Advancement Area: For celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment with red, white and blue remembrance on the Farmingdale Village Green. WCF President Tina Diamond and club members Linda Kreussling (GFWC-NYS President), Vicky Impollonia, 2nd VP, and Dolores Cianciabella, NYS Committee Chair attended three GFWC conventions in 2 months: • GFWC International Convention in Atlanta, Ga •GFWC-NYS Convention in Albany • GFWC Middle Atlantic Regional Convention in Delaware They were very proud to report that WCF is an award-winning club on all levels which, in turn, inspires and motivates members to regenerate club goals of philanthropy, educational awards and making our community & world a better place for all, especially our children. On Sunday, September 19, the Village of Village of Farmingdale Cultural Arts Committee sponsored the 10th Annual Art in the Park, where local artists were celebrated as they showcased their many talents. Women’s Club of Farmingdale members were on hand to help organize and set up, including Fran Rotondo, Ingrid Hernandez and Val Thieke. Fran Rotondo was one of the many artists displaying her beautiful artwork. On Saturday, October 9, Vicky Impollonia, Chair of the Ways & Means Committee and her committee members, held a “Bake n Buy” Sale on the Farmingdale Village Green. Members and friends baked cookies, scones, biscotti, and breads, etc. to raise money for the club’s annual awards to deserving Farmingdale High School seniors who are planning to further their education
after high school. And the ladies working the table were pleasantly surprised when TOB Supervisor Joseph Saladino stopped by to lend his support, as well as a former Farmingdale High School WCF award recipient who again thanked the club for their community service. Sunday, October 17, was “Walk For A Cure” Day sponsored by the Junior League of the Women’s Club of Farmingdale. The GFWC-NYS President’s Special Project for 2020 - 2022 was selected by its President, Linda Kreussling, to raise awareness and encourage members to support Pancreatic Cancer Research. Kreussling, in addition to being GFWCNYS President, is also a member of the WCF and the Jr. League of the WCF. 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to pancreatic cancer research. The walk started at the Farmingdale Village Green and continued to Northside School and back. Through this sponsorship, the Jr. League of the WCF will be raising funds to donate and support Long Island’s Lustgarten Pancreatic Cancer Research Foundation, the nation’s largest private funder of pancreatic cancer research with over $165 million dollars donated to date. The Lustgarten Foundation’s mission is to cure pancreatic cancer by: a. Funding scientific and clinical research related to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of pancreatic cancer b. Providing research information and clinical support services to patients, caregivers and individuals at high risk c. Recently, the Women’s Club of Farmingdale (WCF) was very honored to be the recipient of the following GFWC-NYS awards (General Federation of Women’s Clubs). The club members continually brainstorm new programs and projects, as well as continuing to sponsor annual favorites. Many hours of volunteer service go into the making of a very successful club year despite Covid-19 restrictions. Listed below are the 2019-2020 awards: 1st Place - Short Story: Jasmine Lyons, granddaughter of WCF Treasurer, Catherine Sewell. 1st Place Education & Libraries: responding to a call to action made by 14-year-old Madeline Gross when she realized the need for recess backpacks and enlisted her grandmother’s women’s club to help. 82 backpacks were donated filled with chalk, jump ropes, bubbles and other items for 3rd graders to enjoy. 2nd Place - GFWC Signature Project: Domestic Violence & Prevention - For purchasing, donating and delivering 56 “Comfort Bags” to Madonna Heights Shelter for Abused Women & Children. 2nd Place - Membership Advancement Area: For the club’s “Pandemic Pal” Program where they reached out to members with phone calls, cards and a surprise celebration which provided a 50-yearmember with flowers, cookies and her GFWC gold pin and certificate. 2nd Place - Health & Wellness: For club’s “Pandemic Bingo” sessions in the Farmingdale Village gazebo. 3rd Place Communications & Public Relations Advancement Area: For the club’s use of articles for multiple sites and quality of articles. 3rd Place - WHRC

