Now, with the proper safety protocols in place, we’re happy to offer this swim program and the chance for young people to exercise while improving their strength, endurance, flexibility, balance and more!” Program fees (checks

or money orders only) are $35 per swimmer for season pass holders, and a $10 discount is offered for each additional swimmer in the same family. For residents without a season pass, the program fee is $50 per swimmer. A $15 discount is offered for each additional swimmer in families without a season pass. Proof of residency/age required when registering, with TOB residents given first preference. It is a quiet, shaded area with flowers, beautiful greenery and a peaceful waterfall to remember people who have passed on. The Education Garden: The Education Garden area grows many heirloom varieties, has a small compost area and hosts educational events for small groups. The Greenhouse: The Greenhouse allows this farm to extend their season during the colder months. The Community Garden: The Community Garden hosts Brookhaven Community garden plots. The Garden of Ephraim: The Garden of Ephraim is a wheelchair accessible garden, which consists of a beautiful paved area with raised beds! There is also street access directly into The Garden of Ephraim. Food Pantry Donation Area: This area of the farm consists of several acres of farm land and is the main growing area. The selfless efforts of all the volunteers that work hard to keep this farm afloat is truly a blessing. They don’t get paid a dime, but they love what they do. To me, this farm shines bright as a symbol of hope and resilience. However, it needs some more help itself. Bethel Hobbs Community Farm is a nonprofit organization with a rich history. You may know and love their farm, or you may never believe there is an 11-acre farm in Centereach that has been feeding Long Islanders for decades! The James Hobbs family came to Long Island from Georgia in 1906 and grew farm produce in New Village (North Centereach) for local Long Islanders for 3 generations, first as farm workers and later purchasing the land, which became known as Hobbs Farm. James’ son, Alfred Hobbs took ownership in 1955 and farmed his own property, as well as rental farmland in the surrounding area for many years. He passed up many opportunities to sell the property, hoping that it would always remain a farm. Thankfully, it does remain a farm to this day. Hobbs Farm is the last farm in Centereach, as well as the last AfricanAmerican family farm on Long Island. When Mr. Hobbs passed away in 1996, he left the farm property to the Bethel AME Church in Setauket, where he was a member. The farm was renamed Bethel Hobbs Community Farm. However, the church struggled with local community organizations that were threatening to buyout the land for other means. In 2007, “Friends of Hobbs Farm” was formed, which led to the restoration process of the farm. Today, the church still owns the farm, a non-profit organization that is entirely operated by volunteers. The farm is 11 acres and it grows and harvests an average of over 30,000 pounds of fresh, organic produce, which then gets donated to several local food pantries and soup kitchens on the island. They also offer CSA Memberships, which allows locals to receive a weekly share of nutritionally dense produce grown on their farm right in Centereach. The produced is packed the same day as they go out for delivery, and recipiants can rest knowing exactly where they were grown. Additionally, the farm offers educational programs, community events and they have a seasonal farm stand. With a strong faith-based history and being that it is still owned by a local church, you will notice a strong Christian presence as soon as you walk onto their land. Faith based signs, a large wooden cross and a welcoming peaceful environment truly

Town Honors 850 Frontline Healthcare Heroes During Hospital Week Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Tom Hand honored healthcare heroes at a special ceremony at Catholic Health’s St. Joseph Hospital in recognition of Hospital Week. With more than 2 million confirmed cases in New York over the past year, the Town has continued to take opportunities to recognize those fighting on the frontlines of the pandemic. “The Town Board and I think it is incredibly important to continue to spotlight our Healthcare Heroes and all they do to keep us safe,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Words cannot adequately express the sense of pride we have in the astounding dedication and professionalism our healthcare heroes continue

to display throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. To commemorate the key role they continue to play throughout this pandemic, we are so proud to present these Healthcare Heroes with a Town of Oyster Bay TOB Strong Frontline Hero Pin to wear as a keepsake and a reminder of all the amazing things they’ve done during one of the most trying times in our Town’s history!” With May 9th through 15th marking National Hospital Week, Town officials saw it a fitting opportunity to highlight health systems and health care workers and the innovative ways they are supporting the needs of their community members, especially during the pandemic. “We are forever indebted to our healthcare

Every April, Autism Speaks celebrates World Autism Month, beginning with United Nationssanctioned World Autism Awareness Day on April 2. Throughout the month, the focus is on sharing stories and providing opportunities to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism, fostering worldwide support. “Autism Awareness Month has always had a special place in my heart,” said Special Education teacher Nancy Pavlic. “Promoting awareness and acceptance was, and still is, an important part of my career.” Pavlic, along with fellow special education teacher Ivelysse Powers, with the support of Farmingdale High School staff and students, promoted Autism Awareness and Acceptance throughout April. Their goal is to spread awareness and educate others about Autism. “Dalers We All Fit Together” was selected as the theme for this year’s t-shirt to represent how, as Dalers, we all foster a spirit of acceptance and community. “Making a difference in my student’s lives every day is what keeps me doing what I love to do, and showing others that students with autism can do so much, and more, just like anyone else,” said Special Education teacher Nancy Pavlic. “I do not see their disability; I see their amazing personalities and all of the wonderful things they are capable of accomplishing

for themselves.” Through t-shirt sales, Nancy and Ivelysse raised $619.29, all of which was donated to the Nassau Suffolk Autism Society of America (NSASA). Suzanne Reek, the executive director of NSASA, visited Farmingdale High School last Friday to receive the donation. She thanked Pavlic, Powers, their students, Farmingdale High School Principal, Dr. Sam Thompson, and Farmingdale’s Special Education Chairperson, Brian Norton, for their support and posed for a picture. “The selflessness demonstrated in our school community is a joy to be a part of,” said Farmingdale High School Principal Dr. Samuel Thompson. “We were following the lead to support a worthy cause, and Ms. Pavlich and Ms. Powers led the way.” NSASA is a parent-run organization serving over 4,000 families on Long Island. The organization’s mission is to support individuals with autism in our local community. NSASA provides free educational, social, and recreational opportunities to families touched by autism through their fundraising efforts. NSASA also offers grants to local school programs that serve children with autism.
