Ciara Weisbecker Earns Girl Scout Gold Award
Ciara Weisbecker, a rising junior at Babylon JuniorSenior High School, has earned the prestigious Gold Award from Girl Scouts of Suffolk County for her community service project, “Connection Through Communication.”
An active member of both her community and Girl
Scouts of Suffolk County, Ciara developed the project to help ensure that students of all communication abilities can better express their wants and needs. She collaborated with Babylon School District Director of Student Services Mrs. Hagemeyer, along with Babylon SEPTA leaders
Mrs. Good and Mrs. Sawzyn, to create resources that support inclusive communication throughout the district.

School and Babylon Memorial Grade School. Each lanyard contains picture icons that can be used to help students who communicate differently express themselves more effectively.
In addition, Ciara provided every school in the Babylon School District with a “Calming Cart” stocked with sensory toys, fidget items, weighted toys, coloring materials, sensory binders, and other age-appropriate resources. The carts are designed to provide students with
readily accessible tools that promote self-regulation, communication, and emotional well-being.
Ciara’s dedication to leadership and service extends beyond her Gold Award project. She was named Girl Scout of the Month in November 2025, won the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County Light Show contest in December 2025, serves as a member of the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County Media Girls and Advisory Board, and was selected as a delegate to represent Girl Scouts of Suffolk County at this
year’s National Girl Scout Convention.
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement in Girl Scouting and recognizes girls who identify a community need, develop a sustainable solution, and demonstrate exceptional leadership through projects that create lasting change.
Ciara’s “Connection Through Communication” project will continue to benefit Babylon students for years to come by fostering greater inclusion and accessibility throughout the school district.
External Diploma Program
The National External Diploma Program offers adults 21 and over, the opportunity to receive credit for their life experiences, and earn a high school equivalency diploma without the challenge of taking lengthy timed examinations.
NEDP, is a competency based program for students who are unable to attend classes or who prefer to work at home. Successful candidates for NEDP include former ESL students, students who have been out of school for prolonged periods of time, or students who fare better without the structure of tests. This program is an alternative to other programs.
