FULL PLUMBING SERVICE

The Social Brain is a brand new 501(c)(3) non profit in the state of New York. They are on the brink of breaking through as one of the most unique and helpful organizations that serves those suffering from a brain injury. Their mission is to provide brain injury survivors the opportunity to build friendships through socialization and reduced isolation. This organization began in January 2019 when a group of individuals, families and professionals joined together to brainstorm ideas of how they can help brain injury survivors socialize and partake in various hobbies together. Many survivors spend much of their lives in and out of rehab and home feeling isolated, but The Social Brain formed to change that. After hosting various events for survivors such as a day at Sweetbriar Nature Center, a Bowling Event, a Library Day and an afternoon at Four Star Ranch, it was obvious that they were reaching a population in need. Just last month, The Social Brain was granted 501(c)(3) status in the state of New York and they have just started working out of a community center located at 202 Middle Country Road in Middle Island. The Social Brain operates solely on volunteers and their outreach comes not only from word of mouth, but from help through their recent partnerships with local hospitals, school districts, neurology departments, Peconic Speech Services in Riverhead and St. Joseph’s College. Survivors from all over Long Island are welcome to get involved with The Social Brain. On average, each event they host has about 30-40 participates and there is no age restrictions. Recently a 4-week session hosted by The Social Brain and Peconic Speech Services in Riverhead started to help survivors learn social skills, build friendships, find cues from others and interact with peers. The first session was on August 6th and the following 3 sessions will be on August 13th, 20th and 27th. Age groups are broken down from ages 5-7, 8-12, teens and adults. information. On August 16th at 6:30PM, The Social Brain is hosting a “Basket Night Fundraiser” at the Sound Beach Property Owners Association. This will be fun night with 250 plus baskets and prizes being raffled off; top raffles include brand new bicycles from Walmart and an overnight stay at Gurney’s in Montauk. All are welcome to attend! GRAVITY DEFYING EXPERIMENTS - Fourth grade students participating in the summer elementary school program in the Copiague School District are learning all about the laws of gravity. To test out their knowledge, the class stepped outside for some hands-on experiments. After filling buckets with water, students tested the laws of gravity by swinging their buckets upside down to see if the water would spill. This year we are honored to feature The United States Navy Band COUNTRY CURRENT as one of our headlining acts. Country Current, the premier country-bluegrass group of the United States Navy Band in Washington, D.C., showcases a fivemember acoustic ensemble performing traditional, contemporary and original bluegrass compositions. The members often compose their own songs, which have been featured on Country Current recordings, including Country Current LIVE and Sugarland Run. Their music has been heard on radio stations around the nation, and they have been featured on XM satellite radio.

The Long Island Bluegrass & Roots Music Festival is an afternoon of traditional Bluegrass, Americana and Roots Music, Children’s Activities, Workshops, Vendors, Food and Fun! Bluegrass music workshops are available featuring performers from the main stage bands. There is also a hosted ‘Jam Area’ for those who play bluegrass music on any level and want to bring an instrument so they can join in during the afternoon.
