Haley is a company dancer at Jennifer Napolitano’s School Of Performing Arts in Seaford New York. JNPA Dance has produced TV and Broadway Stars as well as a Tony Award Winner! Haley’s Mother Melanie travels on a regular basis from Connecticut to Long Island NY for Haley to train intensely by Jennifer Napolitano. Haley is a regional and national overall high score solo champion, an undefeated title holder and judges choice winner nationwide! Haley has achieved worldwide recognition for her brilliant technique for an 11 year old young dancer and has been recognized for her star struck stage presence. Haley was born to dance. Stardom is her destiny and she will achieve it. Haley stands out of any crowd large or small with her flawless level of excellence. Haley is an extremely tough act to follow. She has the one thing we all dream of having - the “IT” factor! When she hits the stage, the room stands still for a moment in time! Haley has won regional and national competitions nationwide and is a true force to be reckoned with! Haley lives, breathes and devotes her life to her dance career. For it is the air that makes her survive! Haley’s dream was to be a TV star and a broadway star, and at 11 years old one of her lifelong dreams has come true which not many individuals can say in their lifetime. About Haley’s experience on Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition Season 2 1,000 dancers auditioned nationwide and only 11 title holders were selected to participate in Season Two of Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition. Haley Huelsman was one of the 11 chosen and she describes working with Abby Lee Miller as, “the most incredible and memorable experience of her entire life.” After participating in the show Haley says life will never be the same, she will forever nurture her gift of dance and she’s fully committed to stay one hundred percent dedicated to her art. Her journey on this amazing series has been truly remarkable and she can’t wait to see what opportunities become reality for her after the world sees her shine on Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition, which premieres on Lifetime this September 3 at 9 pm. Take out Alzheimer’s Disease with that “Winner Shot.” On Friday, August 16th, Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Center, Inc. will host its 2nd Annual Berts Tennis Fundraiser, which will be held at SPORTIME on 175 Merrick Rd. in Lynbrook from 7 to 10 p.m. Families can come play tennis while also enjoying food, raffles, and prizes. The cost for Berts Tennis will be $45 per person. out of friends, teachers, and community residents when the group began chanting “Nicholas! Nicholas!” and presented him with this special gift. Tears were flowing and grandparents were called, “Get here now - I can’t speak, just get here.” From Levittown to West Babylon in less than six minutes, Grandma & Grandpa were overwhelmed with

the activity in the street. Sister Samantha yelled to them, “We got it, we got the bike!” The crowd drove off, leaving the family still stunned and amazed. Nick was happily tooting his Spider Man horn. Mom asked, “How do I get to do this for someone else?” And so it begins... PAY IT FORWARD.

As an editor, it would stand to reason that I have a bit of a pet peeve when it comes to misspelled words and poor grammar. But understandably, everyone makes mistakes from time to time. Lately, though, it seems that these errors have been featured front and center on a number of occasions. First, there was the faux pas of Hempstead School District’s “Summer Reading List,” which included such literary classics as The Great Gypsy, The Canterbury Tale and The Lovely Bone, as well as works by such esteemed authors as Charlotte Bonte (Jane Eyre) and George Ornell (Animal Farm). As many newspapers and social media sites jumped all over the errors, the sense of irony was overwhelming – a

document designed to promote literacy among the youth, seemingly put together by someone who could have used a couple more years fine-tuning his/her English skills… and this generated by one of the poorest performing districts on Long Island. Perhaps it was merely a test to see how many people would pick out the mistakes? And then, just last week came this: a new sign on the Robert Moses Causeway directing drivers to “Jonse” Beach. The sign was hung recently on the southbound side, causing many drivers to do a double take. Clearly, most residents can manage to overlook the typo in locating one of the nation’s most popular, landmark beaches – but that’s not the point. Wouldn’t someone glance at such a giant structure before displaying it? Or are massive

roadside signs exempt from the proofreading process? Although, come to think of it, I actually had my own such experience with a misspelled sign back in high school, when the school district commissioned their annual display saluting the year’s Valedictorian, Salutatorian and other such honors. My excitement at seeing my name painted on the giant wooden signs marking both ends of town was slightly marred when we drove by to see the following on graduation morning: Valedictorian ~ Jamie Lee Ryan. Just a word to the wise – the bigger the structure, and the more publicly distributed the document, the more “second looks” (and third, and fourth) any wording should be given. (As I re-read this column one more time!)

Local Scholarship Winner The Avon Foundation for Women, the world’s largest corporateaffiliated philanthropy focused on issues that matter most to women, has awarded local student Justin Schenck of Farmingdale with a $2,000 Avon President’s Recognition Program Scholarship. These scholarships are designed to support winners in achieving their educational goals. Tournament Registration Open If hours of fishing followed by a tailgate party with hot dogs, beverages, snacks, raffles, awards and prizes sounds like a perfect day to you, then you’ll want to sign up for the 28th Annual Town of Oyster Bay Bluefish Tournament, scheduled for Sunday, September 15th, according to Councilman Chris J. Coschignano. “The Town’s Bluefish Tournament is a great all-day sporting event with wonderful prizes and great camaraderie,” Councilman Coschignano said, adding that the

tournament runs from 4:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. “The entrance fee for the tournament, which is open to anglers of all ages, is $30 for Town residents and $40 for non-residents. Registration is limited to the first 350 boats, so sign up early.” C o u n c i l m a n Coschignano went on to say that additional rules for the tournament, which is sponsored by the Town’s Department of Parks and Oyster Bay Marine Supply, are contained in the registration form, which is available at all Town facilities and at Oyster

Bay Marine Supply, 294 South Street, Oyster Bay. Councilman Coschignano noted that all contestants must be pre-registered. All those who register before September 10 will receive a tournament T-shirt. All contestants will automatically be entered in a special raffle, with great prizes including Mercury inflatable boats and Mercury outboards, rods, reels, ice chests, water skis, dinners for two and much more. C o u n c i l m a n Coschignano continued on to say that along with plaques, winners of first

through 10th places will receive gift certificates in the following amounts: first place - $2,000; second place - $1,000; third place - $750; fourth place - $600; fifth and sixth places - $500; seventh and eighth places - $400; ninth and 10th places $300. Winners of 11th and 12th places will receive a $200 gift certificate and 13th, 14th and 15th place winners will each received a $100 gift certificate. Raffle winners must be present to receive their prizes, which will be presented at the tailgate party scheduled for 3 p.m.

C o u n c i l m a n Coschignano indicated that the co-sponsors of this year’s Bluefish Tournament include: Bowne AE&T Group, Bridge Marina, Greg Van Dyke Building, BMW of Oyster Bay, Duffy’s Bait and Tackle, H&M Powles Marina, Mercury Outboards, Mill Max Corporation, Sagamore Collision, North Shore Fire Equipment, and Zorn’s Chicken and Ribs. “Fishing is indeed a sport for all ages that offers everything one would want for a day of fun … the tranquility of

being out in the water, the adrenaline rush of feeling that first big tug on your fishing line and, in the case of our tournament, the spirit of competition,” Councilman Coschignano said. “Add to that the possibility of winning impressive prizes and you have the Town of Oyster Bay Bluefish Tournament.
