Town Kicks Off Massive Toys for Tots Collection Drive Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Tom Hand have announced a massive, month long collection drive to help benefit needy families and less fortunate children throughout the community during the upcoming holiday season. In partnership with the United States Marine Corps, the Town of Oyster Bay will host a first-of-itskind ‘Cruise Thru Holiday Toy Drive’ at John Burns Park in Massapequa on Saturday, December 5th from 9am to 2pm (rain date for the event is Sunday, December 6th). In addition to the cruise thru holiday toy drive, collection boxes will also be located at multiple locations throughout the Town, ending December 14th. These unprecedented efforts will help collect new, unwrapped toys that will be used as gifts for needy children throughout the community. Supervisor Saladino said, “The Toys for Tots Drive has long been a huge success under the leadership of the U.S. Marine Corps, especially here in the Town of Oyster
Bay, as just last year we smashed the previous year’s record in our toy drive collection. This year’s drive is especially crucial, as due to the coronavirus global pandemic, many more families than normal are feeling an undue financial burden. I encourage all of our residents who are able to donate to this amazing cause, as the Toys for Tots Drive helps ensure that disadvantaged children within our community do not have to go the holiday season without something to bring them happiness.” The ‘Cruise Thru Holiday Toy Drive’ will provide residents an excellent way to contribute directly to the cause and help bring a smile to a child’s face this holiday season. Additionally, the event will feature an appearance by Santa Claus, and a drop box where kids can drop their letters to Santa off at. Letters dropped off with a legible name and return address will be answered by Santa before the holiday. “Toys for Tots sends a message of hope to less fortunate children who otherwise wouldn’t be receiving presents this
holiday season. MARINE TOYS FOR TOTS - The holiday season is the perfect time to reflect upon how fortunate we are. While many enjoy the seasonal festivities, there are others that are in need of assistance, food and support in our community and elsewhere. Largest ‘Cruise-Thru’ Toys for Tots Collection Drive
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Tom Hand recently announced a massive, first-of-its-kind ‘Cruise-Thru’ Toys for Tots Collection Drive will take place at John Burns Park in Massapequa on Saturday, December 5th from 9am to 2pm (rain date is Sunday, December 6th). In partnership with the United States Marine Corps, the Town of Oyster Bay is collecting toys to help families impacted by the COVID-19 economic crisis and those less fortunate
throughout the community during the upcoming holiday season. In addition to the ‘Cruise-Thru’, collection boxes are located at Town facilities through December 14th. Supervisor Saladino said, “The Toys for Tots Drive has long been a huge success under the leadership of the U.S. Marine Corps, especially here in the Town of Oyster Bay, as just last year we smashed the previous year’s record in our toy drive collection. This year’s drive is especially crucial, as due to the coronavirus global
pandemic, many more families than normal are feeling an undue financial burden. I encourage all of our residents who are able to donate to this amazing cause, as the Toys for Tots Drive helps ensure that disadvantaged children within our community do not have to go the holiday season without something to bring them happiness.” The ‘Cruise Thru Holiday Toy Drive’ will provide residents an excellent way to contribute directly to

Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Michele Johnson announces that residents seeking a lowimpact and enjoyable fitness activity are encouraged take part in the Town of Oyster Bay’s Yoga Classes, which will be held in January and February. Classes are co-ed and open to individuals 18 years of age or older. “The Town is proud to offer residents a variety of programs and services including these yoga classes which offer benefits to the mind, body and soul,” said Councilwoman Johnson. “Yoga builds strength, increases general flexibility and is considered a great stress reliever. All Kids Fair Was Virtual – And Is Now Available For Free The 10th annual All Kids Fair, which was postponed from its usual month of April to November 8, was virtual! This expo could not take place in its usual month due to COVID-19, but those who attended had a terrific time. This year’s All Kids Fair had a great lineup of virtual classes for the kids of all ages with some for the adults, too. Some of the many kids’ classes were: Disney Singalong, Soccer, two Floral Arranging classes, and Family Yoga. For the adults, there were classes on Essential Oils, Fidelis Care Information, and Pampering Pitstop. The platform that the event took place on will store the information for the next 27 days, so all are welcome to visit the platform and learn about the 35 exhibitors and their offerings and enjoy over half of the classes,
available on the site until December 8. Since families always enjoy our in-person petting zoo, this year there were virtual “live animal visits,” where farm animals such as sheep, goats and a minidonkey were the stars. In addition to being educational, the “visits” were highly entertaining. Another new addition to this year’s event were “coffee talks,” opportunities for parents to interact with others at the same stage of life, such as those with a child who is an infant, toddler, elementary age, middle school age, high school age, special needs, or gifted. All Kids Fair Director Barbara Kaplan said the time was right to pivot to an All Kids Fair virtual expo. “It was definitely not “just a Zoom event.’ It was a full-fledged virtual expo.
We incorporated many of the activities of our live events plus some new opportunities such as our “virtual live animal visits” and “coffee talks.” Families had a great time learning at our many classes about services and products available to them.” Repeat attendee David Rosenthal of Oceanside raved about the event. “My girls had a blast! The younger one loved looking at the animals [in the virtual petting zoo], and my older one liked Captain America and the ballet class. They asked if there will be another All Kids Fair next month!” There were several non-Long Island based businesses this year who enjoyed the opportunity to make their services available to Long Islanders virtually. Oyster Bay Town Councilman Lou Imbroto recently announced that residents who are interested in maintaining or improving their levels of fitness over the cold and stagnant winter months will be able to register for the Town’s popular Co-Ed Fitness Classes. Classes are offered to individuals 18 years of age or older. “The Town is pleased to once again be offering these excellent fitness programs, which provide a terrific outlet for our residents to exercise and stay in shape during the winter,” said Councilman Imbroto. “The Town’s Parks Department does a great job providing residents the opportunity to take advantage of these classes and stay physically active and engaged during the cold winter months. The Farmingdale Rotary Clubs are looking to help the Salvation Army in their yearly Effort for Donations. Both Rotary Clubs and the Salvation Army are committed to helping the community and are looking for Volunteers to man a few key spots on Main Street in Farmingdale; to Ring the Bell and help collect donations for one hour shifts during late November to mid-December. We hope everyone is safe and healthy and would like to remind everyone to continue to practice social distancing, wear a mask/face covering, wash your hands and follow the guidelines from Governor Cuomo, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino, as well as the CDC, and others. With the cold weather approaching and the holiday season upon us, it is vital to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and celebrate safely. Please avoid gatherings so we can get through this, hopefully without moving back into business closures and stay at home directives. It is important to remain calm, vaccines are forthcoming – and thank you for helping, “we are in this together.” County Executive Laura Curran recently announced a Restaurant Recovery Grant Program (RRGP) to provide a boost for approximately 300 grants to restaurants during the difficult winter months ahead. According to the announcement. “Grant funds are valued at $5,000 or $10,000, depending on their number of employees. The program is intended to support full-service restaurants, the industry hit hardest by the pandemic – during the winter months when outdoor dining is limited and as restaurants adjust to NY State’s COVID-19 safety restrictions and new mandates”. Restaurants can learn more details, begin applying on November 30, and get updates to the RRGP: www. nassaucountyny.gov/, www.nassaucountyny. gov/restaurantrecovery”.
