What Goes Into A Microwedding
FCA has served Long Islanders since 1884 and today its more than 40 programs fall into five big areas of need: Addiction Prevention, Treatment & Recovery Taking on addiction from every angle, beginning with prevention. Recovery support services are offered Islandwide with offices from Hempstead to Westhampton Beach. Children’s Mental Health & Wellness This division offers an array of services and supports designed to promote the health and wellness of children and their families. The services are for individuals up to 21 years of age who have or are at risk of developing a mental health diagnosis. Services are always free to clients, voluntary, family-driven, strength-based, and culturally competent, with location and scheduling tailored to each family’s needs. They also provide support for the families of individuals with mental and/ or behavioral health issues. Prevention & Family Support FCA’s prevention team provides critical services to at-risk children and families including a nursery co-op program,
alcohol and substance abuse and gun violence r e d u c t i o n program, and more, through collaboration, education, and advocacy. Residential Care FCA operates four residences that focus on quality care, seamless transitions and well-managed aftercare services for youth. Nassau Haven and Walkabout provide emergency shelter and longer term transitional housing for homeless, runaway and trafficked youth. Two other residences support children and young adults with serious emotional disturbances or mental health issues. Senior & Adult Services FCA believes that every senior deserves to live with dignity, safety and independence. FCA helps more than 10,000 seniors a year with meal deliveries, caregiver support, home visits for companionship, elder abuse prevention and advocacy. The number of people who turn to FCA for help is growing and with it, the need for donations to close gaps in government funding. FCA’s programs and services are greatly enhanced by the involvement of others, whether through donations of time or money, and welcome the help of all Long Islanders to further its mission. Couples who opt for microweddings may do so to save money, but also to avoid the effort and save the time required to plan more lavish affairs. It’s also likely not the place to try out new facial hair or heavy makeup. A couple unaccustomed to the way they look may be shy in front of the camera.
If the photographer does not have his or her own assistant, recruit someone who is assertive to help wrangle everyone for the family shots. Attempt to get family photos when family members are relaxed but not too far rumpled by dancing or having a good time.

HS Teacher Patsy Lester Competes On “Jeopardy!” East Islip High School Patsy Lester appeared Jan. 7, finishing in second champion Amy Schneider, social studies teacher and as a contestant on the place and winning $2,000. who at that time had won mock trial team coach “Jeopardy!” game show on Lester lost to the super- 28 times and earned over $1 million dollars. “I first tried out by taking the online contestant test back in March 2020 when we were on lockdown,” Lester said. “I took the test for fun. I’ve always been a ‘Jeopardy!’ fan but never expected to actually get on the show.” After she took the test, Lester was told she had a qualifying score. Over the next year, she was contacted multiple times to take more tests, be interviewed and play a practice game, all via Zoom. The show finally called Lester in August 2021 and asked her
to fly out to Los Angeles to appear on the show. “I thought it was a prank call at first,” Lester said. “Jeopardy!” films multiple shows per day, well in advance of the air dates, and on Lester’s filming day, hers was the last show. “I had watched the champion Amy plow through eight other contestants in four shows before mine filmed, so I was definitely feeling nervous,” she said. “The show itself goes so fast. I felt like I blinked my eyes and it was over. The hardest thing about ‘Jeopardy!’ is the buzzer timing. When the host reads the clue,
a person on set enables the signaling devices and big lights flash to let the contestants know they can ring in. If you hit the buzzer too soon, you get locked out and can’t ring in. Lester’s “Jeopardy!” experience definitely impacted her work as an educator. “It taught me something about teaching and coaching,” Lester said. “I now have firsthand experience of what it’s like to be under pressure and have my mind go blank on a fact I know. I’ve always been sympathetic to test anxiety, but now I really know what it’s like.”

MICALIZZI SIGNS WITH LIBERTY UNIVERSITY - East Islip High School senior Ella Micalizzi signed a national letter of intent to join the synchronized skating team at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. She plans to major in exercise science. Micalizzi has been a synchronized skater with Team Rinx since she was 9 years old, the last eight seasons on their highest level team, the Hurricanes. She is a two-time silver medalist at the Empire State Games in Lake Placid, both synchronized and individual, earning her a bid to compete in the State Games of America in Grand Rapids, Michigan. No Super Bowl Sunday Is Complete Without Chicken Wings Super Bowl LVI is Sunday, February 13, 2022. Few events generate as much enthusiasm among sports fans and non-sports fans as the Super Bowl. For sports fans who can’t wait to see the National Football League crown a new champion, the game itself is a must-watch event.
For those who aren’t fans of the game, Super Bowl Sunday is still a chance to chow down and socialize with friends and family. There’s no right or wrong way to watch the Super Bowl, but some might consider a Super Bowl soiree without chicken wings a major faux
pas. For those who want to avoid such a misstep, this recipe for “Virgil’s Smoked Chicken Wings With Blue Cheese Dip” from Neal Corman’s “Virgil’s Barbecue Road Trip Cookbook” (St. Martin’s Press) is sure to please.
Virgil’s Smoked Chicken Wings With Blue Cheese Dip Serves 4 Blue Cheese Dip 2 cups blue cheese crumbles, divided 1 cup mayonnaise 1⁄2 cup buttermilk 2 teaspoons hot sauce 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce 1⁄2 teaspoon kosher salt 1⁄4 cup finely chopped scallions 1⁄4 cup finely chopped celery

