New Ground is a non-profit organization that helps to break the cycle of homelessness right here in Nassau and Suffolk counties. This organization began all from the vision of an educator that was committed to providing a safe haven for those living in poverty. This educator saw that shelters were only providing a short-term fix to a problem that needed a real, lasting solution. After envisioning an organization that provided a holistic suite of support services while empowering participants to help themselves, she founded New Ground in 1991 to do just that.

This organization is also in need of additional volunteers to help out in various areas. If you have a background in Education and wish to help tutor individuals out of their Levittown Main Office, the opportunity is available! You can also get involved with one of their Event Committees to help coordinate one of their upcoming special events, or with their Program Committee, which meets quarterly to review overall programs and services.

Since opening their doors, New Ground has seen over 80% of the families they have served “graduate” from their programs self sufficient and into permanent stable housing. New Ground empowers children, parents and Veterans to achieve their goals so that they can secure a brighter future for generations to come! Assemblyman Mike LiPetri (R-Massapequa) is honoring local Eagle Scout, Dom Baranello Jr., who inspired him to champion legislation which would create unique license plates denoting the owner of that vehicle is an Eagle Scout, similar to personalized plates for firefighters and doctors. Dom achieved the rank

of Eagle Scout on March 25, 2014, after spending seven years in the Scouts, but has remained active in civic affairs since that time – earning 50 merit badges and the William T. Assemblyman Mike LiPetri (R-Massapequa) proudly congratulated Xavier Latin Rivera on becoming an Eagle Scout on Sunday, June 2, 2019 following his efforts with West Babylon Troop 175. Xavier earned an impressive 94 merit badges, well exceeding the required 21 needed to become an Eagle Scout. “I am honored to recognize Xavier Rivera on earning the rank of Eagle Scout and even more impressed to learn he exceeded the required Farmingdale, NY – For the fifth consecutive year, Supervisor Ed Romaine and the Town of Brookhaven Fire Marshal’s office has partnered with SUNY Farmingdale’s Architecture and C o n s t r u c t i o n Management students to assist in the completion of their Service Learning Existing Condition Drawings Project. The Town-owned buildings that were included in the project were the Sandspit Ferry Terminal, Marina Tower and Shed in Patchogue; Carmans River Canoe and Kayak II in Brookhaven and the Moriches Bay Recreation Center in Center

Moriches. Each building was visited, sketched, measured, photographed and drawn using AutoCad Architecture and/or Revit computer drafting programs. The computer drawings are provided to the Town for future fire safety applications. Since 2009, when it was established, the Service Learning project has been completed by 290 students for 84 buildings in eight different communities. That includes all the phone calls, meetings with school officials, Eagle advisor, troop committee presentation as well as any hours worked on the planning and coordinating.”
