The Town of Babylon proudly joined communities across the nation in celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, marking a historic milestone in the story of the United States. As part of the celebration, the Town joined millions of Americans in honoring 250 years of independence, sacrifice, patriotism, and freedom. Happy 250th Birthday, America!
Signature Premier Properties’ community giving initiative, Signature Cares, is collecting school supplies for its “Build A Backpack” drive. The initiative benefits Fiercely Leading Youth, Inc., a Bay Shore-based 501(c) (3) nonprofit dedicated to inspiring, empowering, and educating at-risk youth to become successful, productive contributors to society.
Signature Cares is asking the community to donate unfilled backpacks, notebooks, folders, writing and art supplies, and other classroom essentials before students head back to school this fall. Requested items include unfilled backpacks, lunch bags, pencils, pens, erasers, pencil boxes, colored pencils, crayons, markers, highlighters, rulers, spiral and composition notebooks,
loose leaf paper, tabbed dividers, scissors, glue sticks, tape, folders, threering binders, index cards, compasses, book covers, tissues, hand sanitizer, and combination locks.

The AFA Barbara Rabinowitz Education & Resource Center is hosting a free educational wellness program on July 23 to teach Long Island seniors how to focus on healthy, nutritious eating while making the most of every food dollar. “Healthy Eating on a Budget” takes place at 1 pm at the Center, located at 149 Schleigel Boulevard, Amityville. During the program, registered dietitian Christine McGuire, Director of Clinical Operations for the National Enrichment Group, will discuss practical meal planning strategies, smart grocery shopping techniques, and simple ways to stretch food dollars while maintaining a healthy diet. Attendees will learn how thoughtful planning, budgetfriendly food choices, and nutritious ingredients can
help maximize grocery budgets without sacrificing nutrition or flavor.
Good nutrition plays a vital role in healthy aging. For older adults, eating a well-balanced diet can help maintain strength and energy, support heart and bone health, preserve muscle mass, strengthen the immune system, and help manage chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Proper nutrition may also support brain health and overall cognitive wellness, making it an important part of maintaining independence and quality of life as we age.

The 67th annual commencement ceremony for the Walter G. O’Connell Copiague High School Class of 2026 was held on June 25 at the Suffolk Federal Credit Union Arena on the Grant Campus of Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood. Graduates entered to “Pomp and Circumstance” as family and friends celebrated the milestone.
Board of Education President Anthony S. Pepe encouraged graduates to build lives rooted in character, emphasizing

Dr. Kathleen Bannon inspired students to “have high hopes,” urging them to dream boldly, persevere and make a positive impact on their communities.
Salutatorian Darien Reyes encouraged classmates to follow their own paths, embrace new opportunities and continue growing, while valedictorian Krzysztof Krasnowski reminded graduates that they alone will shape their futures through the choices they make.
Principal Joseph Agosta reflected on the students’ 13-year journey and encouraged them to carry the values of empathy, integrity, perseverance and pride into the future while making a positive difference in their communities.

The Town of Babylon proudly joined communities across the nation in celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, marking a historic milestone in the story of the United States of America.
Town officials gathered alongside representatives from every level of government for a commemorative photograph honoring America’s Semiquincentennial and reflecting on the principles that have guided the nation for two and a half centuries— faith, freedom, democracy, and the enduring belief that all people are created equal.
Councilman Terence McSweeney said the occasion served as a reminder of both the extraordinary blessings of American citizenship and the sacrifices that made those blessings possible.
“It was a tremendous honor to stand shoulder to shoulder with my colleagues from every level of government as we celebrated the 250th Birthday of the United States of America,” said McSweeney. “For 250 years, America has stood as the greatest beacon of freedom, opportunity, and hope the world has ever known. The liberties we enjoy today were secured through the courage and sacrifice of generations of
patriots who placed love of country above self. On this historic anniversary, we honor our Founding Fathers, our veterans, our active-duty military, our first responders, and every American who works each day to strengthen this nation. We have been blessed to inherit the greatest country on Earth, and it is our solemn duty to preserve that legacy for our children and grandchildren.”
