Alumni Association Game Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino is proud to announce that a special New York Rangers Alumni Association game will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 3rd at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center, located in Bethpage Community Park at 1000 Stewart Avenue. The benefit hockey game, which in the past

has included New York Rangers alumni Adam Graves, Ron Duguay, Colton Orr, Stephane Matteau, Rod Gilbert and many more, is part of the Rangers Assist Program Presented by Chase and supports youth hockey programs such as the one operated by the Town of Oyster Bay. “The Town of Oyster Bay’s hockey program has enabled us to work closely

with the National Hockey League and the New York Rangers,” Supervisor Saladino said. “It is a tremendous honor that the Rangers have selected the Town of Oyster Bay hockey program to be the recipient of its first alumni association hockey benefit game of the 2017-2018 season.” “Along with Rangers Assist and Chase, the New York Rangers Alumni

Harry “Have you ever really had a teacher? One who saw you as a raw but precious thing, a jewel that, with wisdom, could be polished to a proud shine?” ~ Mitch Albom Last week, I was saddened to learn of the passing of a most cherished teacher, mentor and friend, Mr. Elsesser - “Harry” as he signed the yearly Christmas cards we exchanged. They say that some people leave footprints on your heart… this was most certainly true of the man who took me under his wing way back in 4th grade, and helped me to soar to new heights I never thought possible. Up to that point, I had been a fairly good student, conscientious enough in the academic department, but lacking a bit of the “plays well with others” skills that tend to come with time. Seeing this unfulfilled potential, Mr. Elsesser made it his mission to ensure that I would ﬂourish under his watchful eye.

His class was one of those that you find yourself reﬂecting upon from time to time with a smile, recalling anecdotes and amusing instances, such as when he would entertain us with stories of his travels - to Africa, the Galapagos Islands, Japan, and beyond. Occasionally, there would be touches of Swahili thrown into the vocabulary lesson for good measure. As I entered fifth grade a better all-around student and person, Mr. E. decided to retire after 30 years of teaching in the Lindenhurst school district. Saddened to see him go, and promising to keep in touch, my mother - who had also been a student in the district when Mr. Elsesser began his tenure there started a yearly correspondence, exchanging Christmas cards and keeping each other updated on the happenings in our respective lives. Years later, I took over this tradition and began sending my own correspondence, filling Mr.

E. in on the comings and goings of college and, eventually, my blossoming career. How proud he was to learn that I was utilizing my love of writing and had become a weekly columnist for my old hometown paper. Often, he would call my desk at the office, greeting me with, Is this Miss Jamie Lynn Ryan, the reporter?? We would chat about how work was going, the family, had I seen any of my old classmates lately, what I had for lunch… and always, without fail, as we were getting ready to hang up, he would say, Send hugs and kisses to your parents, and of course to you too. What a wonderful man, and what a treasured friendship, one sustained for over a quarter of a century. How lucky I was that our paths crossed in life, and how blessed I am to have so many fond memories to reﬂect upon, and remember with a smile. May you rest in peace, Mr. E… Love and kisses, Jamie

Further improving upon various parks facilities, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilwoman Michele Johnson today announced that playgrounds throughout the Town are undergoing vast enhancements and, in some cases, complete replacements. “Work is underway to improve and replace playground equipment throughout the Town of Oyster Bay,” stated Supervisor Saladino. “My administration has begun the process of replacing dilapidated playgrounds with all new equipment, bringing a brand new, stateof-the-art playgrounds to parks throughout the Town. Playgrounds in need of enhancement are also receiving a facelift so that children can continue

to safely enjoy them for years to come.” “In the coming weeks, residents can see additional playground improvements at communities throughout our Town, including parks in Syosset, Plainview, Massapequa and Farmingdale,” Councilwoman Johnson added. Adopt-a-Battalion Legislator James D. Kennedy had the honor of standing beside the great people of Adopt-a-Battalion at the memorial barbeque and annual fundraiser in support of American troops still fighting the war on terrorism and to

In the wake of Hurricane Irma, 480 PSEG workers travelled to Florida to restore electric power to particularly hard hit areas. Supervisor Saladino proudly presented a citation in recognition of PSEG’s dedicated administration and workforce.

Park Expansion Underway Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Councilman Joseph Muscarella, Councilwoman Michele Johnson, Councilman Louis Imbroto and Councilman Thomas Hand today unveiled plans for future development of the former Liberty Industrial Finishing site – adjacent to Ellsworth Allen Town Park - in Farmingdale. Town officials were joined by their colleagues in government, Nassau County Legislators James Kennedy and Rose Marie Walker, who have committed grant monies to assist in the funding of the project. The plans, which were developed in partnership with the community after the remediation process completed in 2011, include the construction of softball and baseball fields, a t-ball field, a multipurpose field for sports teams, as well as a pedestrian/bicycle pathway, bathrooms and a parking area. The year-long project got underway this fall with Town crews already beginning site preparation. Ellsworth Allen Park will more than double in size once construction is complete. Supervisor Saladino stated, “For way too long, the Liberty site has been an eyesore in our community. My administration is jumpstarting this community revitalization project so that the property can be enjoyed by seniors, children, and area sports teams. Ellsworth Allen Park will be the pride of Farmingdale when complete.” “This project is long overdue and a dream come true for most residents in Farmingdale and the Town of Oyster Bay. I was proud to lead the fight for environmental

cleanup of the property and I look forward to joining with residents in celebrating the expansion of Ellsworth Allen Town Park when complete,” stated Councilman Joseph Muscarella. Plans for the park include the construction of three ballfields, including a: 90ft. baseball field with infield artificial turf and outfield natural grass; softball field with infield artificial turf and outfield natural grass; and an artificial turf t-ball field. Multi-purpose field space will also be constructed to accommodate sports teams.

To save taxpayer money, Town staff has been working to clear the property, and will remove rough grading, install an irrigation system, run conduit for lighting and pave a temporary parking lot. “The Liberty Site project has been near and dear to me throughout my entire tenure on the Town Board,” said Councilman Anthony Macagnone. “Our residents

have waited a long time to see the development of this property come to light, and I’m proud to see that day coming for the betterment of our community.” The Town anticipates completing the project by the summer of 2019. Subject to Town finances, future plans for the property could potentially include an upgrade to the western end of the property at Ellsworth Allen Town Park and construction of a community building. “I am so proud to see that we are able to move forward with the expansion of Allen Park, to provide a beautiful facility for residents of all ages to enjoy,” Councilman Imbroto said. Whether you and your family enjoy bicycle riding, jogging, baseball, softball or soccer, this new venue will serve as a premier destination for young families and senior citizens like.” Helping to offset the cost of development, Nassau County Legislators James Kennedy and Rose Marie Walker have committed $150,000 in Community Revitalization funding to the project. “I am so pleased to join with my colleagues in local government to help make this long-overdue project a reality for our residents,” Legislator Kennedy said. “This facility will become a haven for residents of all ages to enjoy.” Legislator Walker added, “Projects like the Allen Park expansion are proof of the good that can come of local government representatives working together for the betterment of our communities. I am proud to partner with Supervisor Saladino and the Town of Oyster Bay in making this facility a state-of-the-art destination for our residents.”
