Equity First Foundation (EFF) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization located here on Long Island. Rhonda Klch started this foundation with the mission to offer services, resources and programs to consumers and small businesses that are facing financial distress. Although the details of financial markets may not be necessary for everyone, a good understanding of everyday finances is needed to ensure your home, bank account and additional assets are protected as you go about your life. This nonprofit is guided by a board of experts from the Long Island business community. They strive to educate the community so people can make financial decisions with knowledge and confidence. EFF provides financial education, literacy and best practices at low or no cost to individuals and groups from primary school through retirement and including life events. Rhonda Klch, Executive Director of the Equity First Foundation has taken all necessary steps to get out of her comfort zone and attack COVID with her resources. As a women entrepreneur, she used her relationships, social media and community to power through this current pandemic. In March of 2020, when the pandemic really started to hit hard, Rhonda, along with the assistance of her board members, united to find solutions for the community despite what was going on. Rhonda believed that even though EFF programs may be on hold, that did not mean the people of the community did not still need answers and help. She has worked endless hours for the sake of the families that need assistance and need a voice. Since the pandemic Rhonda has either spearheaded or collaborated in many projects to help our community out. Here is an example of just a few: The Grab & Go 3,000 Event in Patchogue: Rhonda collaborated with business owner of local restaurant to provide over 3,000 hot meals to families in need. Grab & Go Breakfast in Rocky Point: EFF collaborated with local bagel store owner, Edward Henry of Strathmore bagels and a few

sponsors, to give-away over 300 breakfasts to families in need. 6 Week Marathon: March 29th was the beginning of a 6 week marathon of assisting front line workers with food. EFF and Rhonda did a Go Fund Me with local bagel store owner, Edward Henry to supply St. Charles, Mather and Stony Brook Hospital food every night. PPE Equipment Fundraiser: EFF collaborated with several Allstate Insurance offices to raise funds for PPE equipment. Over 2,000 masks were delivered to various hospitals, senior centers, nursing homes and fire districts. Although EFF has switched their programs from in person to virtual, they have been well received. They continue to offer free financial counseling and outreach resources for numerous families on Long Island. Miriam H. says, “Rhonda is a true professional that looks out for the best interest of her clients. She works hard at finding the best solutions and making her clients shine. Whenever referring a personal friend or client to Rhonda, I am confident in her ability to take proper care of them.” If you’re searching for somone to look out for you while guiding you through important financial decisions, Rhonda and EFF is the right choice. Remembering Forever Daler: Joe Belisi

One of our Daler Heroes; Joseph Vincent Belisi, of Farmingdale, a two-time Purple Heart recipient from the Vietnam War, retired Nassau County Police Sergeant, former Superior Officers Association VicePresident, and Nassau County Legislator for the 14th District, passed away at the age of 73, on June 16, 2020 from Parkinson’s Disease. Friends and colleagues paid their respects at the Arthur F. White Funeral Home, and St. Kilian RC Church, followed by a private service at Calverton National Cemetery. “Legislator Belisi was a great friend to the Village of Farmingdale and The

Board of Trustees and I took great pride in declaring December 2nd, 2013 as “JOE BELESI DAY!” This award was a celebration and tribute to Joe’s untiring efforts and the many contributions to the Village of Farmingdale,” said Mayor Ralph Ekstrand. As you might expect, Joe was very involved in the local community – he was a member of the Sons of Italy in America, the Knights of Pythias, and served on the Executive Board of the Italian Americans in Government Service. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, and was a little league coach. “It takes a special person

to dedicate a lifetime of service to others. Joe did just that and it is very rare that you come across a person of character like him. I wish he could’ve been with us for a much longer time. We will all miss his honesty, counsel and courage. Joe dedicated his life to his country, his family and to his community. The Village took great pride in recognizing and honoring this very special man. On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Farmingdale I extend our deepest condolences to the Belisi family,” said Mayor Ralph Ekstrand.

