Seven Bethpage Seniors Commit To Play College Lacrosse Seven Bethpage High School student-athletes from the Class of 2026 celebrated their college commitments during a signing ceremony on Nov. 12, surrounded by proud administrators, coaches and family members. The ceremony honored the following seniors as they prepare to continue their athletic and academic careers at the collegiate level: Christian Edwards (Mercy College), James LiPetri (Molloy University), Grace Miller (Loyola University), Caroline O’Connell (Stevens Institute of Technology), Chase Solliday (Long Island University), Joseph Traversa (Mercy College) and Luke Waxer (Bryant University). All seven students will play lacrosse for their respective colleges. The commitments reflect the dedication these student-athletes have shown both on the field and in the classroom throughout their high school careers. The Bethpage Union Free School District congratulates these seniors on their achievements and wishes them continued success as they embark on this exciting next chapter.

Football Cake Pops Makes 30 servings

These Football Cake Pops Make A Great Game Day Treat Football is a wildly popular sport throughout much of North America. That popularity kicks up a notch come January, when collegiate and professional players are battling it out in their respective playoffs with an end goal of winning a championship. Watch parties have become a game day tradition for millions of football fans, and it’s customary to provide some delicious food when hosting such get-togethers. Chicken wings and nachos might be must-have foods for adults come game day, but it’s important to provide something special for young fans as well. This year, playoff party hosts can whip up these tasty “Football Cake Pops” from Lines+Angles for young fans.

Directions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Lightly butter and flour two 8- or 9-inch round cake pans. 2. In the bowl of your stand mixer, sift or whisk together the cake flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the butter and half the buttermilk. Beat with the paddle attachment on a medium-low speed until combined and smooth, about 3 to 4 minutes. 3. In a medium sized bowl, with a fork, whisk together the eggs, egg whites, the rest of the buttermilk, and the vanilla to combine, just until eggs are broken up. Add the egg mixture to the batter in 3 additions, mixing on medium speed for 2 minutes after each addition, being sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl frequently. 4. Divide the batter evenly between the two pans, and bake on the middle rack of the oven for 35 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick or skewer inserted into the center comes out clean. Let cool in pans until they are cool to the touch, then turn out of pans and cool completely on wire racks. 5. Make sure the cakes are completely cool before you attempt the cake pops, otherwise your frosting will melt and you may have some trouble rolling intact balls. 6. Put your baked cake in a large mixing bowl. Use your hands to crumble the entire cake. Add about half of the chocolate frosting to the crumbled cake. The frosting is what acts as a glue to hold the cake balls together. Use your hands to mix the frosting evenly throughout the crumbled cake mix until the cake mix is well moistened. Your cake mix should be moist enough to shape into a large mound and keep its shape.

7. Roll your cake mix into 11⁄2-inch, football-shaped cake balls using the palms of your hands. You should be able to get 30 to 35 football-shaped balls from a single batch of cake mix. 8. To prepare the chocolate shell, pour milk chocolate into a microwave-safe bowl and melt on 50 percent power for 4 minutes, or more time if necessary. 9. Pull out your melted milk chocolate and stir thoroughly with a spoon until completely smooth. Once smooth, add shortening to the chocolate to thin out the consistency a bit. Stir thoroughly again. 10. Take a candy stick and dip into the chocolate about 1 inch and place it into the center of your cake ball on the top. This will act as a glue keeping your cake pop and stick attached. Continue for all cake pops. Wait 10 minutes for the chocolate to harden on the stick and on the cake pop. 11. Now you are ready to coat your cake pops in the chocolate. Place the pop in the chocolate at a sideways angle with one hand. Using the other hand, spoon the chocolate mixture all around the pop. Try to do this as quickly as possible before the chocolate begins to harden and get lumpy. Once you have evenly coated the pop, gently tap the stick on the side of the bowl to get off any excess chocolate that would drip. Once the chocolate shell hardens, decorate the football pops with grip marks using the white icing. Let the icing dry and serve at room temperature.

