For those who are looking to take a trip down memory lane, Oyster Bay Town Councilman Joseph Pinto encourages residents to come out for the return of Classic Car Cruise Nights, held on Friday evenings throughout the months of July and August, at the LIRR Train Station parking lot on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa. Beginning on Friday, July 12th and continuing through Friday, August 23rd, the Town’s Department of Parks, Recreation Division will present the classic car events, which will display vintage automobiles in fun and festive atmosphere. “Getting our first car

and taking it out for a spin is one of the most cherished memories that many of us have of our youth,” Councilman Pinto said. “At these events, it’s amazing to see how the owners of vintage autos have maintained their prized automobiles so well, and kept these vehicles in such great condition. For our younger residents, it’s also a chance to see a part of American culture up close.” Councilman Pinto added that residents are invited to Classic Car Cruise Nights, free of charge. Classic Cruise Nights and license plates for the vehicle, and must register upon arrival. Registration begins at 6:15 p.m. Vintage car owners are required to donate two cans of food in order to display their autos. All vintage cars may only be driven by their owners, who are required to stay for the entire event. Councilman Pinto noted that Classic Car Cruise Nights are limited to automobiles. As such, motorcycles are not permitted. “I invite residents to come to the Massapequa Train Station for one of these classic car events,” concluded Councilman Pinto. “Enjoying these cars is a great way to spend a summer evening.” Classic Car Cruise Nights will be held on July 12th, 19th, 26th and August 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd. Cloudy With A Chance Of Rain By: Jamie Lynn Ryan This seems to have been the weather forecast for the last, I don’t know, two or three weeks or so, give or take a day when it was obviously, undeniably… raining. What to do with this kind of uncertainty? Cancel all plans and batten down the hatches “just in case,” right? Um… no. I shake my head when I see people frantically rearranging their schedules to accommodate the weather – that great, unpredictable force of Mother Nature that we are all beholden to. Why? Chances are, the

so-called experts will be slightly off, or, better yet, completely wrong. Best to cover all bases by predicting a little of everything, no? No. How about some good old-fashioned meteorology to back up these forecasts – and future-casts? Or better yet, how about we focus on getting the one-day right before expanding into the next 7-10 days? Life is unpredictable enough as it is. The last thing we need is others’ farﬂung foresight thrown into the mix to ensure that no plans are ever made, nothing is ever done and we all just sit around and “play it safe.”

Put it this way, you could do nothing, go nowhere, see no one, experience zilch ... and your own four walls and ceiling could come crashing down around you. So better to get out and see the world, no? I think so. Which is why, sometimes to my detriment, I refuse to put any plans on hold until I look out my window and decide for myself. There are far too many, more important things to worry about. A storm cloud hovering overhead is the least of them. Besides, after the storm, you just may see a rainbow.
