PSEG Long Island Asks Massapequans To Help Their Neighbors In Need
PSEG Long Island’s Power to Feed Long Island food drive is coming to Massapequa on Friday, June 12, from 9 AM to 4 PM. Now in its sixth year, food collection bins and a drive-through option will be set up at the Stop & Shop supermarket located at 702 Hicksville Road in Massapequa. Community members are encouraged to come down and donate nonperishable food, household essentials, and baby and pet food to help their neighbors facing food insecurity. Customers making donations will be offered free LED light bulbs and reusable shopping bags.
During the summer months, there is a significant reduction in food donations to local food banks, pantries and other programs. And year round, hundreds of thousands of Long Islanders struggle with food insecurity and supporting their families.

The entire community is invited to celebrate the Year of the Horse at Pal-O-Mine Equestrian’s “The Mane Event,” a family-friendly festival where kids and adults of all ages will get to experience the magic of the organization’s 13-acre horse farm. The event will take place on Friday, June 19, from 2 to 6 p.m., during the school holiday that honors Juneteenth, at Pal-O-Mine, 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia.
The Mane Event will feature a parade of PalO-Mine’s many breeds of horses, special riding demonstrations, interactive games, and educational activities. Guests will also meet other residents of the farm, including sheep, donkeys, and chickens, and have the chance to interact with all of the animals.

Massapequa Names New Arts, CTE Leaders
The Massapequa School District welcomes Katie LoRusso as the new director of fine and performing arts, effective July 1.
The Massapequa School District announces the appointment of two department administrators for the 2026-2027 school year. Katie LoRusso joins the district as the director of fine and performing arts, and Dani Shehada is moving from the Berner Middle School classroom to become supervisor of career and technical education. Both are replacing administrators who are retiring and take on their new roles July 1.
Ms. LoRusso has served as the music chairperson at H. Frank Carey High School in the Sewanhaka Central High School District for the past two years. Her teaching career began at Plainedge Middle School in 2005 before joining the music faculty at Carey the following year.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, a master’s degree in music education from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College and administrative certifications from Stony Brook University. Ms. LoRusso is a member of

Ms. Shehada has 18 years of experience as an educator, including the past 10 as a family and consumer sciences teachers at Berner. This year, she teaches sixth grade, eighth grade and Career and Community Connections students.
She has gained administrative experience by working as the Summer Recreation coordinator since 2024, overseeing the program and site directors at seven schools. As CTE supervisor, the secondary business education, driver’s education, family and consumer sciences and

The snacks were sweet and so was the company as kindergartners welcomed special guests for the annual Mother’s Day tea on May 5 at East Lake Elementary School in the Massapequa School District.
Youngsters gathered in the cafeteria shortly after the school day began and
their faces lit up as their mothers or grandmothers arrived to spend about an hour together. Students first sang a song and recited a poem together. Then, their guests joined them at the table to nosh on cookies and cinnamon buns and sip on iced tea.
In advance of the Mother’s Day celebration, students made placemats, tissue paper corsages, hand-drawn portraits and “All About My Mom” booklets. One of the walls was decorated in paper flowers, on which each student wrote adjectives to describe his or her mother. The event ended with hugs as the special guests departed with their gifts.
One-Stop Passport Weekend
To help residents looking to obtain new passports, Oyster Bay Town Clerk Richard LaMarca announced that his office will offer a special one-stop Passport Weekend on Saturday, June 6th and Sunday, June 7th from 9am to 3pm at both Town Hall North in Oyster Bay and Town Hall South in Massapequa. Residents are required to book appointments in advance.
Requirements for applying for a passport include:
One 2×2 color photograph with a clear view of the applicant’s face against a plain white or light colored background. Photos will also be available for $10 at both Town Halls North and South during Passport Weekend.
Proof of U.S. Citizenship – Previously issued undamaged U.S. passport, certified birth certificate, Consular Report of Birth Abroad or Certification of Birth, Naturalization Certificate, or Certificate of Citizenship.
Proof of Identity –Naturalization Certificate, Valid Driver’s License (cannot have been issued or renewed in the last six months), Current Government ID (city, state or federal), Current Military ID (military and dependents).

Newly Appointed Massapequa Water Commissioner Sworn In
Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino recently joined members of the Massapequa Water District to officially swear in and congratulate newly appointed Commissioner Leonard Antonelli. During the ceremony, Supervisor Saladino administered the oath of office and praised Commissioner Antonelli for stepping forward to serve the community and help oversee one of Massapequa’s most essential public services.
