Model Train Show Postponed Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola recently announced that Trainville Hobby Depot has postponed its Model Train Show scheduled for Saturday, November 21st and Sunday, November 22nd from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Hicksville Community Center, located at 28 West Carl Street in Hicksville. The Model Train Show has been rescheduled for the weekend of March 13-14, 2021 and includes several operating layouts from local clubs coordinated by Trainville Hobby Depot. Infrastructure improvements are underway in the Village. Work has started on new curbs, handicap ramps and crosswalks in the access driveways leading to Parking Lots 3 and 4, and will be installed on Main Street from Prospect Street to South Front Street. The Project is being done in phases from Prospect Street North on the East side of Main Street to South Front Street, then South from South Front Street to Prospect Street on the West side, and will be done in sections. Parking and traffic lane patterns are altered during the construction so please exercise caution. This project will be followed by complete repaving of Main Street from Grant Street to South Front Street. The two projects are funded by

agreements between the County and Village and they will be paid for by Nassau County, without any expense to the Village Taxpayers. Both projects are estimated to be completed in early to mid-November. According to Jason Schultz, of Savik and Murray, the Village of Farmingdale’s architecture firm, “We are doing mainly curb and handicap ramp improvements. We are also doing brick repair and tripping hazard repair as we work, whatever we find that needs to be addressed. The project should take a couple of more weeks, depending on the weather”. Separately, the Village has received an update on the repaving of Route 109, that preliminary work is underway for the repaving of Route 109. St. Kilian’s is proud to announce that a full service, handicap friendly elevator will be installed in the coming months. For the last 20 years St. Kilian’s, an “access lift” that only held a few people has been in use, and as the access

The full-service elevator will be a three-stop elevator, going from the ground Level, to the basement, and to the Sanctuary Worship area. This is terrific news and a further enhancement to what makes all aspects of our beloved Farmingdale Village special. The Meeting House of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers), at 99 Quaker Meeting House Road in Farmingdale Village, has a rich history that stretches back to 1698. Thomas Powell, along with other settlers of the Bethpage Purchase, started meeting to worship in private homes in that year. Known as the Bethpage Preparative Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends, the group built several meetinghouses over the years that were lost to fire. The current structure was moved across the road when Bethpage State Park was formed in the mid-1930’s and was re-built in 1992. The Quakers continue to meet today, holding Meeting for Worship every Sunday at 11 AM. All are welcome for silent worship for one hour. In need of repair,

Special One-Stop Passport Weekend To help residents looking to obtain or renew their passports, Oyster Bay Town Clerk Richard LaMarca announced that his office will offer a special onestop Passport Weekend on Saturday, November 21st and Sunday, November 22nd from 9am to 3pm at both Town Hall North in Oyster Bay and Town Hall South in Massapequa. “Are you looking to apply or renew your passport? You can visit Town Hall during Passport Weekend to receive free assistance in preparing your application, organizing your documents, obtaining a photo and submitting the documents for approval.” Requirements for applying for a passport include: • One 2x2 color photograph with a clear view of the applicant’s face against a plain white or light colored background. Photos will also be available for $10 at both Town Halls North and South during Passport Weekend. • Proof of U.S. Citizenship – Previously issued undamaged U.S. passport, certified birth certificate, Consular Report of Birth Abroad or Certification of Birth, Naturalization Certificate, or Certificate of Citizenship. • Proof of Identity – Naturalization Certificate, Valid Driver’s License (cannot have been issued or renewed in the last six months), Current

Pa l - O - M i n e Equestrian is a comprehensive therapeutic equine program that uses horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for individuals with disabilities and for other vulnerable populations that was founded by Lisa Gatti.

Spina Bifida, Genetic Disorders and Emotional Disturbances. They also offer group programs, individual lessons, c o r p o r a t e workshops and a program specifically designed for military members.

Lisa’s mother was a special education teacher and her father worked for a book publishing company. She was greatly influenced by both of their professions. She grew up knowing she loved horses, but really wanted to become a teacher and work with children in need. Her father would often send her books while she was away at college, and one day she received a book titled Palomino, by Danielle Steel. As she read through the pages, she became inspired by what was written: a ranch that was formed to help people through equine therapy. From that point on, she was certain that was exactly what she wanted to do with her life. Through persistence, hard work and a passion to serve others, Lisa Gatti opened Pal-O-Mine Equestrian in 1995 as a 501C(3) organization.

Pal-O-Mine is located at 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia. They grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week, and they continue to grow today! This organization sits on eight acres, with a 20-stall barn, handicapped accessible bathrooms, a new 100’ x 120’ indoor arena with state-of-theart footing and a rider hoisting system, and three outdoor riding arenas. They help an unbelievable amount of people and their work is truly heartwarming. Individuals of all ages are welcome to take part in the programs they offer. They operate with five full-time employees, 35 independent contractors and 80 volunteers a week. Their riding instructors have experience with the following diagnoses: Autism Spectrum Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder, Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Neurological Disorders, Cerebral Palsy, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Sclerosis, Down Syndrome,

Additionally, this organization is proud to now offer a Frontline Heroes Wellness Program. This program is complimentary for medical professionals and first responders, and can be virtual or in person. The well-known benefits of being in nature include reduced stress while providing a sense of calm, connection and solace. Sessions for this program may include reiki, mindfulness and horsemanship. Similar to many other organizations, volunteers are the backbone of Pal-OMine. Please note, all students, volunteers and staff must complete, sign and submit a Health Screening Questionnaire prior to coming to Pal-O-Mine.
