Long Island Seniors Invited To “Yoga In The Garden” On July 30

The AFA Barbara Rabinowitz Education & Resource Center invites Long Island seniors to “Yoga in the Garden,” a free outdoor wellness program on July 30 at 11 a.m. at the Center, 149 Schleigel Blvd., Amityville. Participants should register by calling 631-223-4000. No prior yoga experience is necessary.

The hour-long program features simple, seated yoga poses and stretches designed to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Seated yoga helps improve flexibility, balance, strength, posture, relaxation, and overall wellness, while

encouraging social engagement.

The program is dementia-friendly, with therapists adapting movements and instructions to meet the needs of participants, including those living with dementia.

Senator Rhoads Proudly Recognizes

Senator Steve Rhoads recently visited Farmingdale High School to recognize the Varsity Cheerleading team for its outstanding achievement in capturing the New York State Class A Championship.

During the visit, Senator Rhoads presented each student-athlete with a New York State Senate Resolution, which was passed unanimously by the Senate, honoring the team for its remarkable accomplishment. The resolutions recognize the athletes’ determination, teamwork, discipline, and unwavering commitment to excellence that propelled them to the top and earned them the well-deserved state title.

Senator Rhoads also congratulated the team’s coaches for their leadership and commitment throughout the championship season. He thanked everyone who contributed to the team’s success and celebrated the lasting impact they have made on the Farmingdale community.

The Senator commends each member of the Farmingdale High School Varsity Cheerleading team for their relentless pursuit of excellence and wishes them continued success in all of their future endeavors.

“It is an honor to recognize these exceptional studentathletes for their hard work and dedication,” said Senator Rhoads. “Winning a state championship is a testament to countless hours of practice, perseverance, and teamwork. Summer Hazardous Material & Homeowners Cleanup Days

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Tom Hand announce the Town’s S.T.O.P. (Stop Throwing Out Pollutants) and Homeowners Cleanup Days for this summer, with dates scheduled for weekends in July and August. Residents can drop off materials at the Old Bethpage Solid Waste Disposal Complex, located at 101 Bethpage-Sweet Hollow Road in Old Bethpage.

Studies have shown that being physically active and making smart food choices while young can lead

to a reduced risk of developing many serious health conditions later in life, which can include diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, heart disease, and even certain cancers. Developing fitness skills early in life is a wise choice. Families can work together to help kids get on paths to better health and to become more active.

“Improperly disposing of products such as waste oil, oven cleaner or paint thinner could contaminate your water supply,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Anything poured on the ground or put into cesspools, storm drains, or recharge systems can work its way down to the aquifer or our waterways.”

Homeowners Cleanup

Day – Saturday, July 25th & Saturday, August 22nd from 8:30am – 4pm: collects non-hazardous waste only, including: air conditioners; all e-waste; campers; boats and boat trailers (proof of ownership required - oil, gas, other fluids and batteries removed); clean, broken concrete; large metal items; propane tanks and propane torches; tires; and yard waste.

“With the start of spring, many residents begin to clean

out their yards and may have large amounts of yard waste and other non-hazardous debris to dispose,” said Councilman Hand. “Residents can bring items such as used tires, fence posts, clean broken concrete or yard waste to our Homeowners Cleanup.”

Free Paper Shredding Services - Saturday, July 25th & Saturday, August 22nd from 8:30am – 4pm: provides residents an opportunity to destroy unwanted documents in a safe and secure manner. Residents only, no businesses, can bring up to four bankers’ boxes of paper to the shredding program.

Hope For The Warriors, Robert Half To Host Virtual Career Workshop

In honor of National Hire a Veteran Day, Hope For The Warriors will host a free virtual career workshop on July 23 with Robert Half to help veterans, service members, and military spouses navigate the civilian job market.

The second workshop of a four-part series, National Hire a Veteran Day, Employer Spotlight Panel, will be hosted on Thursday, July 23, at 11 a.m. EST.

Led by career coaches from Hope For The Warriors and Robert Half, the goal of the interactive workshop is to encourage participant discussion and to discuss the skills civilian companies seek in veteran candidates, how veterans can stand out in a competitive job market, common misconceptions — and how to overcome them.

Representatives from Forward Air, Caliber-Inc., and S&P Global. Employers and more will be on hand to provide hiring and

recruiting perspectives as part of the conversation.

Discussion topics may also include:

• What employers look for when hiring veterans and military spouses

• Translating military experience into civilian language

• Resume and applicant tracking system best practices

• Interview strategies

• Networking and building professional relationships

• AI in today’s job search

• Common hiring misconceptions

• Career readiness and standing out in a competitive job market

During registration, participants are invited to submit career and employment questions. The session is intended to be conversational rather than presentation-based, allowing attendees to engage directly with Hope

For The Warriors, Robert Half, and participating employer representatives.

As a part of Hope For The Warriors’ Warriors’ Compass transition program, the free, virtual career workshop series provides training to help prepare those in the military landscape for a job search in today’s civilian climate. The

workshops offer tools and tips, as well as opportunities to network with other service members, military spouses, and companies committed to hiring those with military backgrounds.

“The National Hire a Veteran Day, Employer Spotlight Panel workshop gives members of the military community direct

access to an interactive discussion with employers who understand the value of military experience and can speak to what companies are looking for in today’s hiring environment,” said Brian Papakie, director of transition services and life roles for Hope For The Warriors and a retired U.S. Marine. As the nation celebrates 250 years of military service and sacrifice, National Hire a Veteran Day provides a meaningful opportunity to recognize the continued contributions veterans make to today’s workforce and to encourage employers and job seekers to engage in open dialogue about successful career transitions.
