Take Heart With Tea An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but a recent study found drinking tea might keep the cardiologist at bay.
The USDA reported that men and women who drank black tea for three weeks reduced their total and bad
cholesterol (LDL) levels by an average of 7.5 percent. Researchers concluded that drinking tea may reduce the
risk of coronary heart disease. Antioxidants called flavonoids, found in both green and black teas, are thought to
be potent weapons in the fight against heart disease. That news may be especially important

Congratulations to the following students whose outstanding qualifications enabled them to receive monetary awards totaling over $4,000 from the Women’s Club of Farmingdale (WCF): Anna Nicolena Spadalik, Joshua Warshauer, Kevin Chen, Soo Kang, Francesca Amato, Annaliese Brellisoto and Carly Monteaguido. These awards were presented on June 5th at the Farmingdale High School Senior Awards Night by WCF members Anna Ievolo and Dolores Cianciabella. The WCF has been presenting these scholastic awards since
1913. At its June meeting, the WCF presented the GFWC-NYS Certificates of Achievement to the following members: NYSOrder of the Rose to Rosemary Emigholz and Anna Ievolo; NYS Honor Roll to Dru Brem; and a 25-year Pin to Valerie Thieke. A beautiful rose was presented by President Tina Diamond to club member Helen Norjen for her many years of civic involvement with Republic Airport issues on behalf of the Farmingdale community. All of these women have shown outstanding

Senior Awards qualities of leadership, initiative, dedication and commitment with all their endeavors. In addition, the WCF approved the Philanthropic Budget for 2016-2017. Over $5,000 will be disbursed to a variety of charities including: FSD Welfare Fund, Canine Companions, Women’s Cancer (Monday’s at Racine’s), Operation Smile and Shriner Children’s Hospital. Thanks to the club members, friends and the community for their support in helping to make all of the above possible.
GREEN DOGS CAR WASH - Several local legislators recently joined with members of the Farmingdale Baseball League’s Greendogs travel team for a car wash fund raiser at Ellsworth W. Allen Community Park. The proceeds from the car wash will help fund the team’s trip to participate in a Baseball Tournament at Cooperstown Dreams Park in Cooperstown, NY.
