Six-year-old Laila Myrie recently released her first book, “Agent Laila and the Family Secret Mission,” which is now available on Amazon.
Laila, who says she loves reading and writing, was inspired to create the story after watching the movie “Spy Kids.” With support from her parents, she developed a creative adventure centered around a family of superheroes working together on a secret mission.
The young author proudly shared her accomplishment with her school community, even presenting autographing a copy of the book for her principal.
Despite already achieving this exciting milestone, Laila is not slowing down — she is already planning her next story. Laila’s creativity, imagination and enthusiasm for literacy

Babylon Town Board Honors Suffolk County Police Officers

McSweeney. “Their training, professionalism, teamwork, and ability to remain calm under pressure helped save the life of a four-year-old child. We are grateful for their service and proud to recognize their heroic actions on behalf of the residents of the Town of Babylon.”
The Town Board presented each officer with a proclamation recognizing their dedication to public service and their life-saving efforts.
Babylon Town Supervisor Rich Schaffer said the officers’ actions reflect the commitment and courage displayed by first responders every day.
“When a family faced one of the most frightening moments imaginable, these officers answered the call and made a difference,” Schaffer said. “Their quick actions and unwavering commitment to protecting our residents exemplify the highest standards of public service.”
The recognition ceremony served as a reminder of the critical role first responders play in safeguarding the community and highlighted the successful collaboration between law enforcement and emergency medical personnel during lifethreatening emergencies.
FourLeaf Air Show And Fireworks At Jones Beach To Celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary
FourLeaf Federal Credit Union and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation are proud to announce the 2026 FourLeaf Air Show and Fireworks at Jones Beach, a three-day celebration of America’s 250th anniversary taking place over the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
The celebration will begin on Saturday, July 4, with the FourLeaf America 250 Fireworks at Jones Beach, followed by the FourLeaf Air Show on Sunday, July 5 and Monday, July 6. Together, the events will create one of New York State’s signature Semiquincentennial celebrations, bringing hundreds of thousands of visitors to Jones Beach for a weekend honoring the nation’s history, military service and spirit of independence.
As announced by Governor Kathy Hochul as part of New York State’s America 250 commemoration, the special holiday weekend will combine two of Long Island’s most anticipated summer traditions - the FourLeaf Air Show at Jones Beach, one of the nation’s most preeminent air shows and a cherished Long Island institution, and a spectacular beachfront fireworks display - for a once in a generation celebration.
The FourLeaf America 250 Fireworks on July 4 will feature a 25-minute fireworks display by Garden State Fireworks beginning at 9:30 p.m. Spectators will enjoy vibrant colors and a musical array of patriotic songs. WALK 97.5 FM and KJOY-98.3 will also offer listeners a live simulcast of the show.
The celebration continues with a truly extraordinary international salute to America’s 250th anniversary at the FourLeaf Air Show on July 5 and 6. Returning to Long Island for their 11th headliner performance, the
U.S. Navy Blue Angels will be joined by distinguished military demonstration teams from Canada and the United Kingdom. This historic international collaboration will create a display unlike anything previously seen at Jones Beach and one of the most distinctive air show lineups ever presented in the United States.
The 2026 lineup includes the first-ever New York appearance of the Royal Air Force Red Arrows, one of the world’s most renowned aerial demonstration teams, and the return of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds to Long Island for the first time since 2018. Also joining the celebration from the United Kingdom will be the British Army Parachute Display Team – Red Devils. Additional U.S. military performers include the United States Army Golden Knights, the 106th Rescue Wing, and the 105th Airlift Wing featuring the C-17 Globemaster III flyover.
“The 2026 FourLeaf Air Show at Jones Beach will be one of the most memorable events in our history as we celebrate America’s 250th anniversary right here on Long Island,” said Linda Armyn, President and CEO of FourLeaf Federal Credit Union. “From the Blue Angels soaring overhead to the fireworks over Jones

Civilian teams set to perform include current reigning Air Masters Cup Series champion and current Sky Grand Prix Champion, Aarron Deliu; the American Airpower Museum Warbirds; and the Farmingdale State College Flying Rams.
“This special Fourth of July weekend will transform Jones Beach into one of New York’s signature destinations for America’s Semiquincentennial celebration,” said George Gorman, Regional Director of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. “With the Blue Angels returning, international performers joining the lineup, and our annual fireworks spectacular lighting up the shoreline, these will be the perfect events for families to celebrate our country’s history at one of Long Island’s most iconic locations.”

from Jones Beach and surrounding areas.

Watermelon is a refreshing option on hot days. It’s ideal sliced and served, or can be included in fruit salads, smoothies, or even “spiked” cocktails. The key to a tasty watermelon is knowing how to pick one that is ripe while serving watermelon comes down to

• Choose a watermelon that has a firm, symmetrical shape. Avoid melons with bumps, dents, or cuts.
• Watermelons should be relatively heavy. They’re 92 percent water, and that juiciness should be reflected in a substantial weight for the melon’s size.
• Watermelon.org advises looking for a creamy yellow spot on the underside of the watermelon. This is
called the “ground spot.” It indicates where the melon sat on the ground and ripened in the sun. Once cut from the vine, a watermelon has about three to four weeks to be consumed.
• All parts of the watermelon are edible, including the seeds and rind. The rind can be pickled or cut up to use in stir-fry dishes.
When bringing watermelon to an event, it is a courtesy to bring it already sliced or cut up. This ensures the host or hostess does not have to tackle what can sometimes be a chore. Here are three techniques to cut a watermelon easily:
Cubes
1. Cut both ends off of the watermelon.
2. Stand the watermelon on one sliced end. Use the knife to slice down and cut off the rind.
3. After removing the
rind from all sides of the melon, cut into discs about 1⁄2-inch in thickness.
4. Then cut those discs into cubes.
Slices
1. Cut the watermelon in half lengthwise.
2. Take one cut half and
place it cut-side down.
3. Cut the watermelon into slices.
4. Repeat for the other cut half.
Strips
1. Cut the watermelon as you would with the slices. Rather than leaving it in large slices, turn the watermelon and cut the same size slices in the opposite direction. This creates strips that are easy for kids to grab and maneuver.
