I look forward to seeing everyone on event day, and I encourage any one of any age or riding ability to sign up for the event, as three course routes will be featured.” The event will feature 3 course lengths: a 10mile route spanning the shoreline from Bayville to Centre Island (ideal for family and children), a 25mile route featuring the scenic rolling hills from Bayville through Locust Valley, Glen Cove and Old Brookville (for more experienced riders) and a 62-mile route through Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, Roslyn Harbor, to Port Washington, and then all the way to Teddy Roosevelt’s

home at Sagamore Hill (for advanced cyclists). By participating in Empire State Ride Long Island, bicyclists will have an opportunity to make a real impact on cancer research and patient care through clinical trials at these locations. In 2021, over $100,000 was raised by nearly 250 riders. Registration is now open for this fundraising event with a $25 fee for each participant. Riders will commit to a fundraising minimum which is $200 for adults and $75 for riders under 18 for all routes. To kick start each rider’s efforts, their $25 registration fee will be credited to their fundraising page. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board announced a partnership with Empire State Ride Long Island to host a charity ride to raise funds to end cancer. The ride, which will take place on Saturday, July 23, will raise funds for clinical research and trials that have helped to save the lives of cancer patients at Catholic Health on Long Island and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, the nation’s first cancer center in the United States dedicated exclusively to cancer research. “I am so proud that the Town of Oyster Bay will play host to such an amazing event. Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez and Councilman Terence McSweeney were excited to recently join other local elected officials in attending the Ribbon Cutting Celebration at John’s Crazy Socks new headquarters in East Farmingdale. John’s Crazy Socks is a father-son business, created in late 2016 and inspired by co-founder John Lee Cronin, a young man with Down

syndrome. It is now the world’s largest sock store with 4,000 different socks to choose from. The company has created 34 jobs 22 of which are held by people with differing abilities. In addition to cutting the ribbon, Babylon Town officials were also able to present John with a framed pair of his Down Syndrome Awareness Socks and a certificate of special recognition on behalf of the Town.

The Head Injury Association also offers support and services to help navigate the eligibility process and throughout the application phase to assist in accessing supports and services offered through Head Injury Association. It also offers employment services, with Adult Career and Continuing Education ServicesVocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) to achieve and maintain employment, and to support independent living through training, education, rehabilitation and career development. Another Kinexion afﬁliate organization is the Center for Developmental Disabilities, located in Woodbury. “We help children and adults overcome

barriers to living, working, learning and enjoying recreational opportunities in the community of their choice,” says Jay Silverstein, Ph.D., Executive Director of The Center. “We are dedicated to the achievement of excellence and innovation within a community based upon respect, kindness and open communication.” The center offers a variety of diverse programs include a Children’s Day Program, which operates 12 months a year and serving children ages 5-21 who have an educational classiﬁcation of Autism, Intellectual Disability or Multiple Disabilities. The classroom curriculum covers academic subjects such as English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, while also fostering the development of each student’s daily living skills and social skills. Computer and technology education are a part of each classroom’s weekly schedule. The Center also launched the “Support with Dignity” initiative to enhance opportunities for individuals to live with greater independence within their communities. This initiative embraces three pillars: Respectful Interactions, Promoting Independence and fostering Purposeful, Person-Centered Activities. Through a collective commitment to best practices in the ﬁeld, the Center will advance the hopes and dreams of the individuals it serves. ‘Dressed to Kilt’ Charity Fashion Show

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino recently announced that ‘Dressed to Kilt,’ the most prestigious and exciting Scottish fashion event in the world, will be coming to the Town of Oyster Bay. Dressed to Kilt, founded by Scottish actor Sir Sean Connery in 2003, is an annual charity fashion show that raises funds to benefit the Navy SEAL Foundation. The show will take place on the evening of Saturday July 23rd at the Mill Neck Manor Estate in Mill Neck. “Dressed to Kilt is a well-established charity fashion event that has a long history of serving veterans on both sides of the Atlantic. In previous years, the show has raised funds for organizations such as The Erskine Hospital, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and The Wounded Warrior

Project, all benefitting the brave men and women who fought in protection of our freedoms,” said Supervisor Saladino. “It’s sure to be an entertaining evening on Oyster Bay’s beautiful Gold Coast, and all for a great cause.” This year’s theme is ‘Dress for AdventureFrom the Highlands to the Hamptons,’ featuring clothing for all things outdoorsy, including but

Neighbor Pets’ Place Adopt a pet today!

