musical direction by Jennifer Palminteri, choreography by Beth Slater, and orchestra direction by Kevin Pike, who marked his 24th consecutive production in his final year as a Lindenhurst band director. The show featured standout performances from Cassandra Herrador as Velma Kelly, Keira Donohue
as Roxie Hart, Noah Witherspoon as Billy Flynn, and Addison Rega as Matron “Mama” Morton, among a talented ensemble cast of more than 40 students.
Chicago: Teen Edition follows the darkly comedic tale of Hart and Kelly as they navigate celebrity, crime, and the pursuit of
the spotlight. The student cast, crew, and pit orchestra spent months mastering the sharp choreography and demanding score, bringing the cynical energy of 1920s Chicago to life on stage.
“This show is a testament to the hard work of our cast, crew, and pit orchestra, who have collaborated to
build this cynical, beautiful, and vibrant world from the ground up,” Guida wrote in his director’s note.
“We are thrilled to finally share this ‘story of murder, greed, corruption, violence, exploitation, adultery, and treachery’ with you.”
The production also marked a milestone for
retiring band director Kevin Pike, who has led the pit orchestra for 24 consecutive musicals, as well as a final high school performance for numerous graduating seniors.

The Suffolk County “Senior of the Year” Award recognizes individuals from each of the eighteen legislative districts over the age of sixty who have enhanced the quality of life for senior residents in the County.
Suffolk County Legislator RJ Renna proudly chose to honor Lindenhurst resident Angela Petri and her decades of service and leadership to several community organizations throughout Suffolk County.
Angela has been an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst since 2001, serving as both President and Secretary, and has been involved with the Constantino Brumidi
Lodge #2211 Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, consistently contributing her time and leadership to support charitable and civic causes. In addition, she also held leadership roles as President and Vice President of the Donna D’Italia Lodge #2330 Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America when the group was in charter.
Through her volunteer work, Angela Petri has made a meaningful impact on the lives of older adults and families in her community. As chairperson for church pantries and the Town of Babylon Fall Drive-through the Kiwanis Club, she has helped organize donations, shop for supplies, and deliver food to those in need on a rotating basis. She has also supported fundraising efforts for organizations such as Cystic Fibrosis, Cooley’s Anemia, sightrelated causes, and scholarships, while helping bring joy to local seniors
by organizing events like holiday celebrations for the Rainbow Senior Center.
Angela Petri’s commitment to service is deeply rooted in her personal life experiences and devotion to family. One of eight children, she took on the responsibility of caring for her siblings at just sixteen years old after the loss of her parents, later earning her GED while raising her two sons. She is also a proud grandmother of five, and after losing her son Christopher to cancer last year, Angela Petri has continued to pour her compassion into helping others.
Said Legislator Renna: “Suffolk County values extraordinary actions that benefit residents of our community. As Angela Petri believes that community service is a way to make life better for those facing hardships; it is indeed fitting that she receives recognition as the 14th Legislative District’s 2026 Senior of the Year.”
The Lindenhurst Union Free School District recently honored student-artists Victoria Ogilvie, Abigail Scaccia, and Renee Guschel for their participation in the Suffolk County Art Leaders Association (SCALA) All-County and Senior Scholarship Show.
The three talented young women have consistently demonstrated their commitment to the District’s art program, participating for at least three of their four years in high school. They have taken full advantage of opportunities offered, including rigorous courses such as college ceramics,
college Sculpture, and AP 2D art.
• Victoria Ogilvie was recognized at the Senior Scholarship Exhibition for SCALA. She will attend Fordham University, majoring in Graphic Design.
• Abigail Scaccia was honored with a 3D Exhibition for SCALA and named an AllCounty Winner in the 3D category. She will attend Stony Brook University, majoring in Biology/Pre-Med.
• Renee Guschel was recognized with
a Mixed Media Exhibition for SCALA. She will attend the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York City, majoring in Illustration.
“These three extremely talented young women represent the best of what our art program strives to achieve,” said Director of Fine and Performing Arts Dr. Robert Lombardo. “Their dedication, creativity, and academic rigor have earned them well-deserved recognition, and we look forward to seeing their continued success.”

