Selected from a competitive group of applicants, both students distinguished themselves through their outstanding leadership, academic achievement, and commitment to their school and community.
Jocelyne takes part in several school organizations including the STEP club, Mindfulness club, Yoga club, and Science National Honor Society, with experience from SUNY Farmingdale’s Saturday STEP program. She has been devoted to all of these commitments while excelling in academics and working a part-time job. Jocelyne plans to study Mechanical Engineering and wants to encourage more women to pursue careers in STEM.
Anne is heavily involved in numerous school activities while achieving academic excellence, including but not limited to National Honor Society, Robotics team, Rotary Youth Leadership, Chess Club, Global and Student Ambassadors, Marching Band, and Girls Tennis team. Anne plans to study Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Renewable Energy.

Town Of Babylon To Host 19th Annual Babylon Soldier Ride
The Town of Babylon will host its 19th Annual Babylon Soldier Ride on Thursday, July 23, beginning with a special opening ceremony at 9 a.m. at Babylon Town Hall in Lindenhurst. The ceremony will honor the wounded veterans participating in the ride and recognize the community members, organizations, and supporters who have helped make the annual event a success. Town officials, representatives from the Wounded Warrior Project, and local
community leaders will offer remarks before the riders begin their journey.
A highlight of this year’s ceremony will be the presentation of more than $200,000 to the Wounded Warrior Project—the largest donation in the history of the Babylon Soldier Ride. The event will also recognize the ride’s top fundraisers
and include a blessing of the riders.
For 19 years, the Town of Babylon has proudly partnered with the Wounded Warrior Project to host Babylon Soldier Ride, raising critical funds to support programs and services for wounded veterans. This year’s event marks a historic milestone,
with the Town presenting its largest donation ever— more than $200,000—to the organization. A portion of the proceeds will also benefit SkyHope, a Farmingdalebased nonprofit that provides free air transportation for military personnel, veterans and their families.
Babylon Soldier Ride continues to unite veterans, residents, businesses, first responders, and community organizations in support of those who have sacrificed in service to our nation.

District has named Omar Garcia as an assistant principal at Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School, effective July 1.
Garcia joins Copiague from the Hicksville Public Schools, where he served as a middle school and high school Spanish language teacher since 2018. He also held the position of summer school principal in Hicksville last school year.
“I look forward to serving this school community,” Garcia said. “I believe that strong relationships, open communication and collaboration are the foundation of student success, and I am excited to work with our students, families and staff to create an inclusive environment where every learner can thrive.”

The AFA Barbara Rabinowitz Education & Resource Center invites Long Island seniors to “Yoga in the Garden,” a free outdoor wellness program designed to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. The event takes place at the Center (149 Schleigel Boulevard, Amityville) on July 30 at 11 am. Those wishing to participate should register by calling the Center at 631-223-4000. No prior yoga experience is needed.
Participants in this hourlong program will perform a variety of simple, seated yoga poses and stretches as shown by the instructor.

Hope For The Warriors, Robert Half To Host Virtual Career Workshop For Military Community
In honor of National Hire a Veteran Day, Hope For The Warriors will host a free virtual career workshop on July 23 with Robert Half to help veterans, service members, and military spouses navigate the civilian job market.
The second workshop of a four-part series, National Hire a Veteran Day, Employer Spotlight Panel, will be hosted on Thursday, July 23, at 11 a.m. EST.
Led by career coaches from Hope For The Warriors and Robert Half, the goal of the interactive workshop is to encourage participant discussion and to discuss the skills civilian companies seek in veteran candidates, how veterans can stand out in a competitive job market, common misconceptions — and how to overcome them.
Representatives from Forward Air, Caliber-Inc., and S&P Global. Employers and more will be on hand to provide hiring and recruiting perspectives as part of the conversation.
Discussion topics may also include:
• What employers look for when hiring veterans and military spouses
• Translating military experience into civilian language
• Resume and applicant tracking system best practices
• Interview strategies
• Networking and building professional relationships
• AI in today’s job search
• Common hiring misconceptions

The Amityville Tide Class Of 2026 Sets Sail Into A New Era
Amityville Memorial High School’s Class of 2026 made history on June 27 as the first graduating class to carry the name of the Amityville Tide, marking a new chapter for the school community.
Graduates received their diplomas before family, friends, faculty and staff during the commencement ceremony. Valedictorian Cristian Chicas and salutatorian Elidi Laquidara reflected on perseverance, resilience and the opportunities that lie ahead, encouraging classmates to
pursue their dreams with confidence.
Principal Dr. John Cardone, Superintendent Dr. Gina Talbert and Class President Sage Stephens also addressed the graduates, praising the class for its accomplishments and emphasizing the values of resilience, courage and kindness.
The ceremony featured performances by the school band and choir, while Assistant Principals Dr. Maria Vineyard, Angelica Rodriguez and Mary Frances Hopkins recognized
students earning academic honors, including the New York State Seal of Biliteracy, AP Capstone Diplomas and those committing to service in the U.S. Armed Forces.
