Back by popular demand, the Lindenhurst Historical Society is hosting its second annual Televised Night at the Races, Saturday June 13, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Fireman’s Memorial Pavilion, 555 Heling Blvd., Lindenhurst. All proceeds will benefit the Lindenhurst Historical Society’s on-going stewardship of the Village’s three museums; the 1901 Restored LIRR Depot and Freight House Museum, the Old Village Hall Museum and the Lindenhurst Historical House Museum. Lindenhurst VFW Wade-Burns Post 7279 Celebrates 80th Anniversary
The Lindenhurst Veterans of Foreign Wars Wade-Burns Post 7279 recently celebrated its 80th anniversary with an Open House event that included a special ceremony honoring the Post, its Past Commander Thomas A. Kelly, and the Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst’s “Hometown Heroes” Program.
On May 18, 1946, a group of 50 local overseas combat veterans established the Lindenhurst VFW WadeBurns Post 7279. The Post was proudly named in honor and memory of Lindenhurst servicemen United States Army Corporal John M. “Jack” Wade and United States Navy Seaman First Class Edward J. Burns, who made the ultimate sacrifice during World War II.
Over the last 80 years, Wade-Burns Post 7279 has played a vital role in preserving the memory and sacrifices of America’s veterans through the observance of Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and other
commemorative ceremonies within the Lindenhurst community. The Post has also been a steadfast supporter of veterans, youth organizations, civic initiatives, and charitable causes, including assisting residents and families affected by Hurricane Sandy.
In September 2019, the Post hall, located on North Delaware Avenue, suffered a devastating fire that forced it to close its doors. With assistance from the Village of Lindenhurst and the Town of Babylon, the hall was able to reopen in 2024.
In celebration of its 80th anniversary, the Post held an Open House welcoming the public to enjoy light refreshments while exploring the history of the VFW and viewing the recently renovated hall. The celebration also included a special ceremony recognizing Vietnam veteran Thomas A. Kelly for his five years of dedicated service as Post Commander
(2019–2025) during the hall’s rebuilding effort, as well as the Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst’s “Hometown Heroes” Banner Program for its inspired implementation and their continued commitment to this patriotic initiative, which has raised and donated more than $200,000 to veterans organizations.
The ceremony also
featured patriotic song selections performed by local musicians Gerry Ferretti and George Formes, as well as a brief history of the founding of the Post presented by Village Historian Anna Jaeger.

Hospital Association Offers $2,000 Scholarship
The Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council (NSHC) announces a $2,000 scholarship for college juniors/seniors or post graduate students who are studying Journalism, Marketing/ Communications, or Healthcare Administration.
(The scholarship is not for clinical-based study.)
The Ann Marie Brown Memorial Scholarship honors the late Ann Marie Brown, who served as vice president for government and public relations for the Hospital Council from 1983 to 1993. The scholarship is administered by the Hospital Council’s Communications Committee.

death nationwide among young children, and I encourage all parents and guardians to hear our plea and to be safe on and around the water this summer. Never leave a child unobserved around water.”
Here are some measures you can take to keep your child safe:
While Boating
• Keep weak and nonswimmers in Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) while on docks and marinas.
• It is important to remember that swimming aids and water toys such as water wings and inflatable rings, do not prevent drowning.
• Always wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved PFD while boating. Federal law requires that when a vessel is underway, children under 13 years of age must wear their life jacket.
• Choose a life jacket that is right for your child’s weight and water activity. Make sure life jackets are the right fit for your child.
• For younger children, choose a PFD with both a collar for head support and a strap between the legs.
• Your growing child will go through three different youth life jacket
sizes before they reach the adult sizes:
• Infant/baby life Jacketsunder 30lbs
• Toddler life jackets - 3050 Ibs
• Youth life jackets - 50-90 Ibs
• Adult life jackets - 90Ibs and over
In the Pool
• Keep basic life-saving equipment (a pole, rope and/or personal flotation
device) by the pool and know how to use them.
• Remove toys from the pool area when the pool it is not in use. Toys can attract young children into the pool.
• If a child is missing, check the pool first. Go to the edge of the pool and scan the entire pool top to bottom, as well as the surrounding pool area.

Half-Time: Why June Is The Perfect Month To Revisit Your 2026 Goals
In honor of our country’s upcoming BIG birthday, my quote this month comes from Ben Franklin, who once said, “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” I would add that “by failing to check your preparation, you might as well have never prepared at all.”
To millions of Americans, June is the unofficial halftime of the year. The first half is (almost) over, and the second half is about to begin. So, how are you doing with those goals you set back in January?
It doesn’t matter if you’re a CEO of a big corporation, a small business owner juggling everything yourself, a student in college, or a stayat-home mom managing a household that frankly runs like a corporation. You probably set goals at the start of this year; things in January that meant a lot to you. Well now it’s time to sit down, be honest with yourself, and take a look at where you are on the path to success in 2026.
Let’s start with what’s working. This part should feel good, so enjoy the good news. Which goals are you on track with or ahead of?

Polish Heritage Day Celebrated At The Village Square
Polonia of Long Island recently hosted their annual Polish Culture Heritage Day at Village Square Park in Lindenhurst. The event brought together community members and elected officials to celebrate the rich history, traditions, and contributions of the Polish-American community. The event recognized the importance of preserving Polish heritage and celebrating the cultural diversity that enriches the Lindenhurst community. Village officials thanked Polonia of Long Island for hosting the event and for their continued efforts to promote and share Polish culture throughout Long Island.