Model Train Show to Benefit Oyster Bay Railroad Museum Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola today announced that Trainville Hobby Depot will host a Model Train Show on Saturday, November 20th and Sunday, November 21st from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Hicksville Community Center, located at 28 West Carl Street in Hicksville. The Model Train Show includes operating model layouts
coordinated by Trainville Hobby Depot. Donations are being accepted at the exhibit to support the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum. “We are pleased to partner with Trainville Hobby Depot, who coordinates or participates in many hobby shows that benefit the fundraising efforts of a sponsoring organization,” said Councilman Labriola. “Assisting groups that not only bring a fun and

Several community events were held recently in downtown Farmingdale and enjoyed by hundreds of “Dalers” and others from the Long Island area. The Farmingdale Cultural Arts Committee sponsored “Shakespeare on the Green” with two performances (October 2 and 3) by Eastline Theatre of “Romeo and Juliet.” Attendees enjoyed the free theater performances of Romeo and Juliet and the nice fall weather. We look forward to additional theater performances On the Green in 2022! The Farmingdale Fire Department organized a successful Columbus Weekend Carnival, Fair and Parade. The weather held out for the majority of the weekend and many attendees enjoyed the activities – including newly added Magic Shows, Disney Characters, new rides, games, live music; and the street fair on Main Street with over 100 vendors. Congratulations to all at the Farmingdale Fire Department for their tremendous efforts. The Farmingdale Breakfast Rotary Club also held a fun, successful Doggie Parade and Fair On the Village Green during the Columbus weekend. Carol serves as a stellar example of the impact of positivity, and the audience was elated with the event - they couldn’t say enough good things about the impact of the event. Additional notable speakers at the event included: Lisa Mateo, an anchor for Bloomberg Radio, Father and son Mark X. Cronin and John Cronin of John’s Crazy Socks, among others. George Andriopoulos, Executive Producer, organizer, and licensee of TEDxFarmingdale, along with the curation team, held a phenomenal event, which can be viewed/heard on YouTube, http://tedxfarmingdale. com/2021-presenters. “Bringing the TEDx platform for the last three years to the place I call home has been an incredibly fulfilling experience,” Andriopoulos said. “I believe in Farmingdale, and I think it is the epicenter of culture, commerce

Daler’s Celebrate All-State Musicians
Seven Farmingdale High School musicians have been selected by the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) to perform in the 2021 AllState Music Conference. In addition, seven Dalers have been chosen as alternates. The All-State musicians are the top students from school music departments across New York. These musicians are among thousands of students who auditioned for the conference by participating in solo evaluations last spring. The All-State Conference will take place in Rochester from December 2-5. “The Farmingdale School District is most proud of our All-State musicians and alternates,” commented Mr. Greg Warnokowski, Director of Fine Arts. “Only the most talented and accomplished performers are chosen, which is why our music

The opening days of October brought with it a renewed sense of Farmingdale School District pride as the district kicked off its annual Spirit Week. The week-long festivities were marked by daily themes and events that brought students and faculty together to show their Daler pride. “We are a district full of creative, talented, intelligent, and driven students,” said
Superintendent Paul Defendini. “Spirit Week is a time where we can all come together and celebrate that.” The week started with Farmingdale students adding a pop of color with bright neon attire. On Wednesday, schools were filled with magic as students wore their favorite Disney apparel. Students had a rootin’tootin’ time wearing county gear on Thursday.
Spirit Week culminated with “Let’s Go, Dalers Friday,” in which students decked out had to toe in their best Farmingdale apparel to show their pride for their district. The pride displayed by this week’s events showed that being a Daler means having a lifelong support system and that once you’re a part of the Farmingdale family, you’re always a part of the Farmingdale family.

