apply. It is recommended that volunteers eat well (low fat) and drink fluids in the days before the Blood Drive. The Councilwoman noted that all blood types are needed, especially O positive and O negative. Refreshments will be provided for all who donate. In addition, each time someone makes a donation, they earn advantage points redeemable for a wide variety of gifts, gift cards, or other merchandise. Also, McDonalds will be offering a coupon to all donor registrants offering a free large sandwich or salad when you make any type of purchase at McDonalds. The Farmingdale School District presented its fiscal management strategy for the 2017-2018 school year during the Board of Education’s third special meeting/budget workshop on March 29th. The fiscal management strategy involves a review of the District’s fund balance & reserves analysis and budget projections for the upcoming school year. During the meeting, Farmingdale School District Assistant Superintendent for Business Paul Defendini outlined key fiscally responsible strategic moves the District is taking to ensure its continued financial health. “The key to the Farmingdale School District’s continued success is maintaining our fiscal viability, and structuring the budget to create maximum stability and mitigate against volatility,” said John Lorentz, Superintendent of Schools of the Farmingdale School District. “Our mission is to provide an outstanding, uninterrupted education for every child in the District, which is why our prudent and strategic financial planning is of vital importance.” The Farmingdale School District’s proposed budget for the 2017-2018 school

Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer recently joined with Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature DuWayne Gregory for a street-renaming ceremony in honor of Ravi and Brandon Maharaj. On June 13th, 2015, Ravi Maharaj and his son Brandon were tragically killed in a car accident in Farmingdale. Ravi and his wife Amanda, along with their two children Brandon and Crystal, were one of the first families to
buy a home in the new Oaks development on Dr. Reed Blvd. in North Amityville. Ravi was also a founding member of the Oaks Civic Association, which has been a vital part of this community’s success since its inception in 2013. “They were the perfect neighbors, and the Oaks community as a whole suffered an inconsolable loss,” said Rodney McRae, President of the Oaks Civic Association. Joining Supervisor Schaffer and Presiding
Officer Gregory were dozens of friends, family, and neighbors of the Maharaj family, including Ravi’s MTA coworkers and Brandon’s teachers from the Copiague School District. The Babylon Town Board recently passed a resolution authorizing the ceremonious renaming of Dr. Reed Boulevard between Fowler Lane and Albany Avenue to “Ravi & Brandon Memorial Way.”