Athletes Helping Athletes Program Launches At Charles Campagne Elementary School Bethpage High School athletes returned to their elementary school roots on Dec. 5, bringing mentorship and inspiration to fifth graders at Charles Campagne School through the Athletes Helping Athletes program. The program creates a unique full-circle moment as high school students mentor young athletes at the very schools where their own educational journeys began. All of the Athletes Helping Athletes mentors at Charles Campagne are former CCS students themselves, establishing an immediate connection and relatability with their fifthgrade mentees. The Athletes Helping Athletes initiative will extend beyond Charles Campagne to include Kramer Lane and Central Boulevard elementary schools as well, with each location staffed by Bethpage

High School students who attended those respective schools. The high school mentors, ranging from grades 10 through 12, aren’t just any volunteers. They undergo a rigorous selection process and receive specialized training from Adelphi University’s sports management program to ensure they’re well-prepared for their mentoring roles. During the first session at CCS, mentors focused on building genuine connections with their mentees while establishing a theme of personal growth through athletics. Fifth graders were divided into small groups, each guided by two high school mentors who shared personal stories of overcoming challenges through sports and demonstrating good sportsmanship both on and off the field or court. The mentors positioned

themselves as accessible resources for advice and guidance, particularly as the fifth graders prepare for their transitions to middle and high school. Icebreaker activities helped break down initial barriers and set an

enthusiastic, positive tone for the program ahead. Throughout the session, mentors emphasized that athletics serves as more than just competition – it’s a vehicle for personal and social development, and

most importantly, it should be enjoyable. The inaugural mentoring session concluded with fifth graders feeling inspired and energized about their journeys in both athletics and education. With two

more sessions scheduled, both mentors and mentees are eager to continue building these meaningful relationships while exploring topics designed to support the young students’ growth and development.

Town Outdoor Ice Skating Rinks Open For The Season

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Andrew Monteleone announce that the Town’s outdoor ice skating rinks at Marjorie R. Post and Syosset-Woodbury Community Parks have officially opened for the season, and remain open through Sunday, March 1st. “Ice skating is a fun activity for families and residents of all ages to

enjoy, especially during the holiday season. The Town’s outdoor ice rinks provide the perfect setting to take in the wonderful winter atmosphere,” said Councilman Monteleone. Public Skating Sessions are available at both outdoor rinks. For residents wishing to take advantage of ice skating but do not wish to be outdoors, the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center is open

year-round and is located at 1001 Stewart Ave. in Bethpage. Indoor skating is open to the public seven days a week, with special extended hours on most holidays and school breaks. Recently, Senator Steve Rhoads rolled up his sleeves and joined the Bethpage Chamber of Commerce and local volunteers for a fall clean-up and holiday beautification event in downtown Bethpage, working together to refresh the community heading into the holiday season. Participants weeded, trimmed rose bushes, cleared older plantings, and added new seasonal flowers to brighten the business district. Senator Rhoads thanked the Chamber and all who came out to lend a hand, noting that the effort reflects the strong hometown pride and community spirit that define Bethpage and make its downtown a welcoming place for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.

Senator Steve Rhoads joined Legislator Rose Marie Walker and local partners for a Drug Take Back event in Bethpage, providing residents with a safe and convenient way to dispose of unused and expired medications. By the end of the event, 10 large bags of unwanted prescription drugs were collected, preventing them from being misused or entering the environment. Senator Rhoads thanked the Nassau County Police Department and all community members who stopped by, noting the importance of these efforts in promoting public health and keeping local neighborhoods safe.

81 Students Inducted Into Bethpage High School Science National Honor Society

Bethpage High School celebrated 81 new inductees into the Science National Honor Society during a ceremony on Dec. 3. Director of Science Chris Pollatos opened the ceremony with welcoming remarks that captured the essence of scientific discovery. “I like to think that science is magic, because that feeling when you’re watching a magic show, that awe, that wonder, that’s what science is,” Pollatos said. The ceremony featured

musical performances by honor society members, including a rendition of the National Anthem played by a saxophone quartet, followed by a piano solo performed by Diya Bebin. Adviser Michelle Maio and chapter president Ben Maciel-Seidman also addressed the audience. To qualify for membership, students must be juniors or seniors currently enrolled in a Regentslevel or AP science course and have completed at least two years of

high school Regentslevel science courses. Members maintain a minimum science GPA of 90% and an overall scholastic average of 85%. Beyond academics, inductees demonstrate exemplary behavior, serve as role models for underclassmen and participate in chapter activities that extend beyond the classroom. The ceremony’s centerpiece was the candle lighting performed by the chapter’s five officers. Each officer spoke about one of the honor society’s

five pillars – scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship – before lighting their candle. New inductees then recited the oath of membership and received glow sticks, which they activated simultaneously. The glowing lights symbolized their commitment to illuminating the world of science for others through their own chemical reaction. Bethpage congratulates all the new inductees.

