For The Love of Art... Art in the Park was held on September 19, 2021, with 25 talented artists from all types of media displaying their talents on the Farmingdale Village Green. The event brought artists and observers from Farmingdale and surrounding communities. It was well received, and inquiries were made from new artists asking to join this cultural event next year. We were fortunate to have the celebrity artist, Elaine Faith Thompson exhibiting her latest painting of George
Washington praying for his troops in the chapel of the Capitol. Mrs. Thompson also had a painting of the famous singer and rock star Elvis Presley. Elaine is also wellknown for her paintings of the U.S. Open and PGA 2019 and has been commissioned and recognized by all levels of government. She also participated at the 2019 Art in the Park. It was Cultural Arts Day at its finest. Mr. Gregory Gergante a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology and the University of Wisconsin
was the judge of the artwork. Greg’s work includes illustrations, watercolors and life drawings. By the end-of-the-day the winners were recognized

www.addessthehomeless.org Long Island Coalition for the Homeless (LICH) was originally founded in 1985 as a grassroots local advocacy effort to bring nonprofits and other community partners together to unite around the cause of homelessness, seeking to expand and enhance services to meet local needs. As a small local entity, LICH has always relied on partnerships and joint efforts in order to adequately provide support for those that were experiencing homelessness on Long Island. Over time, homelessness has continued to become a growing community challenging, through deinstitutionalization, national de-funding of safety net programs in the 1980s, the war on drugs, housing market crashes, recessions, natural disasters and most significantly (as the number one cause of homelessness on Long Island and nation-wide) the extremely high costs of housing and other expenses to live on Long Island, amongst other things. The mission of LICH is to end homelessness on Long Island and alleviate the issues associated with homelessness and poverty for homeless and at risk persons in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. This non-profit is excited to tell you about their 33rd Annual “Keys for the Homeless” Conference, which will be held on November 10, 2021 from 9am-3pm virtually. This year’s theme, “#StopInequity, Challenges Opportunities Resilience Equity for Homelessness”, was adopted from their experiences and challenges during the pandemic along with the opportunities that have been created in the face of those challenges, the resilience of those most affected by COVID and the need to ensure equity for our most vulnerable neighbors. The theme is a call to action and in their opinion, it’s long overdue.

The Chrysanthemums Are Coming, The Chrysanthemums Are Coming! Starkie Bros. Garden Center will again be the site of the Long Island Chrysanthemum Show. The 66th Annual Show will be held in the Pottery Shed, Starkie Bros Garden Center, Main Street, Farmingdale, NY 11735 (516) 293-7148 These are Not your mother’s chrysanthemums! These mums cannot be bought 3 for $15.00 at the local supermarket. The majority of mums in competition will be giants, minimum size of the bloom to get into the competition is 4”, some up to 11” across. Many people remember them as ‘Football’ Mums. The show will open to the public for viewing, Saturday, October 23, from 12:00 pm to the 5:00 PM, and Sunday, October 24, from 10:00 am – 3:45pm. The awards presentation will
begin at 3:45 pm and breakdown immediately thereafter. Some blooms will be available to the public for a small donation to the Long Island Chrysanthemum Society, Inc. The Great Jack-O’-Lantern Sail at Belmont Lake State Park The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce the 8th Annual Great Jack-o’Lantern Sail on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Belmont Lake State Park. Festivities begin at 3:00PM; the Jack-o’-Lanterns will set sail at approximately 6:15PM. Everyone is welcome to join this spooky celebration! In addition to the Jack-o’-Lantern Sail on the lake at dusk, there will be a kid friendly spooky house, balloon twisting, trick or treating, Frankenstein on stilts, a petting zoo, children’s games and more! Halloween costumes are optional but encouraged.
Don’t forget a trick or treat bag! All activities are free! If you would like to have your jack o’ lantern in the sail, register at www.bookwhen. com/greatpumpkinsail. Registration is limited to the first 100 carved pumpkins.
