In response to LIPA’s recent announcement that solar rebates are being suspended (Newsday, August 30th, 2013), Long Island Power Solutions of Islandia has launched their own Solar Rebate program named, “No Rebate, No Problem.” Joseph Milillo of Long Island Power Solutions introduced the “No Rebate, No Problem” program on September 9th. “What we are offering our customers is our own rebate program commensurate with the rebates that LIPA had offered prior to the recently announced suspension,” said Milillo. “Along with Federal and State tax incentives, which can cover 55% of the cost of a solar system, the LIPA Solar Rebate program helped to make solar energy an affordable alternative for Long Island home owners. As a member of LISEIA (Long Island Solar Energy Industry Association), we have been a proponent of the Long Island solar market and we are offering this program to help keep costs down for consumers and to continue to help foster the growth of the local market. Autumn has arrived, and with it, quickly fading are those last golden rays of summer sunshine, any lingering tan lines, the prospect of wearing ﬂip ﬂops and short sleeves … and, as of this printing, the Yankees’ playoff hopes. Just like that. What a difference one week can make, right? I know, I know … get over it. Seasons come and go, weather changes and we all had just better get used to it – and quickly. Each month brings with it its own unique excitement, and there are those who far prefer the

winter cold to any number of days spent lounging on the beach. (I would not be one of them, in case you couldn’t tell.) But here we are, at any rate, on the verge of October, with the holiday season lurking right over the horizon. Tis’ the season for Oktoberfest and Fall Festivals, high school and college Homecoming parades and games, pumpkin picking and Halloween costume parties. Before you know it, we’ll be making our shopping lists for Black Friday. And, just like that, summer will be a distant memory.

So time to dig out the fall sweaters, store the bathing suits away for another season, and embrace the crunch of the leaves beneath your boots. School is back, football is gearing up and the new fall TV season is in full premiere mode. Doesn’t sound so bad after all, does it? Not bad at all... Part of the beauty of living on Long Island is that we are fortunate to experience all four seasons – may as well start enjoying them. There will always be something to look forward to, somewhere else you would rather be … but there’s still nothing quite like the here and now.

Oyster Bay Receiver of Taxes James J. Stefanich notifies Town residents that the 2013 General Tax Collection Warrant has been closed, and all related records have been turned over to the Nassau County Treasurer. The original warrant specified that $503,854,974.86 was to be collected to support Nassau County, Town of Oyster Bay, and special tax districts. Assessment reductions and tax cancellations amounted to $9,292.37 (0.002%). Nassau County was paid $255,839,256.87 (51%) from the collection. Ice Hockey Registration Councilman Chris J. Coschignano announced that registration for the Town of Oyster Bay Youth Ice Hockey Program will take place on Saturday, October 5th (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.), and Wednesday, October 9th (6 to 9:00 p.m.) at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage. Following those dates, registration will continue in the Recreation office at Town Hall South, located at 977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa, New York 11758, from October 10th through 31st from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. “The Youth Ice Hockey Program provides youngsters, ages three to 13, with the opportunity to hone their skating and hockey skills under the guidance of ice hockey coaches,” Councilman Coschignano stated. “The highly regarded program has earned it recognition by the NHL, which has partnered with the Town to promote hockey programming and youth enrichment through its ‘Hockey is For Everyone’ initiative.” Additionally this season,

the program welcomes back former New York Ranger and Long Island Duck’s Eastern Hockey League legend Buzz Deschamps, who has joined our staff and will help oversee the on-ice program and its coaches. With fall fast approaching, The Farmingdale Fire Department is gearing up for the Annual Columbus Weekend Fair and Carnival, October 10th through 14th. “This year marks the 25th Annual Columbus Weekend Fair, we are commemorating a silver anniversary and hope to attract many Long Island Residents from the surrounding region to come and enjoy the fair and discover our Village and its unique charm,” said Mayor Ralph Ekstrand. “The Fair has something for everyone: Carnival Rides, Games, Food, Fire Department BBQ, Street

Vendors, Local Artisans, Music, Entertainment and of course the Parade and Fireworks Display; plus specials throughout the weekend from downtown merchants and restaurants,” he added. The Farmingdale Fair begins Thursday Night October 10th with Carnival rides, games and food vendors from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday night October 11th the Carnival continues and the Fire Department festivities open with tents, BBQ/food and drink sales from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday October 12th and 13th the Street Fair on Main Street opens at 10 a.m., with many vendors along Main Street as well

as many participating shops and restaurants celebrating with specials and more! During the weekend, the Carnival and Fire Department BBQ/ Food and Vendors start at noon and close at 11 p.m., with local Dance and Musical Acts planned. Don’t miss the activities on Sunday, in addition to the street fair and entertainment throughout the day and evening, at 5 p.m. the Parade kicks off, with a finale featuring the Fireman’s Marching Band, followed by great live music from Farmingdale’s own Electric Dudes! At 10PM the spectacular Fireworks show will close out the night. On

Monday, Columbus Day, the Carnival and Firehouse BBQ and Tents will be open from noon to 10 p.m. The Farmingdale Firehouse is always running specials & fundraisers along with the Fair to help local charities and organizations. “Looking forward to another Columbus Weekend Fair and the gathering of many old and new friends for this community event”, said Fire Chief Frank Romano. The Carnival will be held just south of Conklin Street, behind the Fire Department / Village Hall, adjacent to the Village Green. On Saturday and Sunday, two blocks of Main Street (north and south of

Columbus Weekend Carnival Conklin Street) will close during the day for the street fair. There is free parking, free admission, rides, games, shopping, dancing, music, food and much to explore in the Village of Farmingdale. Last year the fair attracted local residents as well those from Brooklyn, Queens, surrounding towns, as well as the east end. Senior Advocate Schedule Legislator Lou D’Amaro is alerting local residents about the Suffolk County Office for the Aging’s Fall 2013 Senior Advocate Schedule. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out to the local community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies. “Nobody should ever have to go without food, medical attention or other necessities, which is why our senior advocates

literally bring these vital programs and services directly to our seniors in their own communities,” D’Amaro said. Senior Advocates meet with interested and needy seniors aged 60 and over at regularly-scheduled times in specific locations throughout the community. This fall, they are visiting the following locations in the Town of Babylon: • Deer Park Library, 44 Lake Avenue, Deer Park: Tuesday, November 26th from 9 to 11 a.m. • Lindenhurst Library, 1 Lee Avenue, Lindenhurst:
