New Baby Formula Collection Sites After an outpouring of support at the Town’s weekly Baby Formula Collection Drives, Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola announce the opening of daily formula collection sites in Massapequa and Oyster Bay. Residents are invited to drop off unexpired, unused baby formula at Town Hall North (54 Audrey Ave, Oyster Bay) and Town Hall South (977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa) through Friday, July 15th, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:00AM and 4:45PM. All donations will benefit families who are
experiencing difficulty in finding formula as the nationwide storage continues. Supervisor Saladino stated, “We’re proud to partner with local moms to collect unopened baby formula and safely distribute it to local families who can’t find these important products on the shelves at local stores. While the nationwide shortage has been dreadful for families of newborns, we’re very fortunate to have goodhearted community volunteers who stepped up to make a positive difference in the community.”

“The nationwide baby formula shortage is causing a crisis for many families throughout Long Island,” said Councilman Steve Labriola. “We all know that once little ones move onto food, families are often left with extra formula in their pantries. We ask that you open your hearts and cupboards by donating unexpired, unused formula for families facing shortages and empty store shelves.” At the start of the pandemic, Massapequa resident Carmela Shimansky launched a Facebook page ‘One Parent to Another,’ to help mothers in need of baby formula and other childcare necessities. Working with neighbors and friends in the community, Carmela connected with local moms who had items they no longer needed and asked them to pay it forward by

Each person they serve is assisted in maximizing their potential for selfcare, social, emotional and physical development. The organization’s dedicated team of administrators, direct support professionals and clinicians work together to provide a continuum of care. Services are provided in residences across Queens and Long Island that feel like home. The majority of individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities served by Little Flower participate in their Family Care program. Family Care providers provide an extended, supportive family to individuals who cannot live independently in the community by welcoming them into their homes and families. They support them as they become productive and active members of their community. All Family Care providers are certified by New York State and are supervised and monitored by Little Flower. Family Care providers are a dedicated group that does so much day in and day out by providing personal, social, emotional and physical care. They help these extraordinary individuals live full lives, whether by assisting with scheduling and attending doctor’s appointments, supporting them in seeking employment or helping them gain new experiences on family vacations or community activities.
On any given day, direct support professionals help empower IRA residents by supporting them as they overcome challenges to reach their best potential. While supporting their basic health and well-being, they assist the residents with rehabilitation, guide them in recreational and group activities such as fishing trips or vacations, and support them in their day-to-day goals and as active members of their community. Little Flower continues to discover extraordinary abilities within their residents, and while those individuals may face a more challenging future than most, the organization is confident that they can still enjoy a full and active life. They truly feel that what they need most is encouragement, understanding and the willingness of others to help them maximize their opportunities for becoming part of the community. S P E C TA C U L A R CHRYSANTHEMUMS! Learn about “Growing Exhibition Mums, the Queen of the Fall Flowers,” at a presentation by Rita Rover of the Long Island Chrysanthemum Society, on Thursday, June 30th at 7:30 pm at Farmingdale Village Hall, 361 Main Street. Specially bred chrysanthemums produce
amazing flowers. This step-by-step presentation provided by the Long Island Chrysanthemum Society will demonstrate how to grow the “Queen of the Fall” starting with cuttings that grow into a surprising variety of blooms up to 15 inches across. Rita Rover earned a bachelors and masters degrees in botany from Columbia University and has
taught in the departments of biology and horticulture at SUNY Farmingdale. Rita has been growing award winning chrysanthemums for over 30 years, is a member of the Long Island Chrysanthemum Society, and is an accredited judge for the National Chrysanthemum Society. The presentation is free to attend and rooted cuttings will be distributed to attendees.

Saladino Urges Residents To Prepare For Hurricane Season
With the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season beginning today, June 1st, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board urge all residents to update or develop their Family Emergency Plan, Emergency Go-Kit and Family & Friends Sheltering Plan. “Superstorm Sandy taught us that we are vulnerable to the Atlantic Ocean and susceptible to the powerful and destructive nature of hurricanes and storms,” said Supervisor Saladino. “It’s critical that residents be prepared for hurricane season and take all storm warnings seriously. Be prepared, not scared!” The Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June to November, with peak season from mid-August to late October. The National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)’s Climate Prediction Center is predicting above-average hurricane activity this year, and forecasting a likely range of 14 to 21 named storms (winds of 39 mph or higher), of which 6 to 10 could become hurricanes (winds of 74 mph or higher), including 3 to 6 major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5; with winds of 111 mph or higher). NOAA provides these ranges with a 70% confidence. An updated and accurate Family Emergency Plan is a key component to planning for Hurricane Season. The unique needs of family members, such as the elderly, infants, those with access and functional needs and any pets should be considered. Residents should inquire about what plans are in place at work and schools in case of emergency. After all of the information is collected, gather your family to discuss how the plan works. Practice your plan at least twice a year and update it according to any issues that arise. Residents are encouraged to join the Town of Oyster Bay’s SWIFT 911 Emergency Notification System, which is in place to reach residents quickly with information regarding upcoming weather events and any
other emergency situations. To sign up for notifications, visit www.oysterbaytown. com/SWIFT911. Residents should assembly an Emergency GoKit, keep it by their front door in a duffel bag and include enough supplies for everyone in the household for five days, including: First aid kit. Pack a “how to” guide as well. Essential prescription and nonprescription items and medical information. Battery-powered flashlight and radio (or crank radio), extra batteries and a 12-hour glow stick. A change of clothes, plus rainwear, sturdy shoes and protective gloves for everyone. Personal items, eyeglasses and personal care items. Important documents in a waterproof container: drivers’ licenses, wills, birth/marriage certificates, insurance policies, deed or lease papers, recent tax returns, credit card and bank account numbers, Social Security cards, Passport and home inventory list. Make sure you have special items for infants, elderly persons, pets or loved ones with special needs. Residents can also safeguard their pets by preparing a Pet Go-Kit, which should include: Your pets’ names, address and phone number. Your name, address,

phone and cell number. Emergency contact friend or family. Your veterinarian’s name and contact info. Important documents. Medical records. Medications with specific care instructions and behavioral problems. First Aid kit. Current photos. Sturdy leash, collar or harness, muzzles. Paper towels for clean-up. Food and bottled water (three-day supply). Manual can opener and bowls. Water purification tablets. Toys and other comfort items. Treats, brushes and combs. Newspapers and plastic bags. Residents should develop a Family & Friends Sheltering Plan in the event they are asked to evacuate their home. If you are advised to evacuate, here’s what to do: A Family & Friends Sheltering Plan is recommended for anyone who resides in south of Sunrise Highway or north of Route 25A. You should contact a friend or family member that lives outside the zone & make arrangements as this provides the most comfortable way to weather a severe storm. Bring your Emergency Go-Kit. Turn off all utilities. Take your most reliable vehicle and avoid taking multiple vehicles that create gridlock. Residents know all too well the threats posed by Hurricane Season.
