The Town of Babylon proudly joined communities across the nation in celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, marking a historic milestone in the story of the United States. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Council 794 proudly hosted its Third Annual St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Fundraiser at Pino’s Wine Bar in Lindenhurst, bringing together residents, local businesses, and community leaders for another successful evening benefiting children and families in need.
The event was graciously hosted by Brother Knight Anthony Cucinella, owner of Pino’s Wine Bar, whose continued generosity has helped make the annual fundraiser a community tradition. Serving as Honorary Chairman was Lindenhurst Mayor Mike Lavorata, while Lindenhurst
GOP Chairman Joseph Barone returned as the event’s major sponsor, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to supporting charitable causes throughout the community.
Guests enjoyed an evening of food, fellowship, raffles, and fundraising, with all proceeds benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and its mission of ensuring that no family ever receives a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food.
Adding to the generosity of the evening, Nicole Sutch donated her winnings from the event’s 50/50 raffle back to the fundraiser, further increasing the total amount raised for St. Jude’s.

Jude fundraiser is another outstanding example of what can be accomplished when our local businesses, elected officials, community organizations, and residents come together for a common purpose,” said Grand Knight Patrick Corcoran.

His name might not have been the inspiration for America’s capital city, a state in the Pacific Northwest or countless locales across the nation, but Thomas Paine was a hugely influential figure in the formation of the United States. Born in England in 1737, Paine moved to Philadelphia in the early 1770s and soon wrote the pamphlet, Common Sense. According to the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, Paine argued against the British colonial system, asserting it was rooted in tyranny directed by the aristocracy and monarchy. That assessment led Paine to contend the colonies should sever their ties to England and establish a democratic government. The success of Paine’s work is due to various factors, including his writing style, which was clear and simple and thus digestible to the masses, a reader-friendly tone that many historians have noted helped to generate enthusiasm for the notion that the colonies should break apart from the British Empire. Lindenhurst Soccer Club Celebrates Season Finale
The Lindenhurst Soccer Club marked the conclusion of another successful season with its annual end-of-season picnic and a heartfelt field rededication ceremony at Shore Road Park, bringing together players, families, coaches, alumni, and community leaders to celebrate the organization’s longstanding impact on the community.
A highlight of the day was the rededication of the John A. Kennedy Memorial Soccer Field, honoring the legacy of John A. “Sean” Kennedy, widely recognized as a founding father of Lindenhurst Soccer.
Kennedy’s dedication and commitment helped establish a program that has positively influenced generations
of young athletes and families throughout the community.
The event also recognized the achievements of the next generation of Lindenhurst soccer players.
Several graduating seniors were awarded scholarships for their accomplishments both on and off the field, while intramural players received trophies in recognition of their hard work, sportsmanship, and dedication throughout the season.
Councilman Terence McSweeney attended the celebration and praised the organization for its decades of service to local youth.
“For nearly 55 years, the Lindenhurst Soccer Club has provided young people with opportunities to learn teamwork, discipline, and
leadership while creating lifelong friendships,” said Councilman McSweeney.

Town officials gathered alongside representatives from every level of government for a commemorativephotograph honoring America’s Semiquincentennial and reflecting on the principles that have guided the nation for two and a half centuries— faith, freedom, democracy, and the enduring belief that all people are created equal.
Councilman Terence McSweeney said the occasion served as a reminder of both the extraordinary blessings of American citizenship and the sacrifices that made those blessings possible.
“It was a tremendous honor to stand shoulder to shoulder with my colleagues from every level of government as we celebrated the 250th Birthday of the United States of America,” said McSweeney. “For 250 years, America has stood as the greatest beacon of freedom, opportunity, and hope the world has ever known. The good news is that balance is not reserved for people with perfect schedules or unlimited time. It is available to anyone willing to make a few important choices each day.
I learned this the hard way. For years, I treated rest as a reward rather than a requirement. I skipped meals or grabbed

whatever was convenient, and measured success by how busy I felt rather than how well I was doing. When I opened my company in early 2021, those habits caught up with me fast. The demands of being your own boss have a way of exposing every crack in your foundation. I realized that if I wanted the business to survive, I had to take better care of the person

Start with what you eat. Food is fuel, and the quality of what goes into your body directly affects how clearly you think, how steadily you work, and how well you handle stress. You do not need a complicated diet. Lean toward whole foods, cut back on processed snacks, and stay hydrated. These choices can have a meaningful impact in how you feel during the day.

make in living a balanced life. Get moving…in the right direction. During the day, give yourself permission to step away. As a business owner who often keeps long and unpredictable hours, I made it a rule to take breaks throughout the day, even when it felt unproductive. A tenminute walk around the block is not wasted time. It clears my head, lowers my blood pressure, and often leads to better thinking when I return. Running myself into the ground does not make me more productive. It makes me exhausted and harder to be around. And movement doesn’t require a gym membership. It simply means getting your body in motion, consistently.
Try putting the phone down. Perhaps the most underrated adjustment any of us can make right now is using our phones less. Social media and endless scrolling can make you anxious, outraged, and engaged. Logging off a little earlier each day is an act of quiet self-preservation. Balance is built one small decision at a time. Eat well, sleep enough, move your body, step outside, and be a little more intentional about where your attention goes. The world will remain chaotic. How you meet it each morning is entirely up to you. I’ll see you around town.

The American Academy of Dermatology recommends that parents avoid exposing babies younger than six months to the sun’s rays. Infants should be kept in the shade as much as possible and dressed in lightweight and long sleeves, pants, a wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses. The AAD also notes that, when possible, sunscreen use should be avoided in babies younger than six months. Children six months and older can use a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with a sunprotection factor (SPF) of 30 or higher. These sunscreens should be applied to all areas that are not covered by clothing, and reapplied approximately every two hours (or as often as the product label indicates). Ingredients such as zinc oxide or titanium dioxide may cause less irritation to the sensitive skin of children six months and older.
