Water District Releases Water Quality Report The South Farmingdale Water District (SFWD), which serves South Farmingdale, North Massapequa as well as parts of Bethpage, Seaford and Massapequa Park, has released its 2018 Drinking Water Quality Report, and is proud to announce that the District’s water meets and exceeds all local, state and federal standards, requirements and criteria.

The report is required to be made public, in compliance with federal and state regulations. Compiled by a local engineering firm and a local laboratory service, in conjunction with Nassau County Department of Health, this in-depth report contains valuable information regarding District water quality, treatment, sources,

conservation measures, cost and water quality statistics. In a statement from the Board of Water Commissioners, “South Farmingdale Water District’s continuing goal is to provide our customers with quality, dependable drinking water each and every day. We’re happy to announce that there are no violations of any drinking

all new and emerging contaminants. What this means to consumers is that the water that flows from the tap goes through the most rigorous testing in the industry. Farmingdale High School senior Alayna Camisa—the enthusiastic Dale the Lion mascot for the past four years— received the Dr. James Tolle Unsung Heroine Award at the Todd Heimer Administrators/Secretarial Luncheon—held at the Westbury Manor on Friday, June 14th. The honor comes with a plaque and a check for a thousand dollars. This is the second year the award has been given. It goes to one young lady and one young man in Nassau County who have shown the commitment to participate in at least two varsity sports per year, work hard, have a positive influence on their teammates, and bring people together. They must exemplify excellent sportsmanship, and show involvement in both community service and extracurricular activities. Director of Athletics Jeanne Berkoski nominated Alayna for the award, and her application was supported by recommendations by Superintendent Paul Defendini, Assistant Superintendent Glen Zakian, FHS Principal Dr. Samuel

The Charity of the Month for July is: Rebuilding Together Long Island

Rebuilding Together Long Island is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. They are an affiliate of the national organization, Rebuilding Together. They provide free home repairs to the frail and elderly, our veterans, people with d i s a b i l i t i e s and families with children. Those who receive the free home repairs must have met their financial criteria. Their mission as an organization is to repair homes, revitalize communities and rebuild lives. They help Long Island’s economicallydisadvantaged homeowners so they can live in comfort and safety while maintaining their independence (RTLI does not service the Hamptons).

After featuring a powerful testimonial last week, I’d like to feature another testimonial this week to show just how much of an impact the work of this organization has on the Long Island community. One thankful Long Island resident that has received help from RTLI said, “Your organization is truly a blessing to people like me who have no one and no finances at all to ever cover all the fixings. You’ve made it possible for me to have some peace of mind so I can still be able to stay in my home, the only “roots” I know.”

2) Sponsor a Project. RTLI allows corporations to sponsor a project so they can see a positive impact on the life of a senior, veteran, disabled person or a family in need. This is a great opportunity team building and a community leadership opportunity for your employees. Why not demonstrate your organization’s commitment to community service and improving the quality of life on Long Island! 3) Attend a Meeting. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of every month at their office located at 208 Route 109, Suite 204 in Farmingdale at 10 am. 4) Donate. Consider making a donation to their organization. This organization performs repairs including carpentry, electrical, plumbing and home modifications (including wheelchair ramps for the physically challenged), weatherization, installation of smoke alarms, back and front yard clean-up and more. Since 1992 they have provided repairs to over 2,600 homeowners in need at a current pace of over 150 projects annually within Nassau and Suffolk.

1) Volunteer. They are looking for volunteers to work hands on with a crew performing home repair work. Individuals do not have to have specific handyman skills, training is available. All volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Additionally, they are looking for a licensed Plumber or Electrician to volunteer their time and skills to help on specific projects. Lastly, they are in need of home visitors to walk through the homes of needy individuals for a safety inspection.

This non-profit interfaith social day care program held at the Farmingdale United Methodist Church, 401 Main Street, offers socialization and stimulation to persons 60 years and older who are dealing with physical or cognitive limitations, especially Alzheimer’s and dementia. Activities include arts and crafts, group exercises, pet therapy, blackboard activities, lectures and live entertainment, all overseen by dedicated staff and volunteers. Music Program Gets Gold The music program at Farmingdale High School has received a Gold designation from the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. Their School Recognition Program is designed to recognize Long Island high school music programs that are creating valuable music experiences for their students
