It is always an exciting time when a new school year begins, and for the Farmingdale School District, the 2023-2024 academic year is no exception. On September 6,

students were welcomed back by Superintendent Paul Defendini, administrators, and staff, all of whom were eager to see the smiling faces of the new and returning Dalers. As the students

hopped off the school buses and walked toward their classrooms, the sense of anticipation and excitement was palpable.

L.I.’s Largest Car Show Returns To TOBAY Beach On September 24th

Hundreds Of Vehicles To Participate, Trophy Presentation, Free Concert & Free Admission For Spectators

Long Island’s largest and most premier car show experience returns to TOBAY Beach on Sunday, September 24th, from 11am to 4pm. “Car Show Long Island” features hundreds of automobiles, trucks, military vehicles, and emergency service vehicles. A live concert performed by Vinyl Revival will take place during the day, followed by trophy presentations.

The event is free for spectators.

Supervisor Saladino stated, “Whether you’re a proud classic car owner or you want to see the latest and greatest automobiles in the world, Car Show Long Island is the place to be! With a diverse range of vehicles showcased, car enthusiasts will have the opportunity to admire and interact with some of the most impressive cars

around. This free familyfun event is a perfect way to spend the day, all with the beautiful backdrop of TOBAY Beach. Spectators can check out cool cars, vendors, exhibits and enjoy live music while surrounded by Long Island’s best classic, muscle, antique and exotic cars.”

The National External Diploma Program offers adults 21 and over, the opportunity to receive credit for their life experiences, and earn a high school equivalency diploma without the challenge of taking lengthy timed examinations. NEDP, is a competency based program for students who are unable to attend classes or who prefer to work at home. Successful candidates for

NEDP include former ESL students, students who have been out of school for prolonged periods of time, or students who fare better without the structure of tests. This program is an alternative to other programs.

Stars And Stripes Forever Farmingdale Siblings Honor 9/11 Victims With Touching Flag Display

The tragedy of September 11th, 2001, is a day that will forever be etched in the memories of those who lived through it. Even though it has been two decades since that horrific day, the memories of the victims and the heroism of the first responders continue to inspire people worldwide.

For young Daler’s Mary, Conor, Jason, and Faith Carroll, the events of September 11th deeply impacted them, even though they were not yet born. They learned about that day’s devastation and heroism through school, news, and family stories. Wanting to do something to honor the fallen and ensure that their memory lives on, they came up with a plan.

The siblings created an Amazon wishlist and asked the Farmingdale

community to donate flags. The response was overwhelming, with thousands of flags delivered to the Carroll house. The siblings then placed the flags outside their school buildings, Howitt Middle School and Saltzman East Memorial.

This wasn’t the first time the Carroll siblings had honored the victims. They had previously started a tradition in their old school district, and after moving to Farmingdale, they wanted to continue it. Their dedication to remembering the victims and honoring the first responders has touched the hearts of many in their community, and their act of kindness and remembrance is a beautiful reminder of the resilience and compassion of the human spirit.

As we reflect on the events of September

11th, let us remember the victims and their families, as well as the

first responders who risked their lives to save others. Let us also take

inspiration from the Carroll siblings’ actions, find ways to honor the

fallen, and promote kindness and compassion in our communities.

Officials wished the team a great season filled with fun and friendship and also thanked parents and coaches for their continued investment in youth athletics.

The original warrant specified that $590,878,211.73 was to be collected to support Nassau County, Town of Oyster Bay, and special tax districts. Assessment reductions and tax cancellations amounted to $544,450.51 (0.1%). Nassau County’s portion was $254,667,368.54

A list of unpaid properties was reported to the County Treasurer, amounting to $10,039,207.50 (1.7%).

Receiver Pravato stated, “Property owners with delinquent taxes will be contacted by the Nassau County Treasurer. The Treasurer’s office can be contacted at 1 West Street, Mineola, (516) 571-2090. Home owners with unpaid taxes will be receiving

Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board announced that the Town’s shell recycling program, which is completing its inaugural year, has been a tremendous success through partnerships with local restaurants and food vendors. To date, over a dozen local restaurants participate in the program, and more are welcome to join.

“Through is innovative program, the Town seeks partnerships with local restaurants and other entities to collect oyster and clam shells from dinner plates and kitchen preparation tables,” explained Supervisor Saladino. “Town aquaculturists regularly pickup shells from local partners and deliver them to an environmental curing facility. In just our first year, we’ve collected more than 20,000 pounds of oyster and clam shells,

diverted that waste from landfills, and saved restaurants in their carting expenses. Once ready for deposit into waterways, the shells are strategically placed at the bottom of local Oyster Bay and Cold Spring harbors, helping to strengthen our local marine environment.”

Shellfish are essential mollusks in the local marine environment as they filter water through their feeding mechanisms. A single adult oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of seawater per day, making shellfish Mother Nature’s most valuable marine cleansers. Studies indicate that by expanding shellfish populations in local harbors we can improve water quality for generations to come. While this program helps the environment, it also helps restauranteurs toward achieving compliance requirements with the New York State Food Donation

and Scraps Recycling Law while also reducing waste carting expenses.

Councilwoman Vicki Walsh added, “The Town’s Shell Recycling partner program brings the entire community together to help restore shellfish populations in Oyster Bay and Cold Spring Harbors by providing habitat for shellfish and other marine species, improve water quality, and restoring local food supply. It’s a win-win for the community and our environment and we invite more restaurants to join us today.”

The Village Of Farmingdale Benefits From The 3M And DuPont, Chemours And Corteva Landmark Settlements In The AFFF MDL

The Village of Farmingdale is pleased to announce its satisfaction with the groundbreaking settlements reached in the Aqueous FilmForming Foam (AFFF) Multi-District Litigation (MDL) involving 3M, DuPont, Chemours, and Corteva. These settlements are extremely helpful in ensuring the protection

and safeguarding its water consumers from PFAS contamination.

“We are exceptionally grateful for the diligent efforts of all parties involved, particularly Mayor Ralph Ekstrand and the Farmingdale Village Board of Trustees, to ensure that the costs related to the remediation of the contaminated water will be borne by

the polluters and not our local residents,” said Paul J. Napoli, lawyer for the Village of Farmingdale.

As per the Estimated Allocation Range Tables provided by the PFAS Settlement Steering Committee, the Village of Farmingdale anticipates receiving substantial compensation from these settlements. Initial settlement amounts are

anticipated to provide the Village of Farmingdale of up to $5,000,000.00 from the DuPont, Chemours and Corteva and 3M. These funds will be integral in treating PFAS contamination and lessening the near term financial burden to ratepayers. Notably, there are 15 defendants remaining in additional litigation and the Village

is working to secure additional settlements from those defendants.

According to Counsel Paul J. Napoli, the Village has also been appointed to serve as a bellwether plaintiff in initiating legal actions against non-settling Defendants. Through this trial the Village hopes to secure additional monies to treat the contaminated

water. “Our resolve to safeguard the health and welfare of our residents remains steadfast. We will explore every legal avenue to seek the compensation necessary to ensure that we are able to provide PFAS-free, clean water to our residents,” declared Mayor Ralph Ekstrand.