That commitment has paid off with an invitation to compete at the National High School Cheerleading Championship, scheduled to begin Jan. 30 at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Florida. Veterans Visit Central Boulevard To Thank Students For “Socks For Veterans” Drive Parascondola’s class to personally thank students for their generous donations to CBS’ “Socks for Veterans” collection. The successful drive gathered much-needed items to help keep local

Army Veteran And Bethpage High School Teacher Mr. Rob Verdi Shares His Military Experience With JFK Eighth Graders Mr. Rob Verdi, a social studies teacher at Bethpage High School and Army Reserve veteran, recently visited JFK Middle School to speak with eighth-grade students about his military service in recognition of Veterans Day. Mr. Verdi was teaching at Bethpage High School on Sept. 11, 2001, and the attacks that day changed the course of his life. Moved to serve his country in the wake of the tragedy, he enlisted in the Army Reserve and was eventually deployed overseas on active duty. During his presentation, he helped students understand the historical and political context of his service by discussing the complex dynamics in the Middle East that led to the rise of terrorism and the events of 9/11. The veteran shared his journey from basic training through deployment to Kuwait and Iraq, where he

served as a prison guard. He showed students digital photographs from his time overseas, offering them a glimpse into military life – from living quarters and work environments to the landscapes and conditions soldiers face daily. His stories about life on base and the responsibilities of his role kept students engaged throughout the presentation. Following his talk, Mr. Verdi answered questions from students, openly discussing his experiences and reflections on military service. His willingness to share both the challenges and rewards of serving provided students with an authentic perspective on dedication to country. Zesty Wings Make A Perfect Playoff Party Palate Pleaser Football fans know there’s nothing quite like the playoffs. Whether your passion rests with college football or the action on the professional gridiron, there’s plenty of exciting football to watch in the early weeks of winter. When hosting a game watch party at home, certain culinary staples, including chicken wings, need to make an appearance. The National Football League (NFL) was formed in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association (APFA). The firstever NFL game was played at Triangle Park in Dayton, Ohio, on October 3, 1920. BETHPAGE WATER DISTRICT STRENGTHENING TREATMENT, INFRASTRUCTURE & WATER QUALITY FOR THE NEW YEAR Happy new year to all our Bethpage residents. As we begin 2026, the Bethpage Water District is proud to share important progress on projects that strengthen our treatment capabilities and improve system reliability. In December our new ISEP system for nitrate and perchlorate began startup, adding another advanced layer of protection to meet evolving water-quality standards. Combined with the installation of Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) system at Plant No. 1, all District wells are fully equipped with the highest level of water treat technology to remove 1,4-dioxane. Plant No. 1 will remain our major priority and is on track to become our most advanced facility throughout the District. Once construction is completed and all treatment systems - ISEP, Packed Tower Aeration, AOP and Granular Activated Carbon - come online by spring 2026, Plant No. 1 will significantly enhance our long-term water quality and operational flexibility. We also completed approximately 1.4 miles of water main replacement along Sherman and Harrison Avenues, improving reliability and pressure throughout the system. Additional upgrades are underway, including recoating the Adams Avenue elevated tank and advancing Phase 2 of the North-South transmission main to strengthen distribution. We remain steadfast and committed to delivering high-quality, reliable drinking water to every home and business in Bethpage for 2026... and beyond. Cheers to a bright year ahead!

Bethpage HS Launches Partnership With Northwell’s MedVoyage Program Bethpage High School recently embarked on a new healthcare education initiative as 42 juniors and seniors attended an introductory orientation for Northwell Health’s MedVoyage program. Brian Aquart and Shabna Syed from Northwell’s Center for Learning and Innovation led the session, marking the official launch of the district’s participation in the immersive career exploration opportunity. Now it its third year, MedVoyage provides students with hands-on exposure to healthcare careers while connecting them directly with professionals throughout Northwell’s health system. Over the course of the seven-month program, Bethpage students will visit Plainview and Syosset Hospitals one to two

times per month, along with other key Northwell facilities including the Center for Emergency Services, Core Laboratories, the Center for Learning & Innovation and the Institute for Nursing. During these visits, students will participate in guided tours, engage with healthcare professionals, and gain firsthand insight into the daily operations of one of the region’s largest health systems. At yesterday’s orientation, students expressed particular interest in participating in medical simulations, hands-on experiences and exploring career paths in nursing and other healthcare fields.
