Autism FYI was founded by Dr. James Benjamin and his wife Joyce in 2014 to help advance awareness of the needs surrounding people with Autism. They accomplish this goal of theirs through a safety membership program offered by their organization that is called IRIS, as well as through training that creates community awareness about Autism and allows businesses to become “Autism Friendly Certiﬁed”, which allows them to create a more inclusive community for those with Autism.

In regards to their IRIS program, IRIS stands for Immediate Recognition Increases Safety. This program is free and anyone can register for at www. afyi-iris.org (parents or guardians can register and enroll their child or dependent as a member and those who are over 18 years can register and enroll themselves). The program is dedicated to the safety of those on the Autism Spectrum and those with Neurological or Brain Disorders. This includes those with Alzheimers, MS, Intellectual Development Disabilities, Down’s Syndrome, Brain Injury, PTSD and others. IRIS provides 24 hour access to members emergency information and contacts through their emergency hotline.

Another part of their IRIS program is their communication app, which is available for free in the app stores. This app contains picture language and emojis, so ﬁrst responders can communicate easily with the individual. It also contains their 24hour emergency hotline information and the 5 Keys To De-Escalation.