We hope everyone is well and staying safe, and are happy to be moving ahead as the Long Island region progresses in Phase 3. Welcome back to Farmingdale Village! It is great to see more storefronts opening up and to see everyone again throughout the Village! The Village of Farmingdale welcomed back many merchants in Phase 2 and Phase 3, and we have been blessed with good weather recently which is appreciated for outdoor activities, dining and social distancing. Long Island is expected to enter Phase 4 on Wednesday, July 8th. Higher Education, LowRisk Outdoor / Indoor Arts & Entertainment, and Media Production are included in Phase 4, as of today, in the NY State Guidelines. Remembering Forever Daler: Joe Belisi One of our Daler Heroes; Joseph Vincent Belisi, of Farmingdale, a two-time Purple Heart recipient from the Vietnam War, retired Nassau County Police Sergeant, former Superior Officers Association VicePresident, and Nassau County Legislator for the 14th District, passed away at the age of 73, on June 16, 2020 from Parkinson’s Disease. Legislator Belisi was a great friend to the Village of Farmingdale and The Board of Trustees and I took great pride in declaring December 2nd, 2013 as “JOE BELISI DAY!” This award was a celebration and tribute to Joe’s untiring efforts and the many contributions to the Village of Farmingdale. As you might expect, Joe was very involved in the local community – he was a member of the Sons of Italy in America, the

Knights of Pythias, and served on the Executive Board of the Italian Americans in Government Service. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, and was a little league coach. The Village took great pride in recognizing and honoring this very special man. On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Farmingdale I extend our deepest condolences to the Belisi family.

The Economic Opportunity Council of Suffolk, Inc. (EOC of Suffolk) has received $1.7 million in federal funds to provide financial assistance to individuals and families facing economic hardships arising from COVID-19related disruptions. The funds are being made available to eligible Suffolk County residents

who have either lost their jobs, became temporarily unemployed, or faced financial difficulties because of the pandemic. The funds originate from the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act – commonly known as the CARES Act – which is providing $41 billion in funding to supplement the nationwide

Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) program. Signed into law on March 27, the relief program aims to address the consequences of increased unemployment and economic disruption resulting from the COVID-19 virus. “The Coronavirus pandemic has triggered the most damaging economic crisis America has faced

in some 80 years,” said Adrian Fassett, CEO of EOC of Suffolk. “During this difficult period, these federal funds will help our organization fulfill our mission of promoting the economic self-sufficiency of Suffolk County residents.” An applicant’s eligible expenses can include food, funeral costs, rental expenses, broker fees,

utility expenses, medical expenses, retraining expenses, clothing, bedding, toiletries, and other expenses. Household income cannot exceed 200 percent of poverty guidelines. The determination of financial eligibility for CARES assistance does not factor in an applicant’s supplemental

FASNY Offers Lifesaving BBQ And Grilling Tips As New Yorkers are beginning to emerge from “New York on Pause,” and looking towards nicer weather, many will be dusting off and firing up their grills for the first time in months. The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York urges all New Yorkers to follow some basic rules and tips to avoid accidents and injuries, and to remember not to

hesitate to call for help needed. “The warmer weather will certainly encourage New Yorkers to break out their BBQ’s for some outdoor cooking,” said FASNY President Steven Klein. “We want all residents to stay safe as we emerge from quarantine and heed some basic safety tips. We also remind everyone to continue to follow

social distancing rules to keep their families and other families safe for the coming months.” According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), from 2014-2018, an average of 19,700 patients per year went to emergency rooms because of injuries involving grills and gas grills were involved in an average of 8,900 home fires per year, including

3,900 structure fires and 4,900 outdoor fires annually. Keep everyone safe by following the important tips below. Tips from the NFPA and FASNY: Propane and charcoal BBQ grills should only be used outdoors. The grill should be placed well away from the home, deck railings and out from under eaves and overhanging branches.

Keep children and pets at least three feet away from the grill area. Keep your grill clean by removing grease or fat buildup from the grills and in trays below the grill.