Each year, the Women’s Club of Farmingdale (WCF), along with other NYS women’s clubs, submits the name of a high school music student who meets the criteria for the prestigious Olive B. O’Connor $1,000 Music Award presented by the General Federation of Women’s Clubs – NYS. The criteria require the winner to use the award for continued musical education. The applicant must submit a completed application, a letter of reference from an instructor of instrument or voice and performance samples for judging in any technological use, as well as an official, current school transcript and a short essay of the planned use of the award. The winner will then submit a copy of the music to be performed at the next GFWC-NYS Convention where the award will be

presented. WCF member Bea Ferrari is very proud to have nominated Farmingdale High School senior Ben Hoffman. Ben is the second winner, nominated by Bea and the women’s club, to receive this impressive award. His qualifications include vocal and instrumental abilities. He plays trombone for the high school’s Wind Ensemble (advanced band), the school’s marching band and pep band and Lead Trombone for the school’s Jazz Band. He sings Tenor for the high school’s Mixed Chorus and Vocal Jazz Group. According to Ben, he “has been in love with music my whole life. It is my greatest passion and hobby. My favorite thing to do is performing for people and expressing myself through music.” Ben also is part of the high school’s theatre club called Playcrafters

which performs musicals and dramas. Ben has been Vice President of the school’s Tri-M Music Honor Society, President of the High School Mixed Chorus, Director of the Pep Band and Head Section Leader of the Trombone Section of the HS Marching Band. He has participated in NYSSMA All County Ensembles: Voice/Mixed Chorus and Trombone/ Symphony Orchestra/ Band and in NYSSMA All State Ensembles: Voice/ Mixed Chorus and Bass Tr o m b o n e / S y m p h o n y Orchestra. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Councilwoman Laura Maier, and Receiver of Taxes Jeff Pravato joined with Nassau County Legislator Steven Rhoads and the NYS Police Chiefs Association to distribute over 200 free lifejackets to children

Saladino said. “Even the strongest of swimmers can be compromised or unable to find a life vest during a dangerous situation, which is why this event is so critical.” The free lifejackets distributed at this event were made possible thanks to the

The Theodore Roosevelt Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America inducted Mayor Ralph Ekstrand into the Eagle Scout Hall of Fame at the Eagle Scout Hall of Fame Recognition Dinner on June 1, 2022 at Carlton on the Park in Eisenhower Park. The event was planned by Theodore Roosevelt Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, in partnership with the Arthur R. Eldred Chapter of the National Eagle Scouts Association, and honored “National Outstanding Eagle Scout Awardees”, “Nassau County Eagle Scout Hall of Fame Inductees”, and celebrated several Anniversary Eagle Classes. Ekstrand was recognized as an Eagle Scout in 1970, and from 1986 to 1995 he served as Assistant Cub Master and Cub Master of Pack 57, sponsored at St. Kilian’s Church. He also served as Unit Commissioner

and on the Eagle Scout Review Board for the Rough Rider District. “Scouting builds character, leadership, teamwork and family values. Those involved in scouting help teach and build family values, its what we need for the generations to come. I am truly honored to be recognized with the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award; as one of the Nassau County Hall of Fame Inductees,” said Mayor Ekstrand. On behalf of the Farmingdale Board of Trustees, congratulations to Mayor Ralph Ekstrand on this prestigious honor, and to all honorees inducted, all Eagle Scouts and Scouts. Ekstrand is Supervising Pharmacist at Moby Drugs in Farmingdale Village. Ralph is currently serving his 10th year as Mayor of the Village of Farmingdale. Under

his tenure, Farmingdale Village has become a model for “Smart Growth” development. In implementing the Village’s Master Plan along with the Board of Trustees, over $200 million in new construction and economic activity has taken place as new apartments and businesses are established in the revitalized community. Mayor Ekstrand and the Board of Trustees are delighted that Farmingdale Village has become a downtown destination; home to more than 8,000 residents (Dalers) and hundreds of businesses/organizations.
