The Islip School District is pleased to announce that six student-athletes signed national letters of intent on Nov. 10 to continue playing their sport at Division I and II colleges or universities next fall. Signing a national letter of intent is one of the most important highlights of a student-athlete’s career. Islip High School Principal Jon LaRochester said the students should be proud and spoke about being an athlete. “I wouldn’t be where I am today if not for my athletic experiences,” he said. “Through athletics you make bonds only an athlete understands. Be proud and be prepared to work.” In addition to saying that the district provided excellent experiences for the athletes to rely on, Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics John Sparacio also noted the role parents played in the success of their son or daughter. “This is a very exciting time in your lives, but the sacrifices your parents made also needs to be recognized,” he said. Autism FYI (AFYI) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting a safe environment, employment opportunities and independence for those on the Autism Spectrum. They recently opened their first office in the New York area in Wantagh. They are honored and delighted to have this new office and team to serve the New York Autism community for years to come! Autism FYI was founded by Dr. James Benjamin and his wife Joyce in 2014 to help advance awareness of the needs surrounding people with Autism. They accomplish this goal of theirs through a safety membership program offered by their organization that is called IRIS, as well as through training that creates community awareness about Autism and allows businesses to become “Autism Friendly Certified”, which allows them to create a more inclusive community for those with Autism. Their organization envisions a nation that utilizes its resources to assure that all of those living on the Autism Spectrum have a promising and equitable future; they are both locally and globally committed.

Christmas Masses and Ornament Blessings Returning to Catholic Cemeteries of Long Island

Catholic Cemeteries of Long Island has announced the return of its annual in-person Christmas Ornament Masses at – Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram and Queen of All Saints Cemetery in Central Islip. Masses will be held simultaneously at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 4. Christmas Ornament Masses are a tradition that Catholic Cemeteries of Long Island has offered families for decades. These Masses were cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, hundreds are expected to take part in Masses or at special, smaller Ornament Blessing Prayer Services offered conveniently during the week. Blessing services will take place at the following dates: Holy Rood: Wednesday through Friday, December 1st – 3rd, and Monday and Tuesday, December 6th – 7th; Holy Sepulchure:
