Farmingdale High School Thespians Receive Top Honors in Monologue Competition than 75 seconds and had to ﬁt the theme of the competition, “Wonder.” Within the two minutes allotted, performers were evaluated on appropriateness of material to the theme, dramatic effectiveness, including strong choices, clarity of expression, oral and nonverbal, and thoroughness of preparation/introduction and execution of the material. “I selected these six students to represent Farmingdale in the 2021 Monologue Competition based on their effort, intention, and ability to connect with their respective pieces,” said theater teacher Glen Beck. “ I couldn’t be more proud of the work they did.” The students selected to represent Farmingdale High School in the Monologue Competition were: Rebecca Kenjesky,

Audrey Anderson, and Luke Pichichero. Top honors were awarded to Aidan Kelly, who ﬁnished 2nd place in the upperclassmen category, reciting a monologue from “Dog Sees God.” Emma Graziadei took 3rd place in the same category with her monologue from “The Social Network.” Freshman Nova Bulin ﬁnished 2nd place in the underclassmen category with a performance from the comedic play “The Solve-It Squad.” The Monologue Competition is sponsored by the Department of Theater and Dance at Nassau Community College. The Department of Theater and Dance provides enriched curricula for students enrolled in its discrete Associate in Arts degree programs: Acting, Dance, and Technical Theater.

Registration Open for GAP Summer Program Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino today announced that the Town’s Group Activities Program (GAP) will run a Summer Program from July 6th through August 13th at Marjorie Post Community Park in Massapequa and SyossetWoodbury Community Park. The summer day camp program will run daily from 10am to 3pm, and will be open to developmentally disabled children and young adults

ages 5-21. “Our TOB GAP Summer Day Camp is one of the ﬁnest programs of its kind in the country and our activities specialists take great pride in fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere at the day camp,” Supervisor Saladino said. “The focus of the GAP program is group interaction, and as part of the summer camp, participants will be able to take part in such as activities as swimming, arts

This April, six students from Glen Beck’s theater class at Farmingdale High School entered a virtual monologue competition sponsored by Nassau Community College. The performers competed against other high schools with solid theater programs such as Long Island High School of the Arts, Holy Trinity, and Lynbrook. Farmingdale had the most wins of any other school, and three Dalers took home top honors. This year’s Monologue Competition, organized by Nassau Community College’s Theater and Dance Department, took place on April 17 in a virtual format. High school students were divided into two groups, Underclassmen (9,10) and Upperclassmen (11,12). Performers’ monologues could be no shorter than 45 seconds and no longer

Their mission is founded in the spirit of St. Louis de Montfort, who had a commitment to the poor and the courage to do what no one else had the courage to do. They depend on the generosity of private contributions, fundraising events and corporate donations. Hope House Ministries services people in both Nassau County and Suffolk County, offering services free of charge. Together, their staff and volunteers have created an empowering sense of family and community that are the change agents, helping young people grow in self-discipline, critical thinking, problem solving skills and personal responsibility. Hope House Ministries was founded by Fr. Francis Pizzarelli, SMM, LCSW-R, ACSW, DCSW. 41 years ago, Fr. Francis discovered hundreds of youth who were homeless, experiencing mental health issues and living with addictions and it wasn’t long before he realized that neither government nor faith communities were doing enough to meet the crisis of homelessness. He formed Hope House Ministries and it has grown into an amazing organization that has provided for the needs of over 500,000 individuals. Hope House Ministries offers

many programs, such as their Community House, Hope Academy, Montfort Therapeutic Residence, Pax Christi Hospitality Center, St. Maximillian Kolbe Outpatient Addictions Treatment Center, Wisdom House and much more.
