The Business Academy’s ﬁrm, VE Connected, is offering an online trade show and advertising website as its virtual business for 2014-2015. The students will conduct business with other Virtual Enterprises ﬁrms globally throughout the school year. “The students are very excited to be part of the Academy and are working together to promote their new business venture,” said Career Academy Director Israel Malinowitzer. “The students have already learned how to work as a team, and there is a real camaraderie among them.” Other upcoming events for the Business Academy include a written business plan competition in December, the business plan presentation in January and the Virtual Enterprises International annual trade show in New York City next April.

And just like that, the holiday season is upon us. It seems like just last week we were soaking up the last few rays of sun at the beach, our toes in the sand, the waves crashing ashore… and now we’re busy digging out boots and scarves and stocking up on all things pumpkin spice. Such is the circle of life, the cycle of seasons and the wonder of Mother Nature. Speaking of, “sources” claim this winter will be colder than normal, with

record snowfall yet again. Shocking. Really, do we need to start obsessing about the ﬁrst flake from now? It is what it is; it will be what it will be – the end. Deal with it. Or don’t, and hibernate until March. The mass hysteria is beyond maddening, especially since most meteorologists can’t seem to predict the next day’s forecast, let alone an entire season’s worth. Just sayin’. In the meantime, can we all just enjoy the cool, crisp air of Autumn? Play in the leaves, pick pumpkins and apples, check out a haunted

house or corn maze, create a unique Halloween costume, start planning your Thanksgiving menu ... Save the shovels for another day. For now, anyway. And as for those Christmas gift lists ... relax. There’s something about shopping for the holidays during the actual season, don’t you think? Those who are already ﬁnished are missing out on the true spirit in their rush to cross tasks off the to-do list. It’s not a race. Community residents lined Main Street and cheered as the Homecoming parade passed through town, led by Grand Marshal and high school economics teacher Charles Arciello. The parade featured handmade Disney-themed floats designed by the senior, junior, sophomore and freshmen classes.

The seniors’ float featured Genie from “Aladdin,” the juniors’ showcased Phineas and Ferb, the sophomores’ was Nemo and the freshman class created a replica of Lightning McQueen from “Cars.” As the parade rolled onto the grounds of the high school, crowds witnessed the unavailing of the brand new turf football ﬁeld. The excitement continued as the stands overlooking the football ﬁeld were ﬁlled with fans eager to cheer on their Buccaneers. They were not to be disappointed, as the Hauppauge Eagles proved to be no match for the hometown Bucs. As the crowd kept the energy level high, the game ended with victory for the Bucs, topping the Eagles 27-10 to improve to a perfect 6-0 record.

Students came to school dressed in pink as East Islip’s volleyball teams held their annual Dig Pink fundraiser on October 15th in honor of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

East Islip High School senior Steven Cinquemani has been named the ﬁrst Student of the Month by the East Islip Community Chamber, recognizing his internship success. Students like Cinquemani who are enrolled in the school’s Environment Green Career Academy are required to obtain internships as part of the Academy program. At a recent Board of Education meeting, Cinquemani was recognized by the Board members, district administration and two special guests – Chamber President Joseph Gabriel of Joseph Gabriel Architects and Vice President Russ Regan of

Rainbow International. Gabriel explained how Cinquemani’s internship at his architecture firm resulted in sketch and photorealistic renderings used as sales and design tools, as well as with plans filed with the Town of Hempstead. “Steven is a student with a thirst to learn,” said Gabriel, “and we gave him additional educational tools.” “Steven worked all summer for the firm and his experience in his CAD class at the high school really paid off,” said Career Academy Director Israel Malinowitzer, who had recommended him for the internship. “He was a natural, and Mr. Gabriel