LaMarca Invites Residents To Properly License Their Dogs As Adoptions Grow
MY JERSEY, YOUR IMPACT - Farmingdale High School’s Athletic Department has kicked off a new game day tradition called “My Jersey, Your Impact.” Senior Varsity Captains select a teacher who has made an impact on them during their years at Farmingdale High School, then surprise them with a Dalers jersey that reads, “I made an impact on the life of an athlete.” Faculty members wear the jersey for the remainder of the school day and later attend the captain’s home game, cheering loudly from the sidelines.
With a large number of new adoptions taking place over the past year, Oyster Bay Town Clerk Richard LaMarca invites residents who have not done so already to utilize the Town Clerk’s Office to properly license their dog. In the Town of Oyster Bay, once a dog reaches four months of age, the owner is required by Town Code to obtain a dog license and verification tag. Licenses are valid for one year. Town Clerk LaMarca stated, “With the unfolding of the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been reports of large increases in the adoption rates of pets for companionship, especially dogs. If you have recently adopted a dog, now is the time to license it to ensure its safety and identification in case it gets lost! Each year, hundreds of beloved family dogs are lost because these animals do not have identification tags and cannot be identified and returned to
their owners. A dog license allows everyone to know your dog has a home, and also signals that your dog is up-to-date on its rabies shot. To put it simply: if you love your dog, license it! This simple act can only serve to protect our furry friends.” Dog licenses are issued to dogs four months of age or older for a 12 month period. The license must be renewed annually, and in order to license your dog, dog owners must provide the following minimum information: Name, residence address and phone number of owner Name, sex, approximate age, breed, color, markings and other identifying details of the dog Provide certification of spaying or neutering Proof of a valid rabies vaccination Town Clerk LaMarca noted that there is no fee for licensing any guide dog, hearing dog, service
dog, war dog, detection dog, or police dog. Licenses are non-transferable and in the event of a change in ownership of any dog, all licenses must be updated within 10 days of such change. Licensed dogs must wear an identification tag, affixed to its collar, provided by the Town Clerks office at the time of licensing. To obtain an application for a dog license, please visit the Town Clerk’s Office at Town Hall North in Oyster Bay or Town Hall South in Massapequa, or at the Town’s Animal Shelter, located at 150 Miller Place in Syosset. The license fee is $15 for an unneutered or unsprayed dog and $10 for a neutered or spayed dog. Fees for senior citizens are $5 with proof of age. (StatePoint) The Peace Corps, established in 1961, partners with communities abroad to develop sustainable solutions for the world’s most pressing challenges at the grassroots level. While all volunteers returned home in March of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the agency is working to return to service and is now actively recruiting volunteers of backgrounds historically underrepresented in the organization, including African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans and Asian-Americans. “As part of our mission, we seek to reflect the rich diversity of the United States abroad, bringing different perspectives and solutions to development issues in the countries we serve,” says Carol Spahn, acting director of the Peace Corps. “We also seek to create inclusion – a culture that encourages collaboration, flexibility and fairness; and leverages diversity so that all individuals are able to contribute to their full potential.” If you’re interested in Peace Corps service, here’s what to know. New Challenges While Peace Corps service is demanding for every volunteer, being from a diverse ethnic background can introduce additional challenges, according to those who have served. “I had to deal with
people’s expectations about Americans looking a certain way. About once a week I had to explain that Americans come from diverse backgrounds, and that I was just as much an American as any other Peace Corps volunteer,” says Neng Lee, a first-generation HmongAmerican who served as a health volunteer in the Kyrgyz Republic (Kyrgyzstan) from 2015 to 2017, and as a youth development volunteer from 2017 to 2019. Valuable Assets In other cases, a diverse background can be an advantage. “Integrating into Jamaican culture was easy due to the many similarities with my Mexican culture,” says Maria Elena Venegas Banulelos, a Spanish speaking, MexicanAmerican Peace Corps volunteer who served in Jamaica. “For instance, both Mexicans and Jamaicans are very religious, we enjoy a little spice in our food, and like to dress our best when in public. Both cultures love soccer, dancing and loud music. Also, the environments are similar in the structure of the homes and agricultural products, and both are home to the most humble people.” This sentiment is shared by other volunteers as well. “My color and my accent have not affected my volunteer work negatively,
instead this has allowed me to integrate well in my community, and people even call me ‘African,’” says Aboubakar Bodi, who was born in Togo and served in Jamaica. Bringing Skills Home Peace Corps service can be an emotionally rewarding experience and an effective way to develop the skills needed to make a difference in one’s community back home. It can also be a key stepping stone in one’s career. Volunteers serve for 27 months in education, health, agriculture and other sectors, and upon their return, they are able to usher innovative solutions to collective problems in U.S. communities. “I am very proud of having taught CPR and first aid to people in different villages in the Kyrgyz language.