Marinade 1⁄2 cup vegetable oil 1⁄2 cup hot sauce 4 tablespoons Virgil’s Dry Rub (see below) 1. To make the dip, combine 1 cup of the blue cheese, mayonnaise, buttermilk, hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and salt in the bowl of a food processor and blend on low until smooth. 2. Remove to a medium mixing bowl and fold in the rest of the blue cheese, scallions and celery, being sure to break up the larger blue cheese crumbles. Place in a covered container and refrigerate overnight. 3. Mix all the marinade ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Place the wings in a large container with a lid and pour the mixture over the wings. Toss until the wings are thoroughly coated. Cover and refrigerate for 2 days. 4. Preheat the grill or smoker to 245 F. 5. Spread out the wings on a sheet pan and wipe away any excess marinade. Sprinkle liberally with the dry rub, coating the wings all over. 6. Position the wings on the grill away from the direct heat of the coals or burners, and add hickory to the smoker or hickory

New York Farm Bureau Seeking 2022 Scholarship Applicants New York high school seniors who are graduating and interested in pursuing a career in agriculture can apply for New York Farm Bureau’s Agricultural Youth Scholarship. Eligible students can use the financial award for college or advanced training in the skilled trades. Statewide winners can earn up to $3,000 towards their future education. The applicant or their family must be a New York Farm Bureau member, and the student must live and/or work a farm or be involved
with agriculture in the state. The student must also complete the application which includes writing an essay addressing what they value and stand for in agriculture and life and how these values have impacted their decision to pursue an agricultural career. Scoring will determine both county and district winners and may include a personal interview. Each district winner will receive $250 and then compete for one of two state scholarships worth $3,000 and $2,000, based on their submitted
applications. Applications must be submitted by March 1, 2022, and the judging will take place prior to April 20, 2022. The Story Of Cupid What would Valentine’s Day be without images of a golden-tressed boy armed with bow and arrows? The arrows represent feelings of love and desire, and they are aimed and cast at various individuals, causing them to fall deeply in love — or fall out of it. In Roman mythology, the boy is known as Cupid and is the son of Venus, the goddess of love. Portrayed as a cherubic and mischievous toddler, this magical boy was purported to be the matchmaker of gods and mortals alike. For students of Greek mythology, Cupid represents Eros, the Greek word for “desire.” He was the son of Aphrodite, Venus’ Hellenistic counterpart, and would play with the hearts of mortals and gods, sometimes leaving
mayhem in his wake. In Greek mythology, Eros was more teenager than bubbly baby, and capitalized on his status as a heartthrob rather than the cherubic status of Roman mythology, according to Richard Martin, a Stanford University professor. While Cupid may have been an adorable imp, some historians say Eros had a darker side, going so far as to describe him as calculating and sinister — forcing the wrong people into lovelorn matches. According to Museum Hack, while Cupid could make people fall in and out of love, he also was once in love himself. In this telling, Cupid is a young man when Venus learns that a mortal girl is born with such great beauty that others start to forget to worship Venus, adoring this girl
instead. Upset about the misdirected adoration toward this mortal, Venus asks Cupid to have the girl, Psyche, fall in love with a monster. Cupid agrees, but once he sees Psyche he “accidentally” hits himself with one of his own golden arrows and falls in love with Psyche. The resulting match does not prove easy, and through a series of unfortunate events, Psyche must prove her love to Cupid and accomplish various tasks to win back his heart. Eventually, Psyche does and achieves goddess status. Cupid has been portrayed both as a young man and child through Renaissance art and beyond. When Valentine’s Day became popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, Cupid was linked to Valentine’s
Day celebrations due to his matchmaking abilities. His popularity only continued in the early 20th century,
when Hallmark began to manufacture Valentine’s Day cards featuring Cupid. Cupid helped push
people together in ancient mythology, and he can even be the catalyst for modern day matchmaking as well.
