The Boy Scouts of America Troop 46, Theodore Roosevelt Council, announced the completion of his Eagle Scout project which, “consisted of construction of a handicap accessible ramp and landing at the Center for Environmental Education and Discovery in Brookhaven, The project involved the removal of a cracked and broken brick staircase that posed a danger to the Center’s volunteers and students, the planting of a native flower garden alongside the new ramp and the pouring of a new concrete platform for wheelchair accessibility. Program Designed To Teach Long Islanders About The Beauty And Importance Of Butterflies In Our Environment, And Offer Families A Quiet Moment Of Remembrance

Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum, located in Farmingdale, recently hosted a series of butterfly release events as part of its ongoing community education program. The event was designed to teach attendees about the beauty and importance of butterflies within our environment, and offer a quiet, symbolic remembrance for those who have lost a loved one. “Butterflies are such an important part of our ecosystem. They help pollinate plants and simply make people happy,” said Fred Hoffmann, Grounds Supervisor, Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum. “We hope all our Pinelawn families enjoyed the butterflies and were able to take a moment to celebrate their loved ones surrounded in the

beauty of our grounds.” More than 100 people gathered at the Memorial Park and Arboretum for the interactive session. Individuals, couples, children, and grandchildren were able to create a butterfly craft and release Painted Lady butterflies among the park’s colorful, peaceful gardens. Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum also brought the event directly to the residents of Sunrise Senior Living. Residents and their families were invited to take part in two sessions, with one specially designed for memory care residents. These educational events are free of charge and open to the public. Community Invited To Help Feed Our Neighbors Throughout The Summer The food supply at food banks historically drops off in summertime. Coupled with the pandemic and its after-effects, replenishing the diminishing food supply at this time is even more urgent. Enter Power to Feed Long Island – a partnership between Island Harvest Food Bank and PSEG Long Island to rally the Long Island community to donate food to support neighbors facing food insecurity. Continuing through the end of September, there will be largescale collection drives at several local supermarkets, with a goal of restocking warehouse shelves with the equivalent of 21,000 nutritious meals (for 2021). At all locations, there will be a contactless drive-thru area, as well as collection bins, set up from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. as follows:

BUTTERFLY RELEASE - Pinelawn Memorial Park and Arboretum, located in Farmingdale, recently hosted over 100 families at its annual Butterfly Release where more than 400 Painted Lady Butterflies were set free in the 500-acre park and arboretum to help pollinate its flowering landscape, and offer a quiet, symbolic remembrance for those who have lost a loved one. Pinelawn’s Kristyn Hovanec, Marketing Manager and Fred Hoffmann, Grounds Supervisor, led the afternoon event by educating Long Islanders about the beauty and importance of butterflies. Residents Invited to Bring Chairs, Coolers to Free ‘Music Under the Stars’ Summer Concert Series at TOBAY Beach Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board announced that residents are reminded to bring chairs and coolers to the Summer Concert Series at TOBAY Beach. In

accordance with new CDC guidelines, the concerts will no longer be held in a drive-in fashion and residents can set up seating areas in the lot at TOBAY. The ‘Movies by Moonlight’ series, held at local

parks on Wednesdays this summer, will also be hosted in a traditional manner, inviting residents and families to bring chairs, blankets and coolers to enjoy the show. The 2021 summer

concert and movie series will feature a wide variety of genres ranging from country to rock, providing free family fun for all music lovers, as well as family-friendly movie selections. Admission is

open to Town residents beginning at 7 p.m. on a first-come, firstserved basis, and residency will be verified upon admission. Most concerts begin at 8 p.m., and movies begin at dusk. Performances
