LEGISLATOR FLOTTERON HONORS EAST ISLIP EAGLE SCOUT - Legislator Steven J. Flotteron recognized Jason Richard Conzo of Troop 205 in Great River for earning the rank of Eagle Scout in a ceremony held at Timber Point Elementary School in East Islip. Jason demonstrated leadership with his service project by developing, planning and implementing the Musical Playgound at the Timber Point Elementary School in East Islip. He is a graduate of East Islip High School and is currently a freshman at Rowan University, Glassboro, NJ, where he is in Rohrer College of Business Accounting Program.
HOBY is an annual leadership seminar open to sophomore students across America, providing more than 12,000 students the opportunity to engage in leadership development activities and seminars around the country. As in previous years, the cost for East Islip’s winning student to attend the seminar will be covered
by a donation from the Lions Club of the Islips, whose representatives Randy Nissan and Eugene Petraitis visited the school to present Godbout with a check and their congratulations. “We thank the Lions Club for their generosity, and congratulate Liam on a job well done,” counselor Jennifer Salvaggio said.

First grade students in Justin Lollo’s class at Wing Elementary School in the Islip School District took a bite out of hunger this holiday season by making 184 bologna sandwiches for Bethany House, a shelter in Bay Shore. Mr. Lollo has been hosting the community service project since 2018, and he happily reported that the students broke the old record by
making 47 additional sandwiches this year. In addition to learning their core subjects, the first graders discussed and learned that there are people in the community who are struggling. “I want my students to realize that there are people who are less fortunate than we are, and they might find it difficult having enough money to obtain food,
clothing, etc.,” Mr. Lollo explained. “In preparing bologna sandwiches, students can feel a sense of giving and make a difference by supporting those who are less fortunate.” Mr. Lollo also thanks Grilli’s Gourmet Deli and Catering for donating the bologna for the project.
Board Of Education Celebrates High School Success Stories East Islip High School students’ academic and athletic successes were celebrated at a recent board of education meeting, led by Principal Mark Bernard. Junior Sarah Vasquez was honored for earning two College Board awards, for the National Indigenous Recognition Program and National Hispanic Recognition Program. These designations required Vasquez to earn a 3.5 or higher GPA and score in the top 10% in the state on the PSAT.
