On 9/11/2001 the world changed with the terrorist attacks. My first thoughts were how do these people go on without getting to say goodbye to their loved ones. Then it happened to our family the following year. Our youngest daughter, Michelle was killed in a car accident at age 16. What was supposed to be a movie night with 3 other friends, turned tragic. So much has happened in 20 long years. I will always ask, “Why my Michelle” especially on July 2nd every year. She was loved by everyone…her family, friends, classmates, teachers, co-workers & all & missed out on her whole life ahead. Where would her life be now? We will never know. She would have turned 37 this October. We pray that she continue to watch over our family especially her sister & brother & nieces & nephews. I always wish my grandchildren could have met their Aunt Michelle. She will always be in our hearts. We love you forever, Michelle.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board recently announced a partnership with Empire State Ride Long Island to host a charity ride to raise funds to end cancer. The ride, which will take place on Saturday, July 23, features 3 different course lengths for riders of all ages and ability. All course routes begin at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park, in Oyster Bay. “I am so proud that the Town of Oyster Bay will play host to such an amazing event. Empire State Ride Long Island is poised to make a tremendous difference in the lives of those touched by cancer, and it will be directly due to the actions of our amazing residents who sign up for this fundraising ride,” said Supervisor Saladino. “With two wheels, our residents can change the world. I look forward to seeing everyone on event day, and I encourage any one of any age or riding ability to sign up for the event, as three course routes will be featured.” The Empire State Ride Long Island is a perfect, family-friendly summer event that features a ride through beautiful beaches, woodlands, and the historic destinations in and around the Town of Oyster Bay, all while helping cancer patients gain access to the newest clinical trials. This one-day bike ride event, held in partnership between the Town and Empire State Ride Long Island, will raise funds for clinical research and trials that will benefit cancer patients at Catholic Health on Long Island and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, the nation’s first cancer center in the United States dedicated exclusively to cancer research. “At Roswell Park, we believe that no one should have to choose between convenience and quality

when facing a decision about where they or a loved one should seek care for cancer,” says Roswell Park President and CEO Candace S. Johnson, PhD. “That’s why partnerships with health care facilities like Catholic Health and the funds raised through Empire State Ride Long Island are so critical to continue to provide the latest clinical trials and treatments to patients across New York State.” The event will feature 3 course lengths: a 10 mile route spanning the shoreline from Bayville to Centre Island (ideal for family and children), a 25 mile route featuring the scenic rolling hills from Bayville through Locust Valley, Glen Cove and Old Brookville (for more experienced riders) and a 62 mile route through Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, Roslyn Harbor, to Port Washington, and then all the way to Teddy Roosevelt’s home at Sagamore Hill (for advanced cyclists). By participating in Empire State Ride Long Island, bicyclists will have an opportunity to make a real impact on cancer research and patient care through clinical trials at these locations. In 2021, over $100,000 was raised by nearly 250 riders. Registration is now open for this fundraising event with a $25 fee for each participant. Riders will commit to a

Farmingdale United Methodist Church welcomes the Rev. Claire Hojung Wu, who succeeds the retiring Rev. Dr. Joseph Ewoodzie. Rev. Wu, who was born in Seoul, South Korea, comes to us from First Church Baldwin, United Methodist. She earned her B.A. in Accounting and Information Systems at Queens College and a Master of Divinity at Drew Theological School and has served as Chaplain Resident at North Shore

University Hospital. Rev. Wu and her husband, Philip, have two children, Bryan and Kristy, and she enjoys traveling, discovering new foods and greeting her neighbors on her morning walks. We wish Rev. Ewoodzie all of God’s blessings as he returns to Ghana, and, with Rev. Farmingdale Memorial Day Tribute The Farmingdale Community came together for a Parade and Ceremony on Memorial Day to Remember, Honor & Salute our Heroes, those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our Nation. It was a wonderful tribute with sunny skies, and hundreds marching, participating and attending. Several fighter jets flew over just as the parade was stepping off at Northside Elementary School. Assemblyman Durso To Hold Free Child ID Card Program New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso, in coordination with the Town of Oyster Bay, and the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office, will hold a FREE Child ID Card Program on Saturday, July 9th from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Marjorie Post Pool in Massapequa. The program is free and open to Nassau County residents. The ID cards will be produced on site and

available in minutes. No appointment is necessary. When a child goes missing, every moment is precious. Law enforcement needs accurate information and quickly. The Nassau County DA’s Operation Safe Child program provides parents with an identification card for their children containing pertinent physical information to give law enforcement

officials a head start on a missing child. Information on each card includes child’s name, birthdate, age, gender, hair and eye color, height and weight, fingerprints, and a high-resolution digital photo. Take Heart With Tea An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but a recent study found drinking tea might keep the cardiologist at bay.

The USDA reported that men and women who drank black tea for three weeks reduced their total and bad

cholesterol (LDL) levels by an average of 7.5 percent. Researchers concluded that drinking tea may reduce the

risk of coronary heart disease. Antioxidants called flavonoids, found in both green and black teas, are thought to

be potent weapons in the fight against heart disease. That news may be especially important

for women, given that heart disease kills more women than all forms of cancer combined including breast cancer.

Farmingdale Mayor Ralph Ekstrand Inducted Into Eagle Scout Hall Of Fame The Theodore Roosevelt Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America inducted Mayor Ralph Ekstrand into the Eagle Scout Hall of Fame at the Eagle Scout Hall of Fame Recognition Dinner on June 1, 2022 at Carlton on the Park in Eisenhower Park. The event was planned by Theodore Roosevelt Chapter of the Boy Scouts of America, in partnership with the Arthur R. Eldred Chapter of the National Eagle Scouts Association, and honored “National Outstanding Eagle Scout Awardees”, “Nassau County Eagle Scout Hall of Fame Inductees”, and celebrated several Anniversary Eagle Classes. Ekstrand was recognized as an Eagle Scout in 1970 and for the past decade has served as Assistant Cub Master and Cub Master of Pack 57, sponsored at St. Kilian’s Church. He also served as Unit Commissioner for

the Rough Rider District and for more then 10 years, has served on the Eagle Scout Board for the Rough Rider District. “Scouting builds character, leadership, teamwork and family values. Those involved in scouting help teach and build family values, its what we need for the generations to come. I am truly honored to be recognized with the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award; as one of the Nassau County Hall of Fame Inductees,” said Mayor Ekstrand. On behalf of the Farmingdale Board of Trustees, congratulations to Mayor Ralph Ekstrand on this prestigious honor, and to all honorees inducted, all Eagle Scouts and Scouts. Ekstrand is Supervising Pharmacist at Moby Drugs in Farmingdale Village. Ralph is currently serving his 10th year

as Mayor of the Village of Farmingdale. Under his tenure, Farmingdale Village has become a model for “Smart Growth” development. In implementing the Village’s Master Plan along with the Board of Trustees, over $200 million in new construction and economic activity has taken place as new apartments and businesses are established in the revitalized community. Mayor Ekstrand and the Board of Trustees are delighted that Farmingdale Village has become a downtown destination; home to more than 8,000 residents (Dalers) and hundreds of businesses/organizations.
