The Long Island Special Olympics Spring games will take place Saturday, May 21, 2022, at Farmingdale Schools. Participants will be competing in track & field, swimming, powerlifting, and tennis. The Farmingdale School district needs volunteers to put on this exciting community event. It’s especially important this year because this is the first time the games have been held since 2019. “I can’t tell you how exciting it is for our Special Olympics athletes to have Spring Games back on the calendar,” said Stacey Hengsterman, Special Olympics New York president and CEO. “Now, all we need are fans in the stands to cheer
them on! Thank you to the entire Farmingdale School District community for making this signature competition and celebration of inclusion possible.” Everyone is welcome to volunteer. Kids under 14 can volunteer if accompanied by a parent, guardian, or chaperone. Children seven years and younger are encouraged to be “Fans in the Stands.” “We need tremendous community support to help this fantastic event run smoothly,” said Farmingdale Superintendent Paul Defendini. “Volunteers can sign up to escort athletes, retrieve balls, organize heats, and help with awards ceremonies.”

Town Launches New ‘Art In The Park’ Initiative Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Michele Johnson invites local artists to participate in the Town’s new ‘Art in the Park’ program, which invites artists and artisans to display and sell their hand-crafted goods. Applications are now available for the event which will be held
on Saturday, May 21st at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park & Beach in Oyster Bay. “We are calling on all local artists and artisans to fill out an application today to take part in this great opportunity to showcase their items,” said Councilwoman Johnson. “The free event
on May 21st will also feature live music, food trucks and activities for kids, making it a fun day for the whole family.” Participants must be 18 or older, and display and sell only their original pieces. No commercial or mass-produced items are permitted. Artists must supply their own 10x10
canopy and additional items required for their space. Additional details and associated costs are provided on the application, available on the Town’s website. Art in the Park is run by the Town’s Department of Community & Youth Services, Cultural and Performing Arts Division.
