While speaking with Robyn, she shared a great story about a routine visit with her dental hygienist, Sue. Sue was explaining how arthritis was really becoming a problem in her hands. After a short discussion with Sue, Robyn challenged her to cut out all dairy for a month. After only a few days Sue called Robyn to share she was already having less pain and was now fully committed to making it through the dairy-free month. Through the month Sue made a few appointments with Robyn and made a few other small changes to her diet. Not long after that first month Sue’s arthritic pains were gone, she lost 30 pounds, reduced her bad cholesterol and her blood pressure normalized. All welcomed benefits but completely unexpected by Sue, although Robyn

certainly knew. As Sue felt more fit and energetic, Robyn encouraged her to start running. Robyn is part of a running team called Elite Feats and is known as an “Ultra Runner”. This is someone who runs more than 26.2 miles at once! Robyn and Sue have since become friends and Sue is now a member of the team. These great results do not stop with Sue as she now inspires others to make similar small changes in their diet to improve their own health. Robyn encourages those struggling with type II Diabetes, high cholesterol and/or high blood pressure to simply come to a class. She is confident that she can help you implement some changes in your diet and you can regain control of all of these, in many cases eliminating the need for the medicines we have

all grown accustomed to. She spoke specifically of another client who, after taking a free class with her became focused on getting off insulin for his Diabetes. He made significant changes and only 5 weeks later he was off all medication and his cholesterol and BP improved significantly as well. Now his wife attends. Robyn can also help with other common issues such as Crohn’s disease and food allergies. Although she states that you may not cure the issue, you can absolutely control it and maintain a state of remission. Robyn is also available for speaking engagements on nutrition and cooking. She can speak on these topics in general or can get very specific depending on the intended audience. Robyn lives a healthy and active lifestyle fueled by good nutrition.

Recently she ran a 70K run, which is 43 miles! She is now planning to participate in the run around Lake Ronkonkoma on June 22, which raises funds in honor of Navy Seal Lt. Michael Murphy. As if that wasn’t enough, she is going to start the run by running to it….a 50 mile run overnight from NYC to Ronkonkoma to then run four more miles around the lake. New Ground is a non-profit organization that helps to break the cycle of homelessness right here in Nassau and Suffolk counties. This organization began all from the vision of an educator that was committed to providing a safe haven for those living in poverty. This educator saw that shelters were only providing a short-term fix to a problem that needed a real, lasting solution. After envisioning an organization that provided a holistic suite of support services while empowering participants to help themselves, she founded New Ground in 1991 to do just that.

A primary social worker is assigned to all families in both of these programs once they start with the organization. New Ground social

workers provide guidance, resources and assistance to the families in various areas. The New Ground Veterans Program is another very important part to their organization. Homeless Veterans can get placed in reduced cost housing and be provided with intensive social work and education services by New Ground to assist them with achieving goals in the areas of employment, financial literacy, education, career development, parenting, basic life skills, education advocacy and more. In 2016 their services were expanded so they can serve an even greater number of Veteran households. Through collaboration with the Northport VA Center, New Ground began offering their programs to over 400 homeless Veteran households in their Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing Program. Since opening their doors, New Ground has seen over 80% of the families they have served “graduate” from their programs self sufficient and into permanent stable housing. New Ground empowers children, parents and Veterans to achieve their goals so that they can secure a brighter future for generations to come! New Ground is a huge help to the homeless community on Long Island and is there for those in need. Howitt Middle School Art Show Farmingdale School District held its annual District Art Show on May 14, 2019 at Weldon E. Howitt Middle School. Open to the public, it featured artwork from all six schools in a variety of mediums, including: oil, sculpture, mixed media, drawing, watercolor, fashion, and photography. The show has become a very popular event and is attended by hundreds of students, parents, and residents. As in prior years, the evening was

split into two sessions to give everyone the time and space they needed to fully admire all the fabulous pieces of art. “This was an outstanding event, displaying diverse and exquisite art work from across the district!” said Director of Fine Arts Rose Marvel. Congratulations to the fabulous art staff and children in the district who continue to strive to be the best!” The purpose of the show

is to recognize and honor students with talent in the arts. Each school receives a finite amount of display space, and each piece is carefully and considerately chosen by art teachers. It’s a wonderful opportunity for parents to see the evolution of their children’s artistry from the elementary to the high school level. Planting Trees Massapequa, NY – Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola today announced that the Town, in partnership with local boy scout Troops 601 (Massapequa) and 261(Farmingdale), recently planted 60 trees at Anchor Park in Massapequa to help support wildlife and improve water quality for residents. The Saladino administration was awarded these trees through a grant from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. Supervisor Saladino stated, “These new trees will help stop pollutantcarrying storm water

runoff from going directly into the Seaford Creek during severe storms. I thank the Boy Scouts and volunteers who joined us in planting these new trees in Anchor Park.” Anchor Park is located adjacent to Seaford Creek, which is susceptible to storm water runoff during significant weather events. The new trees will help reduce the effects of potential flooding and serve as buffers against pollutants and sediments. Other benefits of the tree planting include providing a habitat of food and protection for birds and other animals, as well as providing shade, comfort, and improved aesthetics for

park visitors. No existing trees will be damaged or removed as part of the new tree planting initiative. “We are committed to enhancing the quality of life in our communities and that includes environmental initiatives such as this. Trees contribute to our environment by providing oxygen, improving air quality, climate amelioration, preserving soil, and supporting wildlife,” said Councilman Labriola. “We thank all the Scouts who volunteered their time to improving our community through this tree planting initiative.” In the past 12 months, the Town has planted more

than 200 trees at various Town facilities, including

local Town parks and traffic islands throughout
