The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that they are hosting the 44th Annual Jones Beach Volleyball Tournament comprised of 6-player coed teams. This event will take place on Saturday, July 16, 2022 and will be held rain or shine. The tournament will begin at 9:00AM on the volleyball courts at Central Mall Field 4 at Jones Beach State Park. The first round of matches will be played as a round robin. All teams are guaranteed to play seven games. The top two teams from each round robin bracket will advance on to the quarterfinals which will decide the two final teams. Cash prizes will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place teams. The 3rd and 4th place teams

will receive merchandise prizes. Registration is FREE and is open until the roster is full. Players must be 14 years old or older to participate. Players of all skill levels are welcome to play and will be seeded accordingly. To register, please send your legible, completed application either by mail to Volleyball Tournament, P.O. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board will host the 8th Annual “Shootout for Soldiers” 24-Hour Lacrosse Benefit Game at the Town of Oyster Bay’s John J. “We created Kinexion to unite seven existing non-profits under one roof to eliminate duplicative overhead and back-office operations,” said Walter W. Stockton, CEO of Kinexion. “By being part of a large organization, these agencies get to participate in sharing in costs and saving money and in learning new things about providing the best services we can for the people that we serve.” One of those non-profits is Independent Group Home (IGHL), which opened its first group home in Mt. Sinai in 1978 to provide a community-based, homelike environment that encouraged personal growth and a genuine sense of belonging to a community for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Since then, IGHL has developed multiple community home opportunities, and a complete services network throughout Suffolk County. IGHL also runs Day Treatment programs, residential homes and communitybased residential homes to allow people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to experience living in a home environment while receiving the specialized care they require. “The goal of IGHL’s residential program is to encourage growth and independence while providing a genuine sense of belonging,” said Stockton, who is also President & CEO of IGHL. “We help each of our residents and program participants be as independent as possible. We teach

The Farmingdale Adult Day Care Center is a non-profit interfaith service that provides support for the elderly. The organization has been serving the community for over 25 years and is a cooperative of Farmingdale United Methodist Church, St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, St. Kilian’s Roman Catholic Church and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. They offer socialization and stimulation for individuals 60 years old and above with physical and/or memory impairment, generally Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia. Activities they offer include arts and crafts, live entertainment, group exercise, pet therapy, blackboard

activities and small group workshops called “Motivate The Minds”. Their clients are provided with assistance with everyday functions such as ambulatory needs and they also offer twice a month support group meetings for their caregivers. The Farmingdale Adult Day Care Center proudly holds Open Houses every Tuesday and Thursday, where they offer refreshments while you can learn about everything they offer. We talked with local company Unified Home Remodeling, on how they are combating inflation to keep prices down during this time. Unified is leveraging its long-standing partnerships with national manufacturers to control costs and reduce unnecessary price hikes for consumers. WCF Presents Monetary Awards To FHS Seniors And Appoints New President & Executive Board At the Farmingdale High School Senior Awards Ceremony held on June 6, the Women’s Club of Farmingdale (WCF) was very proud to be able to present 5 deserving seniors with the following monetary awards: Tasnim Rauzat $1,000 Women’s Club of Farmingdale Award Kevin Piraino $1,000 Abigail E. Leonard Award Juliana Young $600 Carla Peipert Art Award Margaret Tower $300 Joseph P. Connelly Award Jayden Patterson $300 Culinary Award In addition, through the innovative energies of the WCF Ways & Means Committee, which was faced with unparalleled pandemic restrictions, monetary donations were made to St. Kilian’s Outreach, Operation Smile, St. Jude’s Red Wagons, and Canine

Companions. The awards and donations totaled approximately $5,000. The June 2 General Meeting saw the appointment of a new President and Executive Board for a two-year term - 2022-2024. They include: President Barbara Hoerner, 1st VP Lynda Leone, 2nd VP Margaret Barrett, Recording Secretary Lorraine Stanton, Corresponding Secretary Elaine Ryan, Treasurer Cathy Sewell and Auditor Ann Lomonte. Many thanks to these members for continually encompassing the “Volunteer Spirit.” In addition, members supported a $687 donation to the Monastery of the Sisters of St. Clair in Italy which is housing and feeding several dozen Ukrainian women and children refugees. In April, the WCF celebrated its 109th

birthday with a lunch/ meeting at Palmer’s Restaurant. Preparations were made by Luncheon Chair Linda Kreussling and her committee Angelina Dunlop and Judith Vazquez. Approximately 40 guests attended. Also in April, the club’s Welfare Committee visited Epic House in Farmingdale, bringing homemade cookies and candies and 2022-2024 WCF EXECUTIVE BOARD - L-R Elaine Ryan, Ann Lomonte, Cathy small gifts for the residents. Sewell, Lorraine Stanton, Margaret Barrett, Lynda Leone, Barbara Hoerner The Incorporated Village of Farmingdale is looking especially beautiful through the efforts of the Village Beautification Committee, comprised of local residents and WCF members, who volunteered their time on several Saturday mornings to landscape the Village with a picturesque variety of plants and flowers.