1901 At The Lindenhurst Historical Society’s Restored Long Island Railroad Depot And Freight House Museum Now Open For The 2026 Summer Season
Lindenhurst Museum Director Marianne Guglieri, Site Manager Ed “Skip” Meinhold, Lindenhurst Historical Society President Evie Sosna and Lindenhurst Village Deputy Mayor Maryann Weckerle have announced the earlier-thananticipated seasonal opening of the 1901 Restored LIRR Depot and Freight House Museum. When asked about the May 20, 2026, opening day, the Depot Museum’s Site Manager, Skip Meinhold, pointed to the community’s enthusiastic response at the recently refurbished Freight House’s March 28, 2026, sneak peek. Mr. Meinhold commented, “The overwhelming response we received regarding the entire site has inspired the Village and the Historical Society to undertake an earlier seasonal opening, giving visitors, train enthusiasts, and history buffs even more opportunity to tour the Depot, Freight House
and our circa 1958 ‘Hack’ railroad car.”
Credited as Long Island’s first railroad museum, the Depot and Freight House replicate the Lindenhurst stop on the Long Island Railroad, recalling its original location along East Hoffman Avenue, close to the grade crossing at North Wellwood Avenue. The exhibit displays artifacts, photos, and other memorabilia that celebrate the railroad’s contribution to Lindenhurst’s founding and subsequent development as the fourth-largest Village in New York State. Located at Irmisch Historic Park, in the heart of Lindenhurst Village and close to the Village’s vibrant downtown, visitors to the 1901 Restored Long Island Railroad Depot and Freight House Museum can journey back in time to experience what life was like in Lindenhurst at the turn of the last century; recalling that the Lindenhurst we know today, first known as Breslau, owes it’s beginning to the arrival of the railroad.
Ms. Guglieri recalled that while the Depot has been open to visitors since 1975, the Freight House has been open only intermittently.
“We sought to change that in 2024 when Lindenhurst Historical Society President Evie Sosna and I joined forces with Skip and a team of volunteers to turn our attention to the Hack and the Freight House,” said Museum Director Guglieri. “Our efforts, while generously underwritten by funding from the Village of Lindenhurst and with Suffolk County Omnibus funds, would not have been successful without the countless volunteer hours contributed by local craftsmen, historical society
members and dedicated residents,” said Lindenhurst Historical Society President Evie Sosna. “This project, spearheaded by the Lindenhurst Historical Society and supported by the Village of Lindenhurst and the Village’s Public Works force, resulted in a long-needed refurbishment and revitalization of both the Hack and the Freight House,” said Deputy Mayor Weckerle, “and the outcome speaks for itself.”
The two-year effort included a major cleanup, artifact reorganization,
storage improvements, cosmetic renovations, and site access improvements. With work completed earlier this year, visitors can more easily tour the “Hack” and the Freight House, where new exhibits regale Lindenhurst’s symbiotic connection to the railroad as well as celebrate Lindenhurst’s industrial heyday.
The 1901 Restored Long Island Railroad Depot and Freight House Museum, at South Broadway and South Third Street in Irmisch Historic Park, welcomes visitors every Wednesday,
Friday, and Saturday, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. through October 28th. Docents are on-site to guide and inform visitors. The Old Village Hall Museum, adjoining the 1901 Depot and Freight House at Irmisch Historic Park, is open year-round from 2 PM to 4 PM every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from June to the end of October and from November to May on Wednesdays and Saturdays. A group of Long Island parents turned grief into grace, one purple rock at a time, on April 29, Fentanyl Awareness Day, as they placed approximately 50 memorial rocks at Babylon Town Hall Park, located at 200 Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst.
Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer, town officials, and parents who have lost children to the opioid crisis gathered to read the names of the deceased and place the rocks beneath a memorial tree on the east side of the lake. Created through The Purple Rock Project, each rock bears the name and, in many cases, the photo of a loved one lost to opioid or fentanyl poisoning. The rocks represent individuals from Long Island, across New York State, and throughout the country, requested by families seeking a lasting tribute.
“I am grateful to the Town of Babylon for giving us this space to remember our loved ones,” said Purple Rock Project founder Carole Trottere. “It is our hope that those who pass by will pause to reflect on the magnitude of this loss and that it sparks meaningful conversations between parents and their children.”
“We have worked very hard over the years to raise awareness about the devastating impact of alcohol and drug addiction on families,” said Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer. “Our goal is to help ensure that other families do not have to endure the heartbreak experienced by those here today.”
