The Global Impact Of Martin Luther King, Jr. Americans pay homage to Martin Luther King, Jr. every January. While King was a renowned leader for his role in the American civil rights movement, his legacy extends beyond American borders. King began to speak about global issus after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964, visiting countries in west Africa and toured South America. King also spent a month in India, where he was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's use of nonviolence when protesting British rule. King spoke out against apartheid in South Africa and condemned the use of nuclear weapons against Japan during World War II. He also was a critic of the Vietnam War. As a Christian minister, King's first priority was to promote the teachings of Jesus Christ, and King felt an obligation to do God's work around the world.

The event takes place at the

AFA Barbara Rabinowitz Education and Resource Center (149 Schleigel Boulevard, Amityville) from 10 am to 2 pm. The event will provide the community with access to free health screenings,

educational resources, and opportunities to learn about maintaining brain and overall health. Offerings include: • Memory screenings to help identify early signs

of cognitive changes • Balance screenings to assess fall risk and mobility • Blood pressure screenings to support cardiovascular health

With the grant, Ms. Calvano’s will guide her adaptive art students in creating original batik designs on socks and t-shirts. This hands-on project will serve as a vehicle for community advocacy, education, and inclusion.
