The DJ played games with the children, and they enjoyed turning one of their friends into a Valentine’s Day Mummy. The DJ also played all their favorite songs. The annual Mardi Gras Pancake Supper at Saint Boniface Episcopal Church in Lindenhurst will be held on Saturday, March 1st, at 6 p.m. Tickets will be $10 per adult and $5 each for children under 12 years old. QUESTION: Do dentures eliminate need for home care? ANSWER: Not at all. For both removable partial and complete dentures, plaque and food deposits must be cleaned from the denture each day. Rinse the denture with water to remove any loose debris, and then apply a denture-cleaning paste to a moist brush and clean all surfaces of the denture. Brush thoroughly, but not too hard. Overzealous brushing could damage plastic parts or bend metal clasps. Ask your dentist for advice about which products to use. Household cleaners and some toothpaste's should not be used because they may be too abrasive. Don't leave dentures with metal parts in denture-cleaning solutions longer than the recommended periods because the solution may tarnish metal parts. Never clean a denture in bleach because it could alter its color or corrode the metal parts.

Random Thoughts By: Jamie Lynn Ryan As if navigating the roads this winter wasn’t hazardous enough with the snow and ice and freezing rain, we now have a new obstacle to contend with – the vast wasteland of potholes cropping up on every corner and parkway ramp. Try attempting to slow down as your headlights catch a glimpse of the crater before you, just waiting to devour a tire or two. One more time – is it spring yet? At least spring training has finally arrived, and with it the not entirely unexpected announcement

from Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter that this season will be his final year playing baseball. A class act until the end, Jeter took to his Facebook page to write a heartfelt message of thanks and appreciation to his fans, his teammates, his family and friends. He will leave the Yankees at the top of his game, a surefire first-ballot Hall of Famer with a legacy the likes of which will not be seen again. Speaking of, remember all those long lost friends you thought you would never see again? Well, thanks to social networking, virtual reunions have become fairly

common. Sure, there’s plenty of useless material to navigate through; but if you learn to utilize these sites properly, the odds of reconnecting with someone are pretty likely. Everything in moderation, right? That’s the mentality you need to adopt for spring – moderation – with diet, exercise, everything. Those bathing suits that have been cropping up in every department store? They’re not going away anytime soon. Better crawl out of that winter state of hibernation and greet the brand new season right around the corner… it’s just over the horizon, past the potholes.

On Sunday, March 2nd, the 4th Annual Elizabeth Durante Memorial Pancake Breakfast will be held, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the West Islip Fire Department, located on Union Boulevard in West Islip. All proceeds will benefit the Elizabeth Durante Medical Clinic and Orphanage in a remote part of Uganda. There will be

rafﬂes, a Chinese Auction, a 50/50 and more. There will also be free tours for children of the firehouse and the trucks. The Clinic provides free healthcare and surgery for women and children who otherwise would have no access to these medical services. The Orphanage supplies housing to 300 children. Elizabeth Durante was

on her way to Uganda in March of 2009 when she was tragically killed by a drunk driver. Her parents, Dr. Keith and his wife Kathy, have carried on the mission of the Clinic and Orphanage in Elizabeth’s memory. March is the 31st Annual National Eye Donor Awareness month. Since 1961, more than one million adults and children have had their sight restored as a result of eye
