It doesn’t matter if you live in Islip, Patchogue, Shirley or Bellport, or even in North Shore communities, such as Huntington.” All collected food is sent to God’s Provisions, Inc, an organization that works with LI Cares. The organization distributes food to pantries throughout the South Shore. Dana Jahn, who runs God’s Provision added that, without the efforts of the community, the

organization would be extremely limited in its distribution. “St. Mark’s Islip has an almost 20-year relationship with God’s Provision,” said Father Simpson. “ In July, a parishioner asked if we could hold a food drive as long as it was held outside. We’ve been doing it every month since.” He continued, “But, as one parishioner pointed out, the holidays will be strange enough this year, and especially grim for some families. The weather will also get cold soon

and we don’t know what it will look like once we can’t hold these outdoors. That makes this one even more critically important.” The food drive is collecting nonperishable items such as pasta, rice, beans, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, mac and cheese, juice boxes, crackers, cookies, salt, pepper, cake/ brownie mixes, canned tuna and chicken, stuffing mix, soup, canned gravy, tomato sauce, condensed milk, pudding (boxed and not prepared) jello, apple sauce, canned vegetables

and fruit, kid-friendly treats, cleaning supplies, laundry supplies, toiletries, pet food, baby products, etc. Please don’t donate anything that can spoil. People don’t even need to get out of their cars if they don’t wish to, they can pop the trunk and volunteers will collect the donations. Masks and social distancing are required. Additionally, if anyone wants to volunteer, please call the St. Mark’s office at 631-581-4950 and ask for Irene.

THE GREAT PAL-O-MINE COIN CHALLENGE - Pal-O-Mine Equestrian, Inc. (www.pal-o-mine.org, Islandia, NY), a private, not for profit organization providing a comprehensive therapeutic equine program using horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for children and adults with disabilities, is giving Long Islanders the opportunity to address the nation’s coin shortage, while at the same time, helping raise funds for its vital programs. Here’s how it works. School students, employees, volunteers, staff and the general public can pick up designated coin jars at Pal-O-Mine and then collect change in all denominations. The jars can be returned to Pal-O-Mine in conjunction with one of its themed “collection days” whereby the jars dropped off, weighed and a contest held for the heaviest jar. There will be three opportunities to win special Pal-O-Mine prizes: one on Halloween Day, another during Thanksgiving week and the last one on New Year’s Day. Make Election Day Go Smoothly Be familiar with the candidates and issues on the ballot. Voting is a privilege and a responsibility, so voters should familiarize themselves with the candidates and issues on the ballot in the weeks leading up to Election Day. In addition to national or statewide candidates and issues, voters should learn about local issues that may have a more direct impact on their daily lives. The more voters learn about the candidates and issues in advance, the more quickly they can cast their votes and get to work or return home.

Election Day gives voters throughout the United States a chance to participate in their government. The right to vote is something to cherish, as many people across the globe do not get a chance to elect the officials who govern their countries. While Election Day is an exciting time, voters may find it frustrating if they do not take steps to ensure things go smoothly when they head to the polls. The following tips can help voters prepare for Election Day. Confirm your polling location. Polling locations may have changed since last year, and voters who have moved in the past 12 months may now have to vote in a new location. Voters can contact their local board of elections or visit www.Vote411.org to confirm the correct polling locations for them to cast their votes. Voters should learn the hours when the polls are open so they do not arrive too early or too late to vote. Bring photo identification. Voter identification laws vary by state, but voters who want to avoid hassles or holdups may be able to do so by bringing current photo identification with them to the polling place. While such identification is not necessarily a requirement, voters who bring along a driver’s license or state identification card may get in and out of the polling place more quickly than those who do not.

Voting on Election Day is a privilege that voters should not take lightly. Taking certain steps in the weeks ahead of Election Day can make it easier for voters to cast their ballots.

Confirm registration. Voters can confirm that they have registered to vote by contacting their local board of elections in advance of Election Day. Sometimes voters’ names may not appear on the registration list when they arrive to vote, even if they previously registered. Poll workers can help voters who find themselves in such situations. But voters who want to avoid such hassles on Election Day can confirm their registration beforehand.
