s All Kids Fair, which will take place from 11 AM – 4 PM, will have a great line-up of virtual classes for the kids of all ages with some for the adults, too. Some of the many kids’ classes will be: Incredibles Entertainment, Science Party, Captain America Entertainment, Intro to Chess, and an Adventure Style Class. For the adults, there will be classes on essential oils, avoiding sugar in your children’s diet, and financial planning. Since families always enjoy our petting zoo, this year there will be several virtual “live animal visits,” where farm animals such as sheep, goats and a mini-donkey will be the stars. In addition to being educational, the “visits” will be highly entertaining. Another new addition to this year’s event are “coffee talks,” opportunities for parents to interact with others at the same stage of life, such as those with a child who is an infant, toddler, elementary age,
middle school age, special needs, and gifted. All Kids Fair Director Barbara Kaplan said the time is right to pivot to an All Kids Fair virtual expo. “It’s definitely not “just a Zoom event.’ It is a fullfledged virtual expo. We have incorporated many of the activities of our live events plus some new opportunities such as our ‘virtual live animal visits’ and ‘coffee talks.’ We are sure that families will have a great time learning about many classes, services and products available to them.” Multi-year sponsor and exhibitor Jennifer Keegan, owner of Your Local Kids Source magazine, shared her thoughts on this event. “After a year full of ups and downs, we are looking forward to an opportunity to connect with Long Island parents and help them find the resources their family needs now. Things might be a little different but the virtual All Kids Fair offers the same discovery and family enjoyment as in years past. We can’t wait!” The All Kids Fair, as always, will have many diverse exhibitors including party entertainment, tutoring, activities, health/wellness products and services, non-profits, travel, and even a Girl Scout troop.

Pa l - O - M i n e Equestrian is a comprehensive therapeutic equine program that uses horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for individuals with disabilities and for other vulnerable populations that was founded by Lisa Gatti.
Spina Bifida, Genetic Disorders and Emotional Disturbances. They also offer group programs, individual lessons, c o r p o r a t e workshops and a program specifically designed for military members.
Lisa’s mother was a special education teacher and her father worked for a book publishing company. She was greatly influenced by both of their professions. She grew up knowing she loved horses, but really wanted to become a teacher and work with children in need. Her father would often send her books while she was away at college, and one day she received a book titled Palomino, by Danielle Steel. As she read through the pages, she became inspired by what was written: a ranch that was formed to help people through equine therapy. From that point on, she was certain that was exactly what she wanted to do with her life. Through persistence, hard work and a passion to serve others, Lisa Gatti opened Pal-O-Mine Equestrian in 1995 as a 501C(3) organization.

Pal-O-Mine is located at 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia. They grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week, and they continue to grow today! This organization sits on eight acres, with a 20-stall barn, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a new 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with state-of-theart footing and a rider hoisting system, and three outdoor riding arenas. Just like our houses which are temporary vessels for our bodies while we are living, the casket is only a temporary vessel to hold our bodies or the bodies of our loved ones after life ceases. Our thoughts become infinite when we pass our memories on to the next generation. Love becomes infinite when we pass it on to each other in the form of kindness, acceptance and caring for one another. Our souls become infinite when we return to God. Our bodies and caskets become infinite when they are returned to the elements from whence they came, be it in the earth or by cremation. Therefore, when you select a casket for burial or cremation remember it is, like a house, only a temporary vessel to hold your loved one. Only that which cannot be seen is infinite. Additionally, this organization is proud to now offer a Frontline Heroes Wellness Program. This program is complimentary for medical professionals and first responders, and can be virtual or in person. The well-known benefits of being in nature include reduced stress while providing a sense of calm, connection and solace. Sessions for this program may include reiki, mindfulness and horsemanship. The first is when resistance develops naturally when the body is exposed to the virus or bacteria. At this point, the immune system will produce antibodies to fight off the infection. 100 Years Blessed Celbrating Nancy Leftenant-Colon’s 100th Birthday Nancy Leftenant-Colon was born on September 29th, 1920 to James Sr. and Eunice Leftenant. One of 12 children, Nancy grew up poor and learned early on that determination and pride were essential survival skills. James and Eunice wanted their children to be bright, positive, and steadfast. Nancy is the epitome of her parent’s wishes. Aviation was in the family blood as Nancy’s brother; Sam Leftenant, was a pilot with the Tuskegee Airmen who saw extensive action in WWII. Sam Leftenant was shot down over Austria in April of 1945. In January 1945, following her graduation from Lincoln School for Nurses, Bronx New York, Nancy volunteered for and was accepted into active duty as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Air Corps. Lt Leftenant’ s first assignment was at Lowell General Hospital. Fort Devens, Massachusetts. This nursing assignment was the forerunner to the integration of black nurses into the all-white medical units. Prior to this assignment, all black nurses were assigned from basic training to an allblack unit which was in Arizona. It was in 1946 that Lt. Leftenant was assigned to the 332nd Station Medical Group at Lockbourne Army Air Base in Columbus, Ohio. It was during this assignment that Lt. Leftenant made her entry into history by becoming the first black nurse to be accepted, commissioned, and integrated into the regular Army Air Corps. In 1947 she transferred to the Air-Force which was designated as a separate branch of the armed services. During 1953 – 1954, as a qualified Flight Nurse assigned to the 648
1st Medical Evacuation Group at Tachikawa, Japan, Capt. Leftenant supervised two or more technicians (depending upon the patient load) while evacuating patients intraJapan, intra-Korea, from Japan to Okinawa and from Seoul, Korea to Tachikawa, Japan. All outbound cargo carrier aircraft upon return became inbound “Air Evacuation.” Following the fall of Dien Bien Pu in 1954, Capt. Leftenant was assigned as a member of the first flight evacuation crew assigned to the C-124 Globemaster(s) used to evacuate the first 100 patients (French Legionnaires) from Saigon to Tachikawa, Japan. Following military retirement (Chief Nurse, Major, USAFNC) Nancy returned to her hometown, Amityville, New York to continue in public service as a high school nurse from which she retired in June 1984. In March 1985, the Amityville Free School District commemorated
the thirtieth anniversary of Nancy’s appointment to the Regular Army Nurse Corps with a reception and a proclamation declaring the month of April as the Nancy Leftenant Colon Month; to be observed by the school community and to be discussed in the classroom as an event of historical significance to the nation and to the district. Nancy Leftenant Colon served in the position of National Secretary for Tuskegee Airmen Incorporated (TAI), from 1978-1987. At the TAI Annual Convention in 1987, Nancy was duly elected to position of 1st Vice President, and in 1989, she was duly elected to the position of President of Tuskegee Airmen, Incorporated, the first woman to be elected to the position. Mary Leftenant (Nancy’s sister) stated if life treated her unfairly, Nancy only gained strength, it made her a better person.
